Wonderful music. Takes me back to the sixties...too bad Ferrante & Teicher are not still performing. I saw them perform twice and both times was a "standing ovation" performance.

"Ferrante & Teicher's All Time Greatest Hits" presents a pleasant set of familiar show tunes for listening pleasure. The paired pianos of Ferrante & Teicher are supplemented by instrumental accompaniment. Bouncy enough to attract your attention but subdued enough to serve as background music, this disc provides a most entertaining collection of hits from this talented duet.

A long time ago I had the opportunity of being in the audience of a "F & T" concert at the "old" University of Wisconsin Madison Union Theatre. The accoustics were not the best and the pianos had to be retuned before the performance began yet everything about the night was grand for the audience. I purchased the double LP of this collection (or one similar) and I played it so often that it wore out. I thought that I would never find the CD. And on impulse I researched amazon.com -- and HERE IT IS. I have waited a long time to listen to these great movie themes once again...indeed the simplicity of songs like "The Apartment" and "Exodus" and "Days of Wine and Roses" just are not found anymore. These are more than romantic background music or dinner music. Listen to the tones and melodies which are carefully woven into a larger themes. Everyone of these songs can be identified (if you are old enough) with a certain place and certain time (a date, a concert, movies you talked about over and over again, a slice of time never repeated). For those of you who are younger but love the sound of piano and of the movies, try listening to these themes. No blasting jarring big acoustics here to distroy the ambience. Yes they don't write or play them like this anymore.

Many of the songs on this CD have been nicely arranged and are pleasant to listen to. I found that F & T favored hard playing rather than soft melodious music. Track #19 was all screwed up and does not play but just bounces around.

I'm a big fan of two-piano music. And when I saw the reviews of this cd, especially the negative ones, I decided I had to get it and hear it for myself.

I like it.

I think it contains a great selection of Arthur Ferrante and Louis Teicher's hits. But I agree with the reviewers who warned that these are not the original versions! These are two-piano versions recorded in 1983. On their Baldwin SD-10 Concert Grand Pianos. If you wanted the versions with orchestra, you will be disappointed.

Of course, something has to be said about their "prepared piano recordings." Yes, mutes to make notes sound more like they were played on some other percussion instrument, such as a drum. We hear this on the somewhat unusual "African Echoes." And we even hear a little of it when they mute the G in Ravel's Bolero.

We get to hear some show and movie themes that Ferrante and Teicher were famous for performing: West Side Story Overture, Theme from Love Story, Chariots of Fire, Theme from the Apartment, Exodus, and Memory (from Cats).

I have mixed feelings about the version of Leucona's Malaguena. It is fast and whimsical, and it may come as a bit of a surprise. But I like the way they handle the Borodin themes (mostly from the Prince Igor Polovtsian Dances), also used in Kismet.

Is this the way music is supposed to be played? Well, it is the way Ferrante and Teicher perform it. And it really is up to us to decide if we enjoy it or not.

In my view can only be described as rubbish. For those of us who are F & T fans from old this almost destroys those fond memories of past glories. The arrangements at best could only be described as funerial. There is absolutely no life. It in no way reflects their wonderful talent.

When I saw the line about a Ferrante and Teicher concert really being an event back when they didnt use a full orchestra, I had to tell you what happened to me many moons ago. F & T were part of the Miami University of Ohio concert series(This was long before Millett Hall opened, and all the big events were held at the much smaller Withrow Court. My grandfather ,who knew I was a fan decided that we could get our tickets at the door and didnt have to leave early,could grab a bite to eat on the way and get there in plenty of time.(Long before ticketmaster ,and I was not yet a graduate of Miami). Well suffice it to say, we got to the steps of Withrow and were told that they couldnt sell any more tickets! I dont think I spoke to him for a week! Am eagerly awaiting this CD, and any others that come around.
I really miss their magical performances.

    Mancini was all about fun. This album captures his most whimsical contributions.

    He also compsoed some of the most haunting and romantic songs we ever got too. However, the emphasis here is on comedy and fun, and it's most, most welcome.

    Enjoy and laugh! Appeals to children of all ages, as they say.

    If you like melodic, fun, romantic, and jazzy lounge music then you'll love this! I've had this on tape for about 15 yrs now and its always remained one of my very favorites. Its great for a date night too if your in the mood for romance. Every single song is a gem, there are no fillers. I highly recommend this cd, especially if you like good lounge music.

    Once you have skipped the all too beaten tracks of "The Pink Panther Theme", you're in for an exciting trip to Cocktalia. There are enough smoothy-loungey tunes in there to fill in at least 10 Hotel Costes compilations up to the brim. This is Henry Mancini at his best (oh, by the way, where is "Lujon" ?). Lush orchestrations, smooth vocals and all, this is pure (easy)listening pleasure. Had it been possible, I would have granted this record 10 stars+ !!!

    This is a must for jazz fans. The ever popular 'Pink Panther Theme' is of course included. Also the non-jazz 'Moon River' which is a classis in itself. For some reason, this is a 'surround sound' recording (how that could be when it was recorded years ago I have no idea). The 'surround' effect is not that great but it doesn't distract from a favourite recording.

    This CD reminds me of simpler times. Of movies made in Panavision. Bright colors and good story lines. beautiful countrysides. And sexy leading men who had class and drank martinis. I'd always had a great reverance for Mancini growing up and now I know why. His music makes me feel good. Simple as that. No big political statements, no loud ugly words or ugly beats. Just uplifting, romantic (yes, Baby Elephant Walk can be romantic) fun music. Thank you Henry.

      For those who are fans of Galway or Mancini, (or even those who are not) this is a fun, upbeat CD that will bring back a lot of movie memories. This combination of the talents of this pair make for a great listening experience. I have had this work in my music library for a long time, and am grateful that it is still available since my ex and I both wanted custody of it!

      Galaway has awesome talent! This album isn't just for the classical type. It has a lot of fun, up-beat familiar tunes that everyone will enjoy. It's definetly one of Galaway's best. If you don't have it, go buy it now!

      I heard a sample of this CD on Amazon and liked what I heard. I bought the CD and I must tell you---this artist plays a beautiful piano. I was a student of the piano myself years ago, and he plays with so much feeling. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. You won't be disappointed if you like to listen to beautiful, romantic piano solos.

      This is not a band elevator lounge album, in fact walk into any fancy department store and your likely to be hearing one of these dime a dozen painists playing next to the escolator! He's kind of like Liberace in his playing. Good elevator music!

      This has to be one of the best Piano CDs around, and I expected to see a 5 star average rating given. Instead, it is awarded only 4 stars. I suspected it was due to some 'spoilers' who didn't know how to appreciate this type of music.

      Imagine sitting in a 5 star hotel lounge, relaxing and listening to the pianist playing such wonderful music on the grand piano. Now, that's what this CD is about. If you like this kind of music, you'll find none finer than Jim Bajor's 'Somewhere in Time'.

      My favorite track is "Someone To Watch over Me"....but I truly LOVE the easy and relaxing way Jim Bajor plays every song on this CD. In the hurry-up multi-tasking way we live today - it is so nice to be able to just unwind and calm down by listening to such beautiful music. The CD has such clarity you feel as if you are sitting right there 'in person' watching and listening.

      Wow, I can not say enough good things about this cd! Every song is highly enjoyable, great interpretations of jazz classics, and very soothing and relaxing. My favorite song from it is "Since I Fell For You." "Somewhere in Time" is a great track as well. Perfect music for a candlelit dinner or just to mellow out. Anyone who thinks this is elevator music needs to be more open-minded. If you are a fan of beautiful piano music you will thoroughly enjoy this cd.

      As some of you know, I am a Ferrante and Teicher fan from way back. When I read their dedication on this disc, I was really impressed. I dont know which one is officially retired, but the fact that he came out of retirement to help put this disc together was great... and the disc is A-1! During the Bicentennial year(1976) I had a vinyl disc, Spirit of 176, which
      much of the music from this disc is from. Some of the musical effects are quite interesting, and my mother really loves the disc. I am so pleased that they released it. A real keeper!
