Brilliant! As if Stewart has known this music all his life........1999-10-27

A very ingenious coupling. Rachmaninov dedicated this concerto to Medtner and Medtner dedicated this sonata to Rachmaninov. Mr. Stewart seems to have studied the music in great depth. What has resulted are two brilliant performances with very good sound. The Medtner sonata is a studio recording and the Rachmaninov a live performance in Moscow, also surprisingly a very sonically fine recording. Hope to have more Medtner and Rachmaninov from Mr. Stewart.
