This album pairs one of the greatest flamenco singers of today, cantaor Diego El Cigala, with one of Cuba's finest Afro-Cuban pianists, Bebo Valdes. With Valdes (father of the great Chucho Valdes) born in 1918, there's a 40-year age difference between the pianist and the singer, but they do a fine job crossing generations and oceans to discover the commonalities between Caribbean and the Iberian music, coming up with a romantic marriage of the two cultures using rumbas, guajira, sons and boleros. All the songs are classics out of the Latin music tradition, using just a handful of players in support. Valdes's fingers are delicate and prone to dramatic flourishes; Cigala's voice is pure flamenco in its hoarse intonation, cadence and emotional outpourings. The two masters make the union work by focusing on the drama of the love songs--"Veinte Años," "Inolvidable" and the title track are just three amazing examples--as fuel for some of the most exquisitely passionate music to come out in ages. --Tad Hendrickson
Album Description
Winners of three PREMIOS DE LA MUSICA AWARDS (Spanish Academy of Musical Arts & Sciences) Lágrimas Negras, a collection of old standards performed by Cuban jazz pianist Bebo Valdes and Spanish flamenco vocalist Diego el Cigala.
This was recorded at the suggestion of Hollywood Oscar® Award-winning director, Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque), which has become a phenomenon in Spain.
The result is a journey that discovers the essence of the Latino "love" song with connections to Cuba, Central and South America, and Spain.
Picked by New York Times critic Ben Rattcliff as "the best album of the year", Lágrimas Negras has had an impressive debut. The album has never been out of the top 30 since its release in Spain over nine months ago, achieving double Platinum sales status. It has won five Amigo Awards, one Premio Ondas, and three Premios de la Musica Awards (including Best Album).

Beautiful synergy.......2007-06-08
A unique combination of beautiful jazz piano music played by acclaimed Cuban Bebo Valdés with the sensuous hoarse voice of young Gypsy singer El Cigala. First heard them at a friend's house and could not wait until I purchased the CD for myself and to give to friends. Great selection and variety of songs. The nearest to perfect symbiosis I have ever seen in a collaboration between jazz and flamenco.
Passionate!.......2007-05-15
This is the best CD I've bought in a while. We play it during painting class and it really gets the creative juices flowing...
A new interpretation for Latin Classics.......2007-03-09
Lagrimas Negras is a beautiful collection of Latin American beats combined with traditional Flamenco sounds. It is a perfect blend of music.
Lagrimas Negras.......2007-02-12
It is quite rare to find an album that can be enjoyed in its entirety, but this happens to be one of them. The genius arragangements of Bebo Valdes accompanied by the moving and impassioned vocals of Cegala are a match that could only be made through divine intervention.
A must have for your music library!.......2007-01-16
I love every single song on this album! Truly a masterpiece!

Amazon.com essential recording
Ottmar Liebert's most famous, if not most accomplished, effort gave a new genre its title, the New Age market a new champion, and flamenco purists--like Paco de Lucia, who despite a thank-you on the album, has called Liebert's music "worthless"--a new punching bag. All of which is a little beside the point; Liebert's rhythms may not be complex compas, but he perfectly captures the laid-back, open-space feel of his adopted home of Santa Fe with simple two-chord progressions and piquant nylon-string guitar lines that remain memorable long after listening. The indelible "Heart Still Beating" and the elegaic "Moon over Trees" bear this out. Liebert would up his technical and compositional ante considerably on Sola Para Ti and Borrasca, but there's still something undeniably balmy about this low-key debut--replete with lush New Agey synthesizer washes--that begs one to light the scented votive candles and get cozy. --James Rotondi

Catch this one!.......2007-06-09
Ottmar Liebert has contributed notably to a second air of the flamenco a heartfelt and moving Spanish rhthym so enjoyed for many people aropund the world.
This album encloses what we might call the real spirit of the flamenco in its different moods. On the contrary, I think this is a gratyfying album, plenty of inspiration and vibrant emotions.
music from my childhood dance years...........2007-06-04
NOVEAU FLAMENCO, by Ottmar Liebert, is an album that brings back memories of jazz dance recitals. We used to warm up to NOVEAU FLAMENCO, particularly the first track, "Barcelona Nights." Liebert has been equally criticized and proclaimed for his laid back approach to "nouveau flamenco." While flamenco purists will most definitely have some cutting remarks to make about this, his debut album, how sleepy and "plugged in" it sounds, others who are just looking for relaxing music that they don't have to think too hard about will definitely enjoy it. For me, this European born, Santa Fe-based musician balances his own jazzy licks with flamenco inspired guitar work, and it works well as back-up music. Would I shell out thirty dollars to see him live? Probably not. Yet, I definitely can't dislike NOUVEAU FLAMENCO's range of songs. While some are peppy, others are great if you are trying to get a good night's sleep. There's nothing wrong with that!
i like flamenco.......2007-01-09
this record, is not the best work from ottmar but it have 3 of th songs i most like from him and also is a hard to get piece (at least in mexico), also i can add that i got it between the dates of the promised shipping
Easy listening.......2006-09-28
I love this CD, I could listen to it all day long. Wonderful flamenco, makes me feel like I am on vacation in Cancun. Great to listen to while vacuuming - really brightens the mood around the house. If you like fabulous guitar flamenco music you will love this.
Truly inspiring !!!.......2006-05-24
I have listened and studied this album over and over again it truly is a work of art. I found it so inspiring that after years and years of bouncing around bands and different musical styles I found my one true love, modern Flamenco. My CD "Changes" would have never been conceived if not for the incredible influence of Ottmar. And for that I say thank you. I hope that everyone will perchance this CD and find the Joy that I have.

one another great cd of this great musician.......2007-05-12
You will listen a real soul of Spain with other influences, Paco de Lucia is not only a great guitar player but he is more, is music is great and this cd is full of great moments of different flamenco.....
good start.......2007-02-13
I found this album while searching for spanish flamenco guitar music and was not disappointed. Since then, I've heard other flamenco guitarists and De Lucia stands alone. His strings sound like rubber as he gracefully, yet powerfully, plays in delicate bursts that still leave me astounded by the enchanted beauty of espana. Every now and then there will come a guitar phrase that blows my mind and this was just what I was looking for. This feeling doesn't stick with me, though. I'm not in Spain and De Lucia is a somewhat cheesy for my taste, but he's probably one of the very best.
Siroco - Falling short of my expectations.......2006-11-04
Not the best Paco in my opinion. You can pass on this one and not miss too much.
INSANE!!!!!!.......2006-10-23
This album made me want to throw my guitars into the fireplace (and I'm not kidding). La Barrossa has to be the finest guitar piece I've ever heard. The word "genius" is often misused on those who really are not. Well...flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia really is. Aside from his rediculously flawless technique, his musical ideas, especially considering the times, are incredibly rich, complex, and just brilliant. Granted, some of Paco's music goes right over my head, and can take a lifetime to disect. This is not music for "flamenco purists." When anything in life runs its course, the universe has a way of shaking it up it (sometimes violently) to keep it in line with its ultimate destiny, neverending growth. Paco de Lucia is that shakeup, and has given us a lifetime of inspiration.
My only quip with this album is the production style. It's in the typical style of most modern flamenco records, drowning everything in reverb. Just my personal preference, I'd prefer a bit more warmth and upfront presence.
I would also highly suggest his Luzia (1998) and Live in America (1993).
Essential for Paco Lovers.......2004-11-01
Paco De lucia is the best guitarest ever in his generation and this album is excellent..u will like it more each time u listen to it...all titles are very good but Gloria Al Nino Ricardo is a ten star rating, one of the best Solea played by Paco de Lucia...infact this album is one of the best albums of Paco...

If you like Ottmar.......2007-01-05
You must own Solo Para Ti. It is his best. This is one of my all time most played CDs - great mood music, great feel-good music, excellent.
A wonderful blend of musical styles and talent!.......2000-12-22
I have long heard of Ottmar Liebert, but to be honest, have never actually heard his music. Then, by chance, I bought this CD. I'm hooked! It's a wonderful collection of music, blending traditional and modern Spanish guitar with light jazz and sensuous flamenco. The music is sometimes mellow, sometimes lively, but always a pleasure to hear. As an added bonus, Liebert is joined on this album by another great guitarist, Carlos Santana -- Samba Pa Ti was written by Carlos and he plays prominently on that. Together, these two great musicians, along with the band, put out some fantastic music. All but one of the songs are instrumental (except for vocal harmonies on Lilac Sun). The one vocal song (with lyrics) is Deep In Your Heart. I'm afraid to say that this was the only disappointing song on the album. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the album, and I don't care for the singing. Otherwise, the album is a gem of great music. I'm planning to buy other Ottmar Liebert albums, now that I know how good he is.
Solo Para Ti.......2000-11-20
I first heard this at a friend's house & just loved it! I now have my own recording. I listen to it to be uplifted & dance.
Meditative and Seductive.......2000-11-17
Ottmar Liebert plays a very good guitar and he wants to share his expertise with a global audience. His music is truly beautiful and very relaxing. When listening to this CD you can partake in just about any activity. If you like to read or have creative endevors this is perfect music that stimulates but does not demand your complete attention. The songs for the most part are very mellow. Lush and lyrical the arraignments are a sophisticated blend of pop flamenco that works. There is an intersting version of the "Marvin Gaye's" classic "Mercy, Mercy, Me". The difference here is that it is sung in Spanish in a flamenco style that would make the deceased Motown artist proud. Lots of good tunes here, with a variety of tempos to keep your interest. One of Lieberts better efforts that he has released over the years, this CD has withstood the test of time. Released in 1992, the fine instrumentation keeps it alive. A highlight from this CD is the duet with Carlos Santana which I never get tired of. The song is 'Samba Pa Ti", originally penned and made famous by Santana. The different arraignment makes it hardly recognizeable as Liebert has taken creative freedom to make something new. The music is enchanting and bordering on mystical inspiration. An excellent addition to any complete collection of nuevo flamenco.
South of the border magic!!.......1998-09-29
A very relaxing album in general. Something to put on while entertaining guests. While the general mood of this music is mellow there is some exciting instrumentation, especially with the dueling guitars of Ottmar Liebert and Carlos Santana on track 5.

This was only the second recording for the Guitar Trio, coming a full 16 years after 1980's Friday Night in San Francisco, but it's a fitting sequel. Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin once again demonstrate extraordinary virtuosity, accelerated runs tumbling over one another until identities blur. Repeated listening, however, starts to focus on the subtle differences in nuance, especially in the compositions. Though DeLucia grew up in a tradition of Spanish flamenco guitar, Brazilian rhythmic touches often appear in his work, beginning with the opening "Estiba." The American Di Meola seems influenced by music of the Middle East ("Beyond the Mirage"), and the English McLaughlin has strong affinities with the music of Northern India, most apparent here in his "Letter from India." Ultimately, the impression of dazzling techniques gives way, revealing the group's deeper empathy. --Adam Rains
Customer Reviews:
Frenetic Jazz Guitar Workouts!.......2007-01-17
This cd is a wonderful release by three of the top Jazz guitarists in the world. John McLaughlin, Al Dimeola, and Paco de Lucia combine their talents to create a compelling, fast paced acoustic bossa nova tinged jazz record. Each song features elegant riffing and frenetic runs up and down the fretboard. This music is lightning captured on disc, and it makes for a sizzling instrumental masterpiece. 5 stars easy!
Stunning?.......2006-05-26
I'm sorry to all the people who've praised this album so far, this was the only album (of the ones that I've owned) by ANY of the three great guitarists that I gave away for free. For those who enjoy the Azzura and Beyond the Mirage renditions found on this album, I can assure you that there exists a better version of each on Al Di Meola's "The Infinite Desire" album ... don't believe me, just go out and listen to this cd. As for Paco De Lucia, with the realease of "Cositas Buenas" he returns to playing the style that he was born for, and to me that is much more rewarding than hearing him on this cd trying to showcase his ability to go hand in hand with the other two guitarists ... quite frankly he's in a league of his own when it comes to the
guitar! As for John McLaughlin he's more mainstream than the other three ... yeah he has more of those over sappy lovey dovy tunes that corrupted North American music throughout his albums. To me he belongs with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, George Lynch ... the G3 style of guitarists. As good as he is technically, I don't think he's on par with the other two guitarists on this album. Sorry for the directness, it's how I felt about this album! That's why it was an easy give-away.
Magnificent, a night to be remembered.......2005-02-14
When this three got together it was a night to remember. Each guitarist has his own style; Paco is pure gypsy passion and speed, Di Meola is creative strnght and improvisation and Maclughlin has that impeccable playing. The three put together is probably the best guitar live show ever, theres something here for everybody. It carries you effortlessly from flamenco to jazz to blues to the Pink Panther theme song without you even noticing it. I can listen to this album time and time again.
Masterful, someone help me out though.......2004-05-12
We all know how brilliant and hard working each of these musicians are and it shows in the music. I fully recommend the album and due to my love for Eastern and more specifically Indian music, I enjoy the piece, "A letter from India" the most. Does someone know where I can get the sheet music to this cd though? I really want to get it and play with some friends of mine but I haven't found any yet. If you know anything, please Email me at Changewiththeseasons@hotmail.com.
Yea, long mail I know.
Brilliant and beautiful..........2003-02-14
"Friday Night in San Francisco" is both among one of the greatest live recordings of all time and among the greatest classical/flamenco guitar recordings ever. The interplay is stunning between John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco De Lucia, three of the greatest musical geniuses of our time (and I do not say that lightly...the music these three produce on their own is always full of rich texture, technical brilliance, and musical quality). This '96 recording, while not possessing the same magic as the "Friday Night..." recording (how could it, when that was one of those magical nights when everything looks, sounds, and FEELS good?), is still a wonderful piece of work. It's clear that between these three guitarists is a rapport that stands the test of time, a collaboration the likes of which most bands can only strive for, that sense of mutual cooperation and enjoyment that just enhances the goodness of the music they make. Each person has their moment to shine, either as a soloist, or as a songwriter. I am partial to "Espiritu" and "Azzura," both penned by Al DiMeola, but the opening track, "La Estiba" by Paco De Lucia tells you, right away from the first notes that this is going to be a beautiful listening experience.
This is the kind of music for any occasion. Need background music for a party? This is perfect. Need to unwind after a long day at work? Or maybe you need something to hear while at work? Pop this in. Need to feel good after feeling bad? This music will do it. This is the kind of album that reminds us why we love music in the first place. Of course nothing can rival or compare to "Friday Night...", but this comes in at a close second, and it should belong in any true music lover's collection.

For four decades, Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia's jazzy, Mephisto-like technique redefined flamenco. This CD, which means "Good Small Things," is de Lucia's first release in five years, and it's been worth the wait. Most of the eight tracks feature just de Lucia, a chorus of vocalists, percussion, and the zesty handclaps called palmas. Lucia and company take you through the Moorish, Jewish, and Gypsy inventions and dimensions of flamenco, from the buleria "Patio Custodio" and the torrid tientos "El Tesorillo" to the moody, mid-tempo buleria por solea "Antonia." Guitarists Juan D' Anyelica and Tomatito join de Lucia on "El Dengue," and "Que Vengo el Alba," which also features a vocal track from the late singer Camaron de la Isla. The last song, "Casa Bernardo," with bassist Alain Perez, jazz trumpeter Jerry Gonzalez, and Latin pop star Alejandro Sanz on the guitar-like tres, foreshadows the future of this ancient and inventive art form. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

I think everyone knows that flamenco is not only guitar playing! but paco is famous because of his brilliant style of playing flamenco guitar...I think he got what he wanted so hes back to the traditional style now and if he continues like this i would say that its time for him to retire!
one more thing i have to add is that if paco previous albums were all similar styles to this one! he would have never been recognised internationaly! just see above the number of used cd's of this album for sale!!its more than 70!! fans are disapointed!
Old reveiw:
Paco is best when he is playing alone(without singers)..he is a 10 star as a guitar player infact he is the best of them all, but this album is nothing compared to the previous one's, but as a paco fan still u should have it.the thing i didnt like was the singers! the good thing was the rumba..the music quality is very good...come on paco give us the old styles..
Great Flamenco .......2004-10-01
5 stars for this album, not for regular "guitar flashing-fast riffs" addicts; more for those looking for depth on arrangement and composition, those searching for the nuevo Flamenco.
In response to "ggprep" comments, a line from Paco's Zyryab: " Si tu no tiene soniquete pa que te mete".
Twilight, Beckoning With Playful Allure.......2004-08-26
There are moments of sheer Music which have the ability
to bring a smile to your heart, and thankful tears to
many an eye. Paco de Lucia, in the time in which he has
graced the world with the wizardry of his art, has
been responsible for many such moments.
"Aires de Linares", "Percussion Flamenca", "Almoraima",
"Montesario de Sal", his stirring sextet take on "El Vito",
his deadly arrangements of Manuel de Falla, his
breathtaking embrace of CONCIERTO DE ARANJUEZ are
but a few of the precious moments by which de Lucia
has inspired the audiences of the world for over
30 years.
Truth to tell, after the captivating triumph of de Lucia's recording
from a few years ago, the incomparable LUZIA, many
wondered if, even for this master of the Flamenco guitar,
there were any more summits left.
COSITAS BUENAS answers that question with a
resounding affirmation of the man, his artistry,
and the Music which empowers all. If LUZIA was
the sunrise sweeping the waiting horizon, COSITAS
BUENAS is the becknoing twilight full of
playful allure, and spirits of renewal.
A masterpiece of both traditional sound and
transitional vision, de Lucia unleashes a beautiful
flurry of cabaret sorcery worthy of the immortal
Sabicas himself. Voices and instrumentalists join
for devout song meant only for the most intimate
celebration, and dedicated participation.
The air is charged with the weavings of Bulerias, Tientos,
Tango and Rumba, with a touch of Solea for special measure.
We are blessed by de Lucia's earthy song and gossamer chant,
its rolling dance and uplifting romance as sobering in scope
and focus as it is exhilirating to experience, and to share.
COSITAS BUENAS. Paco de Lucia and friends, after hours,
brewing good little things which potently deliver The
Big Picture.
Only one thing is needed to fulfill this summoning.
You. Enter cleanly, and know your own will.
Come.
Exquisite musicianship.......2004-07-28
How in your right mind can you not enjoy a Paco De Lucia album? I mean: the guy is a genius and he's helped shape Flamenco for the past 40+ years. This is his first album in a while, and one that pays tribute to the genre that he's so well known for, by sticking to the basics: his guitar, hand clapping and six different vocalists sporting heart tearing voices interpreting his bulerias, rumbas and tientos. My favorite tracks are "Patio Custodio", Antonia" and "Que Venga El Alba". By all means, get yourself a copy and chill out to the best Spanish guitar in the world.

Awesome, seductive and relaxing.......2004-02-09
OMG it couldn't be better. The music is relaxing and seductive at the same time. It is the type of music you can play during a perfect romantic dinner, or the one that you can play while you are working and not get distracted. The guitars are just awesome.
Amazing! Ottmar's greatest triumph!.......2002-06-07
I happen to be quite a Liebert aficianado and I think that this album represents the hands-down best work he has ever done in his career. The haunting beauty of his Spanish guitar is here tempered with a charming lightheartedness that was no doubt inspired by the East-Indian locale. Works such as Neon-Ghost Sensei provide just the right touch of the experimental Ottmar that we experience in Opium. Alternately fiery and mellow, but always beautiful, Ottmar's composition and playing here display their strongest synergy. I HIGHLY recommend it, if you buy just one instrumental album in your life, you're reading its review.
Warm and engaging.......2000-12-08
I am a devoted Ottmar Liebert fan, and have purchased all of his disks. While I savor most, this (I believe his first) remains my favorite.
It is elegant, and rivetting: Soft, sensual, Latin American inspired acoustical guitar. While it might seem the perfect background music for relaxing with a book and a glass of wine, you will find yourself putting down the book and closing your eyes in order to devote your full concentration to appreciating this work.
Well worth it............2000-10-02
I bought this CD based on the strength of the reviews written here, not fully knowing what to expect. Despite the fact that I am a fan and own a copy of Borrasca, a wonderful CD in its own right, I wasn't sure how I would feel about this particular collection. After listening to it only once, I was completely swept away. Unlike the more vibrant and catchy tunes of Borrasca, The Hours Between Day + Night is more mellow, smooth and laced with a very lovely jazz feel that blends seamlessly into a unique sound. With 19 songs, one of which is a Spanish language remake of Marvin Gaye's Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology), it is not only one of the longest CDs this listener has come across, but it's well worth the price. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection. It's well worth it.

The True Escape.......2006-11-06
This is one of those albums that truly carries you through a portal of relaxation to another dimention. A dimension in which you feel as if you were in some bungalow in the middle of Amazon sitting around a fire surrounded by talented guitar players and excellent flamenco dancers. It is truely an escape and a way to leave your world behind and experience true captivation by the sound of the guitar. In my opinion, the artwork on the cover of the album is a true depiction of the passionate music within. I have had this album for more than 10 years and have listened to it at least a 100 times - it just doesn't get old.
Lush Guitars.......2006-05-23
I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys latin flamenco guitar. The music is lush, beautiful, and exotic. It is also great to play for a garden party. I own three Strunz & Farah CDs and they are all awesome but Americas remains my favorite.
GRAND THEFT.......2006-01-07
Can you imagine this??? This is the fifth time I have to buy the CD. Every time my friends leave my house after the party my CD Americas is gone.
No Less Than Five Stars!.......2005-08-06
Strunz and Farah are amazing artists. This album showcases their talent, and proves that they are the best in the business. Do not hesitate to purchase Americas, or Heat of the Sun which I also have and can recommend.
They are always Excellent.......2004-11-01
i am writing an overview for all of their albums cause they are really Excellent..latin flamenco style influenced sometimes by persian composition. Dont hesitate buy any of their albums.

Over The Long Haul.......2007-05-27
I saw S & F more than 10 years ago. They blew me away, then and I purchased many of their CD's since.
Looking over these passing years I can honestly say that they have multi-tons of technique---but there is no fire! I wonder if they ever get tired of playing the guitar?
The usual - excellent!.......2007-03-09
I buy their stuff blind because I am never disappointed and always pleased and amazed as to what next can they possibly come up with.
Fantaseo: another guitar gift from Strunz and Farah.......2006-10-25
The new Strunz and Farah CD "Fantaseo" has just been released from their own Selva label. This is without a doubt one of their most beautiful and seasoned recordings. They show a unity of heart and mind that is totally rare and the province of very few artists in any genre. I recommend it highly and without reservation.
The first cut, "Pasitos" (little steps) seems based on a kind of guajira rhythm, but feels quite Argentine or Cuban. The use of acoustic bass (played brilliantly by Carlitos Del Puerto) adds a deep bottom to the ensemble. Percussionist Joey DeLeon on Congas and Bongos is aided and abetted by the outrageous Cajon playing of Jimmy Branly, Cuban wunderkind percussionist extraordinaire. On violin, as always, the inestimable Charlie Bisharat adds sway and color. The Maldonado guitars are living wood in the hands of the guys.
"Bello Mundo" (Beautiful World) is a Spanish influenced ride through beautiful vistas and moods, wind swept and lush. Strunz has one of his finest solo moments on this piece and, as always, is complemented by the tender hearted Farah. The title piece "Fantaseo" has Farah using steel string and Majid Ghorbanian on Dombak adds drum flavor. The piece has a decidedly Spanish/Gypsy/Middle Eastern mystery to it.
The CD takes a rather remarkable turn at this point. "Southern Seas" is an homage to the beauty and verdance of lush Costa Rica, Jorge Strunz's country of origin. It has a decidedly Andean/South American jungle feel which has Strunz playing a devastating solo. The selection ends with the sound of Costa Rica's great symbol: the birdcalls of that nation.
With "Azure" Jorge Strunz has come full circle to his earliest days with Caldera. This is a piece he had wanted to record for some time with Ardeshir and finally it has seen the light of day. Again, Strunz plays a moody solo that is masterful in its use of space, shade and melody. Gary Meek is fine on Soprano Sax.
We move to the Middle East now with "Fortuneteller", with Farah's other steel string entry. We then arrive at perhaps one of the highlights of Ardeshir Farah's composing career "Navayeh Roosta", a Persian influenced ride almost Medeival in style. Armenian Shvi player Arrarat Petrosian is stunning on this remarkable instrument, a kind of penny whistle with soul. What a piece of music! "El Papelote" has a kind of Venezuelan heartbeat and reminds us again of the brilliance of Jorge Strunz as a composer. The pristine beauty of the Americas and the innocence of nature overall continue to be Jorge's muse. Hubert Laws makes a nice guest appearance on the final cut "Luxuriance" to close out the recording.
This is a seminal work of masters of the guitar who continue to create music that is highly inspired and deeply beautiful. A one of a kind recording

A Modern Classic.......2007-06-27
I am an unabashed fan of good instrumental music that is uncluttered by the spoken word and have been for over forty years. I have heard some magnificent music in that time and this album by this artist is now one of my ten most favourite albums. If you like your music straight with major style and shape then give this album a listen. You will not be disappointed.
FABULOUS.......2005-07-19
Excellent value for the money, great cd, arrived in time for father's day- thank you very much
Jesse's Best.......2003-10-21
This is Jesse at his best. I own all of his CD's, and this is probably my favorite. If you are a guitar player of any style of music, buy this CD-You won't be disappointed. I think every track on this disc is stellar, compositionally and technically, but most importantly, it makes you feel: at first you want to dance, then cry, and sends you to a far off place.
If find this his funnest album yet. If you want a more romantic, softer Jesse Cook album, buy Vertigo.
new flamenco.......2003-07-12
first let me tell you that I think jesse cook is a great guitarist BUT, and this is important; what's up with all the synthesizers? Using flamenco guitar in poppy kinda songs is a great idea but why does every new flamenco artist want to make his music sound like it's from outher space?
A mixed bag.......2001-12-11
Jesse Cook is a superb player but his compositional skills are not on the same level as his playing. For every striking piece there is a throwaway, but on to the good stuff."Mario takes a walk"is signified by its clever walking chords, but is rather empty on the whole."Closer to madness"is very subdued yet tense,a tightrope walked ever so expertly by Cook."Into the dark"is a quite somber piece."Rapture" may be the keeper of the whole disc.It is very tricky and suave, and Cook shows an incredibly light touch. The "Luna LLena" is excellent for late night chillin'.On the whole the cd is good not great, but here's hoping Jesse Cook fully develops his skills as a composer to match his impeccable guitar playing.
