Album Description

"Steps Taken" is Ted Hogarth's debut CD as a leader. The five original compositions included show his love for all styles of jazz, from tradional swing to Afro-Cuban. The remaining pieces are Ted's arrangements of some of his favorite classic jazz standards. His quartet of Neal Alger on guitar, Tom Knific on bass, and Darren Scorza on drums is his primary vehicle for composition and improvisation. The duos with Tom Knific and special guest pianist Kevin Cole reveal Ted's deep love for melody and musical communication. Everyone who likes to swing and be lost in melodic bliss will love every minute of "Steps Taken".

All I can say is WOW! This CD dominates my drive to and from work and everywhere else a CD player is available. The smoothness of his bari sax and the suprise of Ted's use of his bass clarinet add to the freshness of this new artist! Where has he been hiding? I eagerly recommend this CD to all jazz lovers!

A new Gerry Mulligan.......2001-01-08

This new and refreshing baritone saxophone player not only swings with jazz, he presents ballad standards with an entirely new sound, never before heard on the baritone. Who could ever imagine "Laura" or "Morning Glory" played smoothly and hauntingly on the big barry? The last time I heard "Pure Imagination" was in the movie "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and I always wondered why no one bothered to record it. You won't hear it anywhere else, and Ted does it beautifully, on guess what? The bass clarinet, as he does on "Ghost of a Chance" and "Harbinger"! A big bonus on this disk is the accompaniment by his good friend and world-famous Gershwin pianist, Kevin Cole. I'm sure that George would love this one.

WOW. I had the lucky opportunity to get this CD and it totally blew me away. Great, great jazz, and this lady might very well have one of the best, sultriest and [exciting] voices I have ever heard. I'm amazed she isn't famous -- she should be.

Album Description

More and more indie artists are producing wonderful albums. This is yet another example of how much talent is available to America and the world.

Camille Harrison must have spent many hours selecting the musicians and song material for her album. She recruited an all-star group of musicians who really support the songs in excellent fashion. For example, Camille's original title cut, "The Big Parade" features a strong thythm section to give solid foundation to trumpeter Jim Williamson's neat horn charts. She then goes straight to Monk's "Round Midnight," where she opened the tune with a voice/bass first chorus. Bassist Jim Ferguson does an excellent job with Camille's vocals followed by tasty piano work of Bob Patin. (She also has Same Levine, sax/flute, John Knowles, guitar, Chris Brown & Jim White, drums.) "Twisted" is also a favorite.

There are many standards on Camille's album. Her co-written (with the late Chet Atkins) song, "Why Should I Love You" shows the tender pop style of Camille.
