It's not opera; it's not a pop concert; it's not Broadway. It's all of these and none of them. Once you accept the fact that this sequel to the original blockbuster concert recording is less about music and more about entertainment and the power of musical personalities, you can appreciate what you're hearing as an event--phenomenal and bizarre, momentous and frivolous. This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier

Yo tenia el Cd de este concierto, pero sin duda el DVD presenta la realidad, lo sublime de este evento, porque ademas de ver las interpretaciones, trae varios puntos y canciones extras. Carreras creo que esta bien, saca la tarea. Placido Domingo en Amor vida de mi vida, logra llevar el concierto a su punto mas alto en ese momento, punto superado unicamente por Pavarotti en Nessum Dorma. Pavarotti como siempre sublime como dije en Nessum Dorma, Ave maria y en los popurris. La calidad del DVD es genial, con full screen y sonido digital. Otro punto buenisimo es la aparicion de Frank Sinatra en la cancion My way y de otras luminarias del cine y la política. Espero que este comentario sirva de ayuda para aquellos que quieran este DVD.

The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?

This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.

Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.

I am not a regular Opera fan, hoever these THREE are the Best. their songs they sing together are SUPER!!! And the range of NOTES REACHED ARE REMARKABLE. tHE MIXTURE of songs is a treat for all, even if you are not an OPERA FAN!!!! Great show!!!!!!

Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.

Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06

The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.

If recent years don't amount to a golden age for acoustically inclined, blues-based singer-songwriters, they at least give the impression of fine, burnished copper. Or so this tribute to "grit lit" novelist Larry Brown (who died in 2004) would argue. Brown loved and celebrated these voices, writing liner notes for Blue Mountain and an extended essay on Robert Earl Keen, among others. In his fiction he made the sometimes dire, sometimes comic humanism of real lives sing in vigorous and dusty rhythms. This gathering of admirers and fellow travelers (some of whom, like Cary Hudson and T-Model Ford, hail from Brown's Mississippi) manages the same feat. With a spirit of indolent story telling and homemade rock, the set focuses on alternate and live takes, with a sound as unvarnished as Brown's diction. Scott Miller offers an unreleased, laid-back but still rocking version of "Thirsty," T-Model Ford gets as low and mean as he ever has on the Muddy Waters signature number "Love Me," and legendary Ardent producer Jim Dickinson warbles sweetly through Bob Dylan's "I'll Remember You." The collection only stumbles with novelist Madison Smartt Bell's clichéd and choked tribute to getting drunk with the author. Some of the grittiest and best moments, though, come from the lesser-known voices: Caroline Herring sings a tough, honest ballad of self-reliance, Ben Weaver "sings a pretty song to an ugly world" with a voice caked in mud, Tim Lee and Susan Bauer Lee do a mean John Doe/Exene Cervenka impersonation, and Brent Best (formerly of Slobberbone, now of the Drams) unwinds a riveting, wide-open story of a young boy's coming of age in a small town. Producer Tim Lee hoped the collection would play like the kind of mix tape Brown loved to pop in his truck on long drives through Mississippi. Wow, this musical tribute to Larry Brown keeps your feet tapping and your mind working. These songs, by artists Brown admired, put you in the passenger seat of his little truck as you drive through the small and friendly neighborhood in the South. Spending much of his life as a firefighter, Larry Brown wrote and finally struck gold in 1988 with a collection of stories called Facing the Music. As his writing continued, he became well-known as a Southern writer of literature. His love for music equaled his passion for writing. After Brown suffered a fatal heart attack, producer and pal Tim Lee contacted artists to create this musical tribute to a man considered a friend to most.

Listening to the album, you feel the flowing and engaging wondrous moments of songs that hit the sweet spot - that is what it's all about. With 12 previously unreleased tracks, Just One More contains quality tracks by Brown's friends including Greg Brown, Caroline Herring, North Mississippi Allstars and Robert Earl Keen. The American Roots strand interweaves the genres of blues, folk and salt of the earth lyrics -- seeming much like Brown's characters, who were honest and pained, but eternally real. As a serious music fan, Brown worked with several artists at some point to live out his musical dreams. The final track called "Don't Let the Door" presents both Brown and another southern novelist, Clyde Edgarton combining musical talents.

The underlying feeling of the music offers solace and, after it ended, I listened again. Heartfelt and warm, lyrically pleasing and honest, Larry Brown feels like he could be my buddy too. At the end of the disc, I wanted more music, a beer, a cigarette and a seat on a patio where I could watch people and smile at them.

This album is better than we might have had a right to expect. Whoever would have thought Madison Smartt Bell could play the guitar so well. Lots of good stuff here to enjoy whether you like Larry Brown's writing or not.

Wonderful - Very Entertaining - As If You Are There.......2005-08-26

I agree with most all the other reviewers, I also felt Ms Peters did not put her best effort there, Michael Ball would have presented "Time Heals Everthing", as it should be, Still, Its Bernadette's song, and appreciated. Over all this CD is wonderful listening, too bad it was not released in video or DVD. Buy it, you won't be sorry if you are a true Broadway fan. Would love to hear it on a DVD Audio release (at least).

Great album despite the synthesizer.......2004-03-08

This album has some amazing performances on it- Rita Moreno's "I Won't Send Roses" is one of the only two song recordings that literally bring me to tears every time. The only drawback: the orchestra is small and has a synthesizer instead of a string section.

Definitely Narada's Best Ever.......2007-02-09

The first time I heard this CD, I was living in Juneau, Alaska, just 2 miles from the magnificent Mendenhall Glacier...or at least what's left of it. Blueberry bushes filled our backyard and enormous ravens frequently cawed in the trees, landed with a thump on our roof, and pecked at the skylight over our bedroom. My clock radio was set for 6 AM. As it was summer, the sun was already high in the sky, and I awoke to the sound of the chirping birds that introduce Wayne Gratz's "The Green Room." At the risk of echoing so many others who have reviewed this CD, it truly was nothing short of magical. I was captivated and sat there in bed, looking out at the evergreen boughs bathed in sunlight just...listening...drinking in the moment.

Once the song ended and the spell was broken, I immediately called KTOO (Juneau's public radio station) and asked "What was that song you just played and how can I get a copy?" They told me the name of the CD and I ordered a copy from my local music store. It has been my favorite New Age CD since. I think the only song I love more on the CD than "The Green Room" is Alasdair Fraser's "First Flight." Like "The Green Room," "First Flight" also incorporates birdsong into the melody -- a layering of sound sweetness that I find uncommonly lovely. The combination of sweeping harpstrings and Fraser's celtic fiddle phrasing creates an image in the mind's eye of a majestic bird swooping down, spreading its wings, straining higher and then...soaring on the wind. It is simply breathtaking to hear. I enjoy almost all my Narada CD's, but none as much as this one which is a true stand-out.

The first time I heard this music I had borrowed the cd from the library to listen to on my daily commute. After listening to the first 2 or 3 songs, I knew I would have to find it. It is beautiful moving music. You can almost feel the stories each song is modeled after. You won't be unhappy!

I used to play Narada CDs to send my son to sleep when he was young (he's 22 now). This one was one of his favorites and remains to this day. In particular, Wayne Gratz' "The Green Room" - I've heard the piece probably a hundred times over but the memories it evokes can still easily bring tears to my eyes.

for letting me borrow it. I immediately purchased it. I am not afraid to say that some tunes in here can make my eyes water. This is great music for your soul. The music takes you into each story like a trip back to childhood. Every artist in here

my childhood remembered.......2001-11-14

When I was in junior high my mother and I were shoping and came across this tape. We got in the car and were captured by the sound of such peace. In the seventh grade I made a copy for my music teacher but I never gave it to her. I think I will make her one now. I am so happy to find this once again and I can not wait to experience it again as my love for this type of music has grown. This album was the begining of my passion for beautiful classical music. All these years it has been with me.

As some of you know, I am a Ferrante and Teicher fan from way back. When I read their dedication on this disc, I was really impressed. I dont know which one is officially retired, but the fact that he came out of retirement to help put this disc together was great... and the disc is A-1! During the Bicentennial year(1976) I had a vinyl disc, Spirit of 176, which
much of the music from this disc is from. Some of the musical effects are quite interesting, and my mother really loves the disc. I am so pleased that they released it. A real keeper!

Beautiful!!!.......2007-04-20

Purchased this gem a few weeks ago and ripped to the iPod. Since then, ALL of the songs are well on their way to my 'Top 25 Most Played' playlist. This album is awesome!! The idea behind it was brilliant, and it was well produced (I'm a serious audiophile [jazz roots], and thus particular about my recordings, so I know great ones when I hear them). Plus, the album just flows (think the intercessory prayer interludes between each track was a great touch). I agree with a previous post...this album is definitely a Grammy contender...and, oh yeah, it's ANOINTED!!

This CD is wonderful!!!!!!!!! The lyrics will minister to your soul and the music is excellent. It is hard to select a favorite, but I especially like "Thy Will" and "Deliver Us From Evil". Certainly, this will turn out to be a "one-of-a-kind" collector's item. I am buying several copies for friends and family.

I have never heard anything like this in my life...I am a Christian and No one has ever done this with The Lord's Prayer..it is truly a collector's item.
I also love the diversity of styles, and the quality of the Artist performances...this is definitely a Grammy Award winner.
