5 out of 5 stars Una seleccion sin igual..........2005-03-29

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Pianist.......2004-07-05

It's difficult to find one pianist playing these works so clearly . Werner Haas is a fantastic example of a complete pianist. He plays everything so clear that you have the impression that you can " take with the hands" all the notes. His tempi are very well chosen and we have the impression, after hearing these Cds , that we can have more passionate pianists ( like Gielels and Argerich) but rare are the pianists with a so acute sense of precision and clarity. The Orchestra is no more than correct , and the sound of the first oboe in the first concert is really ugly. But the conductor follows every step of the pianist with the same sense of objectivity and clarity. I'm really very glad to hear these passionate and heavy concerts with this sense of transparence. I must remark the excellents soloists of the second concert's slow movement.

3 out of 5 stars Worthwhile for the rare "Andante & Finale"........1999-10-30

While this orchestra sounds rather small and the sound is thus rather thin, the performances are quite listenable if not extraordinary. The gem here is the rarely recorded Op.79, which was actually completed by Taneyev to his master's sketches. Since it was originally intended to be the second & third movements to what we now know as the Third Concerto (Op.75), it is fortunate that the work immediately follows the Concerto on the same disc. Listen to Op.75 and Op.79 together and I think you'll find the combination to make a surprisingly effective work.
