What a line up of great American Composers. John Musto is personally my favorite New American Composer. "Recuerdo" is an excellent example of his amazing music. His music has so many different influences (Blues, Jazz, Ragtime, and Classical) all blended together to make one rich sound, William Sharp sings them with such sensitivity and grace. Paul Bowles' "Blue Mountian Ballads" are a perfect example of his great choice of text (Tennesse Williams)and his perfect setting of deep southern Music that the text requires. I just get so excited when I hear an album like this, celebrating the American Art Song and it's great and promising future with Young Composers like John Musto and Eric Klein. William Sharp and Stephen Blier are a dynamic duo and pick great repertoire that shows this off exsquisitely.

Virgil Thompson's compositions are a refreshing slice of pure amaricana. His works are uplifting, captureing the american soul in much the same way Aron Copland did. Paul Bowles (author of ' The Sheltering Sky')is also featured. He actually studied under Virgil Thompson and their light, airy music compliments each other well, each painting a familiar pastoral lanscape. One can almost feel a cool breeze on a vibrant spring day. The melodies glide like butterflys, conjuring up the smells of flowers or the light-blue of a summer sky. Though not a work of genious, Thompson and Bowles nevertheless manage to create some magical, unforgettable sounds.

Zoe Mace is gifted not only with a beautiful voice and the ability to use it, but also with a beautiful heart: she donates her proceeds to charity!!! I can't figure out which is more obvious, her sweet, perfect vocals or her generosity! (And for anyone who may have doubts: the fact that this is for charity does not take a thing away from the absolute beauty of the music!!!)

All this and she hasn't even reached her teenage years yet!

There is a variety of musical styles here, from showtunes to jazz. My personal favorites here are "Over the Rainbow" and "The Wonder of You."

And after the last song, there is a bittersweet hidden track of the two adorable sisters singing together.

If this CD doesn't lift your spirits, then you have a heart of stone.

Zoe, never stop singing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The world is waiting for you.

This is an album that I highly recommend everyone getting, not only because of Zoe's sweet voice, but also because proceeds go to supporting the Down's Syndrome Association, which personally touches me as I have a cousin with Down's Syndrome. Zoe's soprano has amazing maturity. Indeed, she sounds like a grown up singing those romantic songs! The English, childlike quality of her voice is very inticing. My favoite on this album would probably have to be "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square", the classic English jazz song. Zoe's music features a great variety with jazz, folk, musical, classical, and opera workings. There's a secret track at the end of the album featuring Zoe singing with her sister Jodie not long before Jodie passed away. It really brings tears to the heart! If you enjoy Charlotte Church and Hayley Westenra, Zoe Mace will capture your heart as well!

How many 10 year olds do you know who could record an album as a tribute to thier 4 year sister just weeks after her untimely death and make it sound as amazing as this!!!

Zoe is not only a extremley talented singer, but an unbelievable little person. She is mature beyond her years and puts many of us adults to shame!

5 stars more like 100 stars Zoe and you are one great big STAR!!

What a talent! You have to hear it to believe it!

This is the first album I have purchased that every track is fantastic, I can't stop playing it, totally addictive!!!

It makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when she hits the high notes, perfect pitch, unbelievable!!

My best buy this year, I can't recommend it enough, don't deny yourself any longer, buy a copy now!!

Only now do I know the full story behind this album, after reading the insert leaflet. Zoe is a very brave child who was obviously devoted to her sister Jodie.

Her voice is stunning, pure with perfect pitch and amazing diction, yet there is something both beautiful and sad in the loneliness of the child's voice. It is a gift to create beauty from such sadness;

The track "Little Ray of Light" is so beauitful it reduced me to tears, I believe from the stories in the press this was written for Jodie and sung at her furneral.

Zoe has a long term career ahead of her, it's mind blowing to think how she will sing in 5 years from now!

Well I for one will be following her every move and buying all of her albums.

The Reveiw from Amazon is incorrect, Zoe's first album raised money for The Oxford Children's Hospital This album is raising money for The Downs Syndrome Association!!!

In SONGS FROM THE PAGE OF SWORDS, Daniel Asia's music is traced from its evolutionary roots to its accomplished maturity. Offering a brief glance into his compositional diversity, it fills the ears with fluid vocal lines, pointillism, and extended tonality. His music reaches beyond the banal and into the inventive realm of the unpredictable. Infusing the traditional elements of classical composition with subtle influences from American popular music and jazz, Asia's early musical expressionism unveils the interaction between the interior world of humans and the physical exterior they live in.

The recording rests upon on the spectacular performance of New York City based chamber ensemble Musical Elements. Included are the "Sacred Songs," a work that incorporates sparse, playful exchanges between the soloist and instrumentalists, conveying a sense of tranquil beauty and wonderment. The heavier compositional style, which Asia used in the early 1980's, is represented in the darker "Songs from the Page of Swords". "Pines Songs," based on Paul Pines' poetry, is an exploration of post-serial impressionism, defined by angular rhythmical influences and graceful cadenzas. Top-notch performances by soprano Carmen Pelton, bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk, and oboist Sara Watkins make for an excellent recording.

I was at the Eternal Feminine recital at the Ravinia Festival in August 2000. This was a wonderful recital - also a world premiere - the CD is just as wonderful. There is a nice mix of style in the programming of songs. Suzanne Mentzer's interpretations reflect a complete understanding of each piece. Her tone is warm, strong, and beautiful. I highly recommmend this CD as an example of an exceptional classicly trained singer and also as an example of women composers, several of whom are not well know but are deserving of our attention.

This collection of song cycles is simply beautiful. Collected from Finno-Ugric peoples around the Baltic sea area, near Tormis' homeland of Estonia, the songs range from complex arrangements to snippets. Most of the peoples represented on the disk (the Livonians, Karelians, Ingrians, etc.) are dying out, and their languages are almost dead as well. Tormis' beautiful choral arrangements awaken the need to preserve these cultures, and are especially meaningful to anyone with Finno-Ugric heritage. Get the 2-CD set if possible -- it's definitely worth it.
