"The Vocal Artistry of Marion Talley" presents an overview of the all-too-brief career of American coloratura soprano Marion Talley. The program notes by the excellent late writer Edward
Hagelin Person provide the listener with a thorough biography
of trials and tribulations of the career and private life of Miss Talley (1906-1983). Two rareties are shared here: 1928
test recordings of Marion Talley and Louise Homer (1871-1947) in which the coloratura soprano and the Golden Age contralto are heard in fresh renditions of "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" (Carey/Ambrose)and "Whispering Hope" (Hawthorne). These test recordings were from the collection of the late Katharine Homer Fryer, Daughter and last accompanist of Louise Homer. Voice students can not only gain new appreciaton of Miss Talley, but also will be able to hear how beautifully Madame Homer sang in the twilight years of her long career. An excellent CD selection for singers, voice teachers, students and opera lovers alike.
