Although, as of this writing, this title is apparently not available on Amazon. I'm happy to say that I found the newly re-mastered cd edition on the shelf at Virgin Megastore yesterday. Aside from narration by the late great Bob Keeshan, there are other reasons to add this to your collection. One, the conduction by the legendary Leopold Stokowski and two, you can also listen to the entire work without narration. Most albums tend to back up the narrated version with other music, usually "Carnival of the Animals." While, I have nothing against narration, it's nice to finally hear the music stand on its own for a change.

My very young daughter and I listened to this performance of Peter and the Wolf several times a week until our 33 rpm vinyl recording wore out. We never tired of it. I have heard other versions of Peter and the Wolf, but Stokowski and the New York Philharmonic were the most inspired in their musical depiction of the various characters in the plot. I am so happy it has been reissued on CD, so my grandchildren can have the same experience. We liked Captain Kangaroos enthusiasm.

It's great for young children........1999-06-04

My children loved Peter and the Wolf with Captain Kangaroo when it was first released and I'm delighted to have found it in CD for my young grandchildren. It was really their first exposure to classical music and we even have audio recordings of our children telling the story with the same inflections as Captain Kangaroo. They played it over and over until they had memorized to whole story!

Captain Kangaroo ruins this one... He is over enthusiastic, loud and artificially animated in the narration. The music and story are great. Would love to find another cut with a less obnoxious narrator....
