Sorprendentes inicios..........2004-11-16

Dvorak es un gran compositor, sobrepasado por la fama de la Sinfonia del nuevo mundo y sus danzas eslavas, por lo que lo incluido aqui es una sorpresa maravillosa. Estas sinfonias las tres primeras son geniales "Las campanas de Zlonice" tiene un comienzo esplendido, es la primera sinfonia y suena como la obra de un compositor de años, la escuela formadora de Dvorak es de las mejores; un maestoso al inicio nos conduce por una obra esplendida y extensa, sigue el adagio en una forma clasica de sinfonia, un allegretto muy al estilo dvorak, para finalizar en un allegro potente.
Sigue la segunda sinfonia (fijense en las indicaciones de opus puesto que muchas de las sinfonias de Dvorak estuvieron extraviadas o mal catalogadas por mucho tiempo) es otra gran obra
y nos muestra mas facetas compositivas del genio de bohemia. Finaliza este Cd con una pequeña 3a sinfonia de solo de tres movimientos.
Tenemos hasta ahora tres sinfonias que usualmente no se encuentran disponibles, agreguemos ahora la interpretación, la Orquesta Sinfónica de Londres es una de las mejores orquestas del mundo y es menester del director hacer que esto se manifieste, en este caso Witold Rowicki es insuperable, tempos, fuerza, brillantes en forma clara hacen de las grabaciones versiones soberbias, un CD de gran calidad.

Wonderful discovery!.......2002-01-22

Dvorak's three early symphonies are usually overlooked in the classical recording repretoire as being uninventive and boring. Naturally, I was quite skeptical in purchasing this set. What a delightful surprise! The symphonies are clear predecessors to the later works in their power and emotional intensity. I agree that they might not be as passionate as masterpieces like the 8th and 9th; however, they are true gems that should be explored by any Dvorak fan. The recorded sound is great and Rowicki offers fine tempi and dynamics.

Rowicki's Dvorak Yet to be Surpassed.......2006-09-26

One man's meat is another man's poison!

O.K., a previous reviewer said that the Dvorak 5th symphony by Rowicki seemed rushed (not poison!). But IMHO, the Kertesz recording, with the same orchestra, sounds plodding compared to Rowicki whose entusiasm can hardly be contained.

I think we can all agree, however, that anyone who loves Dvorak needs the Rowicki and Kertesz recordings. I, for one, give the nod to the Rowicki.

Buy and enjoy.

Escucharon las tres primeras ("Early simphonies Vol.1) y ahora podemos disfrutar de las siguientes, son verdaderamente geniales, una interpretación soberbia para unas obras de un calidad insuperable, Rowicki como el mejor hace que la Sinfónica de Londres saque sus mejores sonidos, vientos y cuerdas al máximo, interpretes compenetrados en lograr lo mejor, genial.
Ademas el 2° CD incluye dos oberturas "Hussite" y "Mi pais" que se presentan con vigor, con fuerza, con temperamento, con tradicion bohemia son exhultantes de belleza y poder.
Que se puede decir, son sinfonias grandiosas que posiblemente cueste conseguir o que esten en CD junto a alguna pequeña obra, aqui todas juntas en una interpretación sin igual.

Wonderful 4th and 6th, rather hasty 5th.......2003-04-04

Overall, I agree heartily with the previous reviewer; this is a wonderful rendition of gems that are too seldom played. The 4th and 6th are gorgeous passionate performances with wonderful sound. The 5th is also superbly played, but I can't get used to the tempos in the faster movements - way too rushed. I like Kertesz better for this one. Otherwise quite wonderful and a bargain price.

A bargain.......2000-08-24

It's often said that Czech interpreters are paramount ininterpreting Dvorak, an assertion that this CD proves to be wrong. Witold Rowicki was the leading Polish conductor of the second half of this century and here, he signs interpretations of Dvorak's Symphonies nos. 4 to 6 that may even supersede the reference (Kertesz). Few are the conductors that gave such lively performances of these lesser known symphonies. Under Rowicki's baton, even the 6th (one I wasn't really fond of) sounds grandiose and announces the works to come.

The orchestra is brilliant and the recordings are really good. Don't spend your money on other more expensive versions, here is the best.

Truly great performances.......2004-08-17

When I first heard George Szell and the Cleveland Orch. perform Haydn's 93rd symphony, it was like hearing a revelation. There are other very fine recordings. But, this one is superior - it conveys the composer's joy, intelligence, diligence and good nature. This is the way Haydn should be heard.

Sweeping away one's feet.......1999-04-24

When I first heard Szell's reading of the 94th symphony I only knew Bernstein's recording on DG. I remember that it totally swept away my feet. I had to play the second movement over and over again. As if I did'nt know the piece or as if I suddenly realized what wonderful music this was. Szell's conducting is simply sine qua non - especially in the vigorous menuets. I've since come to know Beecham's recording these symphonies but I'll stick to Szell's - mainly because he has got this marvellous orchestra with him, maybe the only orchestra in the world which can play chamber-like in tutti-parts.
