5 out of 5 stars Rodrigo: Bridges across.......2001-10-30

I have heard both works.
Maestro Rodrigo, was the
kind of composer that I like
to refer to as:'time traveler'.
Though blind from a very young age
Rodrigo studied music, and became a
composer like no other compose in our time.
The two works recorded here are his
ballet "Pavana Real"(Royal Pavane) and
the three movement suite, "Tres viejos aires de Danzas"
(Three old dance airs). The ballet is an
orchestration of music by the 16th century
vihuelist Luis de Milan. The Pavana is full
of brass and royal fanfares, reminicence of
the luxery and greatness of the Spanish court
of bygone ages. The suite is more in the style of
the 18th century, it reminds me of the "Zarabanda
Lejana y Villancico".If you like old music and
ever wondered who some old masters would sound
if they had lived to this day, this is the recording.

5 out of 5 stars Summary of press quotes.......1999-03-21

The critics love the flutist's performances of Rodrigo, all of which are a must for Rodrigo fans. "One might well prefer Hansen to Galway," according to Fanfare. The New York Times characterizes her work with Batiz as "irresistibly lyrical," which I think puts it well.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent performances........1999-03-11

Hansen is awesome on the flute. Batiz is confident, majestic. I strongly recommend it, esp. if you don't yet know Rodrigo, but love the classics (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc.).
