classic music CD.......2007-06-27
The CD was well represented by the clips on the Amazon website and came in time for our event. We did have a problem with the charge but that was taken care of promptly. Great service.
Good for beginners.......2007-02-15
It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.
Great mix.......2007-02-14
All the best composers! Over an hour of music. A samble of the greatest pieces.
Good for first-timer.......2007-01-22
This is the first time I have ever bought a classical music CD and I was very pleased with this one. It has a good variety of selections. I would buy it again.

Panoramic View, from 2007--.......2007-06-20
"Panorama" was released in the later days of my initial Cars thrill, in August, 1980. I had listened to Candy-O far more than any sane person ever would, and was ready for a new Cars ride. "Touch and Go" was just what I needed to get me to Musicland to buy the new LP, "Panorama."
The first few listens had me basically lifting the needle after "Touch and Go," and dropping it back to the beginning of the track. Eventually the needle found its way to the rest of the LP, and I found more and more music to like. And, 27 years later, I love this album (now on CD!) more than ever... it has the staying power very few albums from 1980 ever had.
May God grant rest to my beloved Benjamin Orr, the most underrated vocalist and song writer of his time. The man had singing chops that shamed many of his peers. I recommend his final interview, on "The Cars Live," on DVD The Cars Live - Musikladen 1979 from Image Entertainment. He was a sick man at the time, but was happy to keep giving his all to his fans.
weird and wonderful Cars.......2007-03-17
Few bands were able to bridge the gap between hook-laden hard rock and the synthesizer dominated noodling of new wave music that was enjoying its relatively short heyday in the early '80's. Nobody attracted classic rock fans and new wavers alike better than the Cars, with the possible exception of Devo or The Pretenders.
"Panorama" unlike the first two releases, is full ahead Ric Ocasek quirkyness, full of strange rhythms, sample noises and alienating lyrics. The title track layers itself over and over into a puddle of delightful electronic swirls by songs' end. Give rock fans credit for showing an appetite for weird rhythms particularly with "Touch And Go", a hit for the band and similiar somewhat to the Police's "Spirits In The Material World" without being a knockoff.
"Gimme Some Slack" gives us a Stonesy riff and the most accessible beat on the CD. Other tracks like "Getting Through" are punky in spirit, "Down Boys" snarls with lines like "You thought you were hysterical and I still ain't laughing" and a theremin style synth during the chorus.
Unlike the next two albums the Cars would release before disbanding that were decidedly commercial and anything but adventurous, not that they were bad by any means, "Panorama" probably stands as the one album the Cars did with little concern for accessability. As such, it has aged well, standing tall next to the debut "The Cars", which is still one of rock and roll's greatest debut albums ever. It's interesting that with the onset of the technology available that computer driven music hasn't evolved much over the years, except for rude noise by NIN and some bland dance beats. "Panorama" shows us what could have been had music turned more electronic instead of hair farmer metal and grunge within ten years of its release.
Quirky and essential Cars album.......2007-01-01
As the other reviewers have noted here, this album was a big departure from the first two Cars albums. The first two albums were catchier and more upbeat; this one has a more despairing or at least curious feel, and yet it still has it's own greatness. Not surprising that this is the Cars album with the strongest Ric Ocasek imprint on it, yet the full band also contributes nicely. The title track "Panorama" is probably my personal favorite, "Touch and Go" is the most Cars-like when compared to the first two albums, and "Misfit Kid" is much like a great Ocasek solo track - a theme of alienation combined with wry humor, in other words an Ocasek specialty. In fact "Misfit Kid" could well be a biographical song about Ocasek himself. Really all the songs here have something to offer, once you get used to the offbeat style. The Cars album that followed this one, "Shake it Up", was much more of a return to the form of the catchier first two albums. Possibly if Shake it Up had been the third album, and Panorama the fourth, this album might have been better appreciated in its own time. Or maybe not. But viewed now as one of six Cars albums rather than one of three, Panorama can be appreciated as a very interesting and essential part of the Cars catalog. It's really hard to rate this album vs. the other Cars albums, given that it's not the type of album that made the band so popular, I wouldn't say it's their best, but given the interesting creativity that often "works" here, I'd say it's not their least worthy album either. So "essential" works as well as anything. If only Ocasek's solo albums were near this good.
New Wave was nearly over.......2006-10-27
Almost as good as Candy-o, but even more trendy and the New Wave sound is losing the punkish, bizarre edge and becoming a bit monotonous. That being said, there are some good songs on this album, oh yes. "Touch and Go" is one their best songs ever, with an odd, lurching beat in the verse that gives way to a stunning, grooving, chorus, that gives way to one of the best guitar solos ever recorded. "You Wear Those Eyes" is a beautifully weird love song. There's a bit of reuse of old ideas and lyrics (how many times can Rik Ocasek make wordplay with "come"), but it's not a bad album. New wave had several elements or angles to it, one was its punk roots, but there was also an influence of the 'robotic' sound of bands like Kraftwerk. At this stage in the game, the keyboard sounds are a bit tamer and the groove is getting very robotic and mechanical. This is their last really good album.
Ric Ocasek writes some trippy stuff.......2006-10-26
Not the greatest Cars album, but lyrically it is one of their most interesting. Several songs from this album do make the "greatest hits" list, but it is some of the non-singles like "Down Boys" that will draw most of your attention.

Tchaikovsky and Tchai.......2006-07-17
I wondered what do Tchaikovsky and Tea have in common, and then I remembered that in many countries across the world - the word for tea is "tchai". That aside, yes, this is a refreshing blend of music, perfect for tea time - relaxing and reviving at the same time, and quite a bit dreamy.
Teatime...or otherwise........2005-11-02
I've owned this for years & play it often. It IS perfect for teatime, as it makes pleasant background music which you can talk over....but is also great w/volume up in car w/it's rambunctious side and incredible instrumentation. A really nice blend of Tchaikovsky's pieces.
Tchaikovsky's Dreamier Music: A Soothing Album.......2005-07-31
"Set your Life to Classical Music" is a fine album series that feature beautiful classical music for background music of any occasion- weddings, barbecues, breakfast, beauty sleep, bathtime, reading a book, romantic dinner, massages you name it. And indeed many classical pieces are perfectly therapeutic sessions in themselves. This album features the more intimate-sounding, soulful, sweet and relaxing tunes of Tchaikovsky. He did compose heavier and more dramatically intense music- his later symphonies, his Overtures and operas. But here we hear no Russian fire or harshness. Instead we are treated to the charming Mozartian style works of the Roccoco Variations and the Piano Trios. The disc also features the Andantino from his Piano Concerto No. 1 - and that piece is almost a Chopin Nocturne, with beautiful soft rubato and dream-like qualities. Included here is also the Pas De Deux and Odette and Siegfried theme from his ballet Swan Lake, lilting and graceful as the dancers movements themselves. The dance divertissements from Nutcracker round out the ballet segments with charming allure. The melancholy String Quartet and Serenade For Strings is here as well and not to mention the beautiful, wistful excerpts from the ballet Sleeping Beauty, his greatest ballet. The Panorama and Vision of Aurora played with delicate strings and sublime technicality. This is indeed a "refreshing blend for body and spirit" and is in fact perfect to listen to while drinking tea cosnidering you drink tea. I have tried it and believe me the experience is very soothing and refreshing. Try putting this on in your miniature CD player with headphones, then go out into an outdoor, natural environment, a park or a backyard garden or patio, and drink tea or read a book and you will find this is a fine companion.
Beautiful.......2003-08-25
One of the best aspects of Tchiakovsky's music is the ocnsistency: he just DIDN'T compose any bad pieces. And with such consistency, you can compile a CD such as this.
THis CD gives you a proper taste of Tchaikovsky's style, and is a very nice sampler of some of his most famous works. This CD lacks some of his more energetically volatile works, but it thus lives up to its title. It is extremely relaxing, and soothes you as you listen to it. The works are melodic, and the orchestras and soloists are superb, especially in the Serenade and the Rococco Variations. I highly recommend this CD for anyone, even if you aren't a huge classical music fan.
Tchaikovsky's Most Enchanting Tunes.......2000-08-19
Like the title suggest, a good companion for tea time. Or any time. The music of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky is beautiful, lyrical and full of a grace and charm that parallels to Mozart's. A great collection of music by the legendary Russian composer. He had a gift for making music in a style that did not sway away from Russian folk music but that added a Classical perfection, or better yet a Romantic mastership. Who can forget the Sleeping Beauty suite. Here is the Panorama scene.. gorgeous music. I recommend the entire ballet score. The Nutcraker and Swan Lake are also here. The Piano concerto no. 1 in B, Andante Cantibile and so much more. I garauntee any listener satisfaction.

When former Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico (cha-KEY-so) reinvented himself as a pop instrumentalist in 1993 (the year he released Acoustic Highway, his solo debut), he brought the still-fledgling contemporary instrumental genre one of its freshest sounds in years. Chaquico blended skillful pop-rock-blues songcraft with studio savvy to produce a lush, layered acoustic sound so full-bodied that at times he seemed to be leading a guitar choir. His initial hit, the title track from that first disc (and the concluding piece on this best-of package), remains one of the most cheerfully infectious tunes in this category. Other selections on Panorama, a retrospective that samples his first five recordings, also capture the hip, lyrical joyfulness of Chaquico's early work ("Native Tongue," "Sacred Ground," "Return of the Eagle"), where new melodic ideas might pop up at any point in the composition. Elements of smooth jazz began surfacing on his third disc, A Thousand Pictures, and that trend has persisted ever since, draining some of the organic, free-spirited spark from Chaquico's music. The two new tunes found on this disc, "Café Carnival" (a Latin big-band production) and "Beyond Words," suggest that pattern still prevails, and while Chaquico can make smooth jazz sound pretty good (try "Sweet Talk"), that easy-listening glaze is an unnecessary crutch for such an imaginative player. Nevertheless, Panorama is an attractive package; just a touch too sweet in places. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Craig Chaquico's best is best!.......2007-04-19
This CD is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I was familiar with several of the songs before I ordered the CD, but there were other beautiful songs on the CD that have made me a true fan. While I recognized Chaquico as having a mellow Spanish-guitar style, I really got a sense of Native American tones in the music on this CD - a really well-developed theme and a great sound. This CD was WELL worth the price!
Soothing.......2007-02-19
This is an excellent CD to fall asleep with. I love it & even my children ask that I put it on at night. It is so peaceful.
Magnificent Talent.......2006-08-28
I am no expert, by any means, on acoustic guitar music. I just know what I like. I LOVE this album. The music weaves and meanders into your soul. Soothing at times then building to a crescendo of ecstacy. You can almost feel the strings vibrating as Craig applies his talent. I can listen to it over and over.
Ambrosia for the Soul.......2005-08-18
There isn't a track on the CD that doesn't inspire your soul in some way. Whether being touched by some of the darker, brooding music or the livelier, uplifting sounds. Sometimes artists should just let their music come through and forget about lyrics. Panorama is a perfect example of what other musicians should strive for. This is an excellent CD and the guitar is fantastic.
Panorama is the most to say about this album !!!.......2005-02-10
Panorama is the most to say about this album because this album is like a mental vision of a series of events!Since his 1993 debut Acoustic Highway, Craig Chaquico's creative blending of snappy guitar melodies and subtle Native American textures has contributed something of a spiritual nature to smooth jazz. The twelve "greatest hits" tracks of Panorama: The Best of Craig Chaquico bear out this evolution. Earlier material like the soundscape-heavy "Gathering of the Tribes"(my favorite song) and the full of energy "Native Tongue" let his guitar lead the way."Cafe Carnival" is a latin influenced song that makes you wanna dance after you hear it. "Sweet Talk" and "Autumn Blue" added the blistering tenor counterpoint of Richard Elliot's saxophone. This CD is a time travel bridge to Craig Chaquico's days with Starship. All I can say is this album rocks and I always have this album next to me in my car and I NEVER get tired of listening to it.My favorite song from this CD is "Gathering of the Tribes".This is because I found my inner connection listening to that song. When listening to this CD, all my problems and troubles go away.I am in debt to you Craig, for putting a smile on my face when listening to your music......

Ballet .......2007-07-01
I was away for a long time. I feel very better now. I love this music and I am grateful to it.
Masterful recording of masterful compositions.......2007-01-19
This recording has become rare to find (in Europe), which surprises me, for I find both the compositions and the performance excellent. Especially the Sylphides, which are orchestral arrangements of some of Chopin's finest piano pieces - are heavenly. Highly recommended.
Ballet bon bons German style.......2004-06-26
Herbert von Karajan was the most recorded conductor in history. For that reason, he made a lot of records (that turned into CDs) like this one -- collections of well-known music that the public wants to hear over and over again. This group of ballet music is good, done in Karajan's typical highly chiseled style with a minimum of sentimentality. I once read a critic who called the style Karajan and Szell popularized the "school of industrial perfection", meaning every note in its place every time. That's true here, too. My favorite among these bon bons is the Tchaikovsky music from "Sleeping Beauty". Karajan is still hailed today for his later stereo version of the final Tchaikovsky troika of symphonies. Many critics put him up there with the best Tchaikovksy recordings ever. You can tell why critics were so persuaded by listening to his bleeding chuncks from "Sleeping Beauty". Not only does it contain the essential Berlin Philharmonic perfection and polish, it goes a little further than everything else on this set in terms of emotional attachment. The first two sections of the music, "Introduction. La Fee da Lilas" and "Adagio. Pas d'action" pack an enormous wallop. The final section is monumentally done by Karajan and the Berliners, surging forward in waves of sound and emotion until the listener is swept away during the crescendo in almost unconscious grandeur. I urge you to listen to this magnificent music-making and try not to develop goose flesh at the peak. This connection between perfection, music and emotion is what set Karajan apart from every other conductor in the 20th Century, and the reason he is as vivid and a larger than life figure today, 15 years after his death.
First-Rate Ballet Music.......2003-11-14
This collection of "Famous Ballet Music" from DG's mid-priced "2CD" series is truly first-rate. A lot of the credit for that goes to the man in charge of this set, Herbert von Karajan. The great conductor leads the Berlin Philharmonic through glowing highlights and suites from Offenbach's "Gaite Parisienne," Gounod's "Faust," Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" and Delibes' "Coppelia," and the complete Chopin's "Les Sylphides" and "Dance of the Hours" from Ponchielli's "La Gioconda." Of course, the pieces featured here are the types of orchestral nuggets that someone like Karajan and the Berliners could eat for breakfast while reading the paper. But Karajan really prided himself in being one of the stereo-age's best Tchaikovsky conductors, and he made several recordings of each of the three ballet suites in addition to his many Symphonic Cycles. Also, his early 1960s accounts of the Chopin and Delibes in particular (the remainder of the works were recorded in the early 1970s), are as good, if not better, than any performance I have heard. In all, this is a collection that will appeal to the casual fan and serious collector alike.

Customer Reviews:
have been searching for this for years.......2007-06-11
Happy to see the Collegium Terpsichore CD out again (disc 1), though hiding in this bargain set, wasn't immediately obvious. But one listen to the Praetorius samples and knew I found it. This album was played continuously on the air on KKHI when I was in college (circa late-hippie_, and I never tired of it. I wore out my LPs. Now I've misplaced that single CD so might have to buy it again if I can't locate it soon. Phooey. At least it's available. It's the most refreshing CD you'll ever put on your player.
Been looking for years.......2007-02-13
I have been looking for the Deutsche Grammophon "Dances from Terpsicore" from the 60's but to no avail till now. The entire album is included in this two disc set...

An Excellent Introduction to Renaissance Dance.......2005-06-23
This is my first disc of Renaissance dance music, for which I have been searching for quite a while. I thought ir was very excellent. I have heard some before when I was in a few Shakespeare plays, and ever since, I have been looking. These selections provide a broad range of the music of the courts during the 15th and 16th centuries. There is music from all over Europe, including what sounds like Southeastern Europe. The interpretations are also very good, and they put me, at least, back into that time period. The only problem I found was the glockenspiel like instrument, which was sometimes a little annoying. Otherwise, wonderful.
renaissance dance music.......2004-10-24
This CD is a compilation of three recordings which are From The Vault: Dance Music of the High Renaissance by Fritz Neumeyer, Dance Music of the Renaissance by Josef Ulsamer, and Early Baroque Music by Konrad Ragossnig.
Wonderful reissue from early days of early music recordings.......2004-01-28
This cd is a reissue of material from several albums in the 60s. The Fritz Neumeyer recordings of Praetorius are from an old Archiv LP that was one of my first introductions to "early music", and it can be charged that it was more enthusiastic than historically informed. A recorder consort will take up one section of a tune, and then a group of viols will swirl in, maybe followed by crumhorns playing another brief phrase, and then a solo harpsichord finishing off the tune. Different instruments provide a variety of textures of sound, keeping things interesting even though most of the tunes are played fairly "straight", without a lot of improvisation. There's been quite a bit of research and rediscovery of Renaissance techniques since this record was first out, and I appreciate those, but these old recordings really get my toe tapping and remind me why I fell in love with early music in the first place.

Customer Reviews:
A powerful and wonderful CD.......2005-11-08
The performances are superb. The sound quality is excellent. It is a fine choice of works by Rimsky-Korsakov (over 2 hours and 35 minutes of music). We hear one of my favorite performances of Sheherazade. And the Capriccio Espagnol. The Flight of the Bumblebee. The Tsar Saltan Suite, the Golden Cockerel Suite, the Russian Easter Festival Overture. And the Second symphony. These are all dramatic works by a master of orchestration.
I highly recommend this two-disc set.
POWERFUL , and AWESOME!!!.......2004-07-11
The power that radiates from the instruments in Scheherezade is magnificient. Please, I know this line of CD's are expensive, but they are worth it. The sound is incredible! if you turn it up real loud, while listening through the headphones, you can hear the people taking their breaths before they play, dropping various items such as mallets, and sticks! Thats just how sensitive the sound is. Out of 10 stars, i give it Infinity stars...every time I listen to it, it gets better, and better, and better............
A must.......2002-12-14
Buy this CD. Don't think about it. Just buy it. I, personally, bought this CD because of the fact that it had Sheherazade (an incredibly moving and colorful piece). This interpretation of Sheherazade by Karajan is among the best (if not THE best). However, as I began to listen to the rest of the CD I found the other pieces to be equally brilliant and astounding. The flare of Capriccio Espagnol, the dramatic Second Symphony and the simple ingenuity and cheeriness of the Tsar Sultan suite. The piece that I found most surprising was the Russian Easter Festival Overture. This is one of music's most under appreciated pieces in music, and ranks easily belong side Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet or Brahms Academic Festival and Tragic overtures. Its relatively simplistic themes are some of the most exciting and riveting every written. This CD is a must for ANY lover (or of anybody even slightly interested in classical music in general). I would note that the sound quality is excellent as well...if that's a must for some of you.

Customer Reviews:
Serviceable Tchaikovsky Ballet Interpretation by Andre Previn.......2006-12-24
This is a good rendering of three of Tchaikovsky's most well known ballets--Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and the Nutcracker. Andre Previn conducts the London Symphony Orchestra.
The sound is crisp, the orchestra plays handsomely, Previn leads the orchestra well. The Nutcracker, for example, is a nice interpretation and, at Christmas time, adds an enjoyable element to the household as one plays the music.
I would not say that this is an inspired CD, treading new territory in interpreting Tchaikovsky. But it is a well done work and will be pleasing to most listeners.
dull previn.......2005-08-01
i like the playing at times from the london synphony but previns interpertation ruins it.these are great masterpeices that deserve better,iv never liked the way previn does his music to begin with to dull, not a good conductor, and when the london synphony got him in the late 60s he was pretty inexperienced as a conductor of classical music and it shows here

Tchaikovsky was one of the most beloved classical music composers. Many of his compositions -- including his piano and violin concertos -- are among the most popular of all classical compositions. But Tchaikovsky's finest compositions were his three ballets, excerpts of which are presented on this CD. And one of the most outstanding conductors of Tchaikovsky's ballets is Andre Previn. My first recommendation would be to get complete performances of all three of Tchaikovsky's ballets. However, those who wish to sample the highlights of these masterpieces can do no better than this outstanding -- and bargain priced -- CD. This is some of the greatest music ever written by anyone, beautifully performed by a master of the genre.

Customer Reviews:
Great, except for the concerto.......2004-08-29
The orchestral works by Sibelius are excellent. Very dark and heavy, but dramatic and powerful. The Berlin Philharmonic is excellent on this recording.
It would warrant five stars except for the recording of the violin concerto. I can hear that with a good violinist playing (unfortunately, I don't have any other recordings) it could be beautiful, but Christian Ferras at times uses so much vibrato that you can barely hear the pitch (he has one of those wide and fast vibratos that make you shiver). For instance, in the first minute or so of the first movement, there is a hauntingly beautiful violin melody against a sparse orchestral accompaniment, yet Ferras butchers it by playing far too loud and with far too much vibrato. Ferras plays the showy sections correctly technically, but musically he makes them sound terrible. He doesn't make them fit in with the rest of the concerto; he makes some sections sound almost like etudes.
The rest of the CD is great. Enjoy.
Superb 5th of Sibelius.......2004-06-04
Alot of people just don't understand how great Herbert K really was...Sibelius himself said he was the only conductor who fully understood his music! Add to that the intensity of tone and wonderful focused sound of the Berlin Phil and you have a group that seemed designed to perform Sibelius..
The Valse Triste of Sibelius has never been played better by anyone..only Beecham is the competitor in this field...Kamu is super in the Second and generates alot of electricity...he is a very underrated musician today..Check Kamu out with Berwald on Naxos.
Magnificent.......2004-05-19
On the Sibelius Violin Concerto with Christian Ferras. Astonishingly underrated. I was quite overwhelmed by it. (Only David Oistrakh is any thing like as good.) None of the showy scraping `gypsy' violin style, just nobility, power, strength and seriousness, which is just what Sibelius is said to have wanted. Apparently, Sibelius marked a slower tempo in the first movement than he might have done just to deter violinists from using it for virtuoso display. Ferras plays this piece as if it were a symphony: passionate with a superb full tone and magnificent intonation. Very good recording quality too. Karajan gives him just the right support: dark, powerful, purposive. Ferras isn't quite as well known these days as some other violinists - this may be partly owning to the fact that he died comparatively young, aged only 49 in 1982. I can't recommend it too highly. The Karajan Sibelius 5 is well-known as superb. Just list to the horns at the beginning of the last movement. Kamu's Sibelius 2 is less well-known, but is magnificent. The Berlin Phil brass play wonderfully, as do the rest of the orchestra - the ending, as is not always the case manages to be infinitely powerful without being bombastic.
Excellent Compilation, unbeatable price.......2002-01-10
This is a must buy for Sibelius fans, and also people who want to know more about Sibelius' work. Karajan do a great job here, present the probably greatest performance of Symphony 5 and Finlandia among all known recording(although performance of Valse triste is far from excellent). Once you listen to the opening of Sym 5 1st mvt, you can feel the wildness and grandeur of Scandinavia immediately. Violin Concerto performed by Ferras is lyric and delicate. it is also a favourite to me, since I am bored by the sparkling style of Heifetz that make me shivering. I recommanded all classical listener who do not own any Sibelius take this disc to your first collection.(since it is far cheaper than the DG original Symphony 4-7 by Karajan). You will be fascinated.
Great compilation.......2000-10-18
Here we have a gathering of the finest performances of the most wellknown Sibelius-works available in the archives of Deutsche Gramophone. 2 CD's for the price of one makes up for a great bargain. Karajan, as always, is focused in creating a mix of as much beauty and power as possible. In this kind of music it works off quite well, especially in the Finlandia, The Swan of Tounela and the 5th symphony, that all are exceptionally fine. The violin concerto and the 'valse triste', though, are wellplayed and beautiful (that goes for violin soloist Ferras too) - yes - but lacking some nerve and passion, and especially the valse trist is done a little too slow.
Okku Kamu's, the other baton-holder of this compilation, account begins very good with a splendid performance of the Karelia suit that shows his understanding of the works diversity - he and the Helsinki SO sounds natural, charming and playful - yet intense and making you feel the underlying seriousness that always is there in Sibelius music. His rendition of the 2nd symphony, a work about the finnish emotions and patriotic struggle against a greater power (Russia, Sweden), is - emotional, dark and vivid. Here he plays with the Berliner PO (as is the case with all the Karajan tracks) who produces great detail to what is an over all splendid performance.
All together, most of the performances on this CD is top-of-the-list. The fact that two of them aren't (the Valse triste and the violin concerto), does, however, not mean that they're bad, not at all. Karajan brings forth the splendid beauty in Sibelius' music, while Kamu finds more of the natural aspects, seriousness and mysticism. They're a perfect match, giving you an extremely good compilation of a great semi-modern composer at his best. So if you want a good glimpse of what is so great about Sibelius - you just can't afford to miss this record.
