Gold Coast Cure's Review.......2007-04-01
I found this product to be extremely helpful. It has lots of pertinent information on losing weight and eating smart. I really like the exercise program in there as well. The menu for the meals is a little hard for me to follow with my family lifestyle. It doesn't give me much to time cook extra special meals for myself and we spend too much on groceries right now as it is. But I can at least incorporate some items here and there and I guess that is better than nothing.
This is not a diet. It's a lifestyle........2007-01-11
The "Gold Coast Cure's Fitter Firmer Faster Program" is a terrific book. It's not a quick fix fad, although most people will no doubt experience noticeable changes in just a few weeks.
The Larson's first book, Gold Coast Cure, went into great detail about Ivy's turn from poor health while battling MS to great health and a reversal of symptoms. The new book is less clinical and more user-friendly.
The Larsons prescribe a whole foods diet and explain in conversational style what that means and how we can all work it into our lives with little effort. They don't expect anyone---themselves included---to be perfect, so there are allowances for real life (including alcohol). However, they make sure you know how to eat for a better life no matter where you are.
The book also explains easy ways to make children eat a healthier diet, and if you've read any recent studies on obesity rates for childen, you know a change is needed. Ivy includes recipes for meals and snacks, and none take longer than 30 minutes. There is also a "Fit Foods" shopping guide.
The fitness component is 30 minutes, 3 times a week. It's circuit training that can be done at home or in a gym. They also add an outdoor workout for the park or vacation. The workouts include strength training (several methods), cardio bursts for metabolism and fitness gains, Pilates, Yoga, calisthenics, and traditional stretching. The workouts can be made harder or easier depending on your age and fitness level. Unlike many authors, whose pictures leave you wondering if they follow their own advice, Andrew (who is a surgeon) looks fit and muscular, but not in an overdone way. He demonstrates many of the exercises. Ivy, who is a fitness instructor, looks like she could still captain the Florida Gators cheerleading squad.
The Larsons also include a rather involved supplement program, but none of the six pills is expensive. The reasons for these six are explained in much greater detail in their first book.
What comes across throughout is that these two really care. To that end, I wrote the Larsons on their Web site to ask for a fitness circuit that would work better in a "manly" gym setting. Ivy responded the same day with a full program and great detail. The circuit kicked my butt too. She also wrote to say she'll add it to the blog, and then followed up with an e-mail to ask me how it worked. I already bought the book, so she genuinely cared about my results with her advice.
Bottom line: eat whole foods, take smart supplements, work out hard but briefly three times a week. This book shows how to do it.

Jason Moss was a very strange boy: an overachiever, always looking for some challenge, some new way to excel. In his studies, in sports, and, for some reason that he can never explain comprehensibly, seducing serial killers into telling him their secrets. His first "project" was John Wayne Gacy. Moss sent carefully crafted letters to Gacy in which he portrayed himself as a young, naive, insecure gay man who could be easily manipulated. Gacy was suspicious and put Moss through harrowing emotional tests before surrendering his trust, but Moss came out ahead. Gacy fell head over heels for Moss, replying with graphic and disturbing letters instructing him to commit depraved acts for Gacy's vicarious thrills. Moss led him on, convincing Gacy that he was doing these things, but somehow this victory wasn't sufficient. So he extended his efforts to include other jailed killers. Although he experienced some success, amassing a disturbing collection of documents--including detailed sexual prose from Jeffrey Dahmer, disjointed ramblings from Charles Manson, and awkward, violent illustrations from "Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez--his closest relationship was always with Gacy, whom he eventually visited in prison, where even the unflappable Moss learned fear.
The Last Victim challenges the reader to understand not only the twisted psychology of serial killers who kill for pleasure but why and how a young, seemingly bright and healthy young man such as Jason Moss could create such elaborate schemes to ingratiate himself with them. Moss puts his own safety and well-being on the line time and time again, simply to gain these men's trust, to coerce from them some understanding of what makes them do the things they do. And the book gives readers the opportunity to gain this insight without providing serial killers their home addresses--not a bad deal, overall. --Lisa Higgins
Book Description
Charles Manson. Jeffrey Dahmer. John Wayne Gacy. Richard Ramirez. Serial killers; arguably the most terrifying criminals in the world. Jason Moss, a brilliant 18-year-old student contacted these killers and mimicked the profiles of their ideal victims and disciples in an effort to get them to open up. It worked. Through taped conversations and reams of correspondence (including drawings and birthday cards), the convicts gave him an unprecedented guided tour of their depraved worlds, culminating with Moss bizarre prison visit to an unguarded John Wayne Gacy who staked out Moss as his last victim.
Customer Reviews:
Mediocre - At Best.......2007-05-06
This book is certainly not the worst True Crime book I have ever read. However, it presents with some obvious problems. It is NOT a journey into the mind of serial killer as much as a journey into the mind of the author. Much of the book is about the author himself and his own thoughts. While the book is organized and understandable, the style of writing is rather juvenile and lacking in depth. That said, the prison visits Mr. Moss had with Gacy were interesting and somewhat frightening; it is difficult to believe that prison guards were willing to leave the author alone with Gacy for periods of time long enough to constitue danger for the author. However, this is what happened. The last scheduled visit with Gacy truly scared the author and he never returned.
I knew the author of this book, having met him when he applied to be a Big Brother in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a True Crime fan, I did not find his interest in serial killers disturbing or exceptional. However, it is a bit odd that he found it necessary to correspond with so many of the high profile serial killers. During a routine "home visit" to his apartment as part of the Big Brother screening and application process, Mr. Moss showed me his album of response letters from many other serial killers, includig Charles Manson and Richard Ramirez. (I enjoy True Crime, but this was a bit too close for comfort for me.) If my recollections are correct, he did serve as a good Big Brother to a little boy who needed a male mentor. He did not present as narcissistic... although the tone of his book is self aggrandizing. However, perhaps Mr. Moss was less stable than he appeared at times. Another reviewer states the author took his own life. Somehow, this does not completely surprise me.
Terrible Book!.......2007-04-21
The author apparently had alot of spare time to mess with serial killers. All poor Jeff Dahmer needed was to be loved.
Too bad John Wayne Gacy didn't make soup out of the author.
The worst of all the books on serial killers I've read.
I wanted to use no stars, but, I had to choose one :(
Simply Awful.......2006-10-24
Don't waste your time. This book is more about Jason Moss and his egomania then it is about serial killers. It did not offer any new insight or information at all.
The Last Victim Revisited.......2006-07-17
I read this book when it was originally published. I knew the author and his family quite well so my mind was probably more receptive to it being a "great" book. Alas, upon re-reading it, I realize that it is not a "great" book at all but a fairly mediocre one. It is obviously written by a "first time" author and has an almost child-like narrative form. To give credit where it is due, however, it is nonetheless, disturbing and the guy had guts. I am sad to report that the author took his own life in early June of this year. That is the reason that I decided to read this book again to see if I could find any insight into why he would do this tragic thing...I think I did.
A HUGE disapointment.......2005-09-26
This book and the person who wrote it. Ok so he crossed the line of writting and face-to-face with some of life's most horrible people. But that was about the excitment end for me. Not only does he like himself alot by doing this book the way he did, it is porely written and has nothing to do with real investigative journalism. sorry I spent money for the book and contacting him.

Ignore the Title and Cover.......2007-03-13
As his earlier books were, this one, properly sub-titled "Reversible Vitamin Deficiency Found to be Origin of ALL Coronary Heart Disease", is excellent, both in its organization by type of ailment and the depth of references, about 650 of them, mostly to medical journals. No index. Still it is easy to read, and has the evidence for the value of taking vitamin C . Back cover says: "Coronary Heart Disease is Arterial Scurvy" and as we all know, scurvy is the result of too little vitamin C.
There are 29 short chapters, the last being practical suggestions, mostly easy to apply, for good cardio health. No index. So from p22: "So, prepare to be amazed, especially if you are a health care practitioner who has always felt that atherosclerosis is largely an unstoppable and steadily progressive disease. It is not... Turn an abnormal coronary angiogram into a normal one...
From p200: "As also noted earlier in the section on cholesterol, low cholesterol levels have also been shown in multiple studies to be strongly correlated with an increased chance of getting cancer or dying from cancer.
An excellent work with that incredibly thorough literature search. Again, the text is very easy to read.
On p253-4, the amount of vitamin C recommended daily is 3 to 9 grams. Three dozen other supplements are recommeded as well, and, in my opinion, are very well chosen, but a pain to take separately. Then: "Not that the above recommendations do not include calcium. Much of the atherosclerosis "epidemic" seen today is strongly fueled by the indiscriminate supplementation of calcium. Osteoporosis is readily treated effectively with the regimen as noted above, and with the exception of rare metabolic disorders, the supplementation of calcium is neve recommended." Amen!

Customer Reviews:
Killer Body.......2004-08-21
Author Bonnie Hearn Hill deftly leads the reader through a maze of mystery and intrigue in her novel about women's obsession with weight. Killer Body is a carefully woven, well crafted plot that comes together in a smashing finish. It is a character-driven story that will keep the reader turning pages deep into the night. Hearn Hill has taken a major social issue and molded it into a mystery that cries out to be read. Don't miss this one, it's a winner.
an unique writing style.......2004-04-19
The author divides the book up by writing from the different characters' perspective. There is an underlying romantic storyline that gives the story more depth. The ending will surprise you.
A Class Act in Suspense.......2004-02-29
A well-written treat in suspense, and hard to put down after you start reading. The author does a terrific job of getting into the troubled heads of each of the three Killer Body contestants, using their personal issues with food and body image. The reporter looking outside in while investigating the Killer Body organization provides another point of view, giving a different perspective on the quest to be thin at all costs. This author clearly did her research into the dark side of the weight loss- body perfection industry, and its dangerous toys. I also didn't know who had done it until the end of the novel. Don't wait, read KILLER BODY today.
Killer Body delivers.......2004-02-02
Like her novel, Intern, Bonnie Hearn Hill delivers a page-turning story that draws the reader in from the very beginning. Unable to put the book down for long periods of time, Hearn Hill's characters reasonated off of the pages, leaving the reader wanting to know more. As the story unfolds, topics such as bulima, anorexia and a myriad of ways to lose weight are interjected, yet not so overpowering that the reader feels lectured to, but comes away feeling a sense of loss for what the characters would endure to get that "killer body". A highly enjoyable novel about topics close to many people's hearts, Killer Body is sure to be a best-seller.
terse romantic thriller.......2004-02-01
At the funeral of her cousin, Lisa Tilton, her Aunt Carey says that Killer Body murdered her healthy daughter. Aunt Carey pleads with her niece Valley Voice reporter Rikki Fitzpatrick to investigate the death and the company. Though she would prefer to say no, Rikki would do anything for her beloved aunt who raised her. Rikki arranges with her editor to make inquiries and write a story about Killer Body without revealing the personal aspects.
At the Killer Body Clinic, Rikki meets the three contestants competing to replace the missing spokesperson Julie Larimore. Over the hill actress Rochelle McArthur, divorced Princess Gabrielle Paquette, and overweight Tania Camp each has a reason to obtain the job. As Rikki keeps digging, she finds herself attracted to marketing director Lucas Morrison, but though he reciprocates he remains suspicious of her motives. Soon Rikki's findings lead to danger with only Lucas to keep her safe if she only trusts him.
Though the suspense takes a long time to really kick in, readers will enjoy this terse romantic thriller. The cast is solid, not just the lead couple. Fans will easily delineate between the three rivals for the modeling job and understand what makes the elderly Killer Body owner Bobby W tick. Still the tale belongs to Rikki and Lucas, whose love may not prove strong enough to keep her alive.

Book Description
In the universe of whales, orcas are definitely stars. Beautiful, graceful, friendly, awesome in their size, strength and intellect, they amaze everyone who sees them. Yet with all the fame, the study and the interest, orcas remain fundamentally mysterious. What if you could ask them what you would most like to know and have them answer you directly?
You can, and they did.
Communicating with Orcas - The Whales' Perspective is the true story of an amazing journey into the unknown world of orcas by two curious and dedicated women. Written by a respected whale naturalist and professional animal communicator, Mary J. Getten, takes the reader on a voyage with her and a colleague. Together they use their telepathic skills and communication abilities to interview wild and captive orcas including Granny, a 90 year old whale the scientists call J2.
This is a book like no other. It is a captivating story of an encounter between two open-minded, seeking women with a wise elder who calls them her daughters, even when she is describing the horrendous whale captures of the 60's and 70's. It explores the many mysteries of orca life, providing some answers and suggesting many areas for future research. It is a moving description of a close family group, where all members travel, work, eat, play and even sleep as a family. Most of all, it takes you inside their world allowing you to see things from their perspective and to understand another way of life - the orca way.

Telling it like it is!.......2007-06-27
The book came within 5 days Yeah!!! It was in perfect condition. This is a great read!
Time to suspend judgement.......2006-11-01
This is well worth the read if only to gain information about the pods of Orcas that are resident around the San Juan Islands. But well beyond that, whether or not one accepts the author's ability to communicate with the orcas, what she relates about the wisdom of whales (primarily Granny, the 90+year old leader of J pod) is a wake-up call for humanity.
Makes for fascinating reading........2006-10-15
Whale naturalist and animal communicator Mary Getten goes beyond what other research has achieved in the way of whale study and communication processes: in 1991 she studied the J-Pod, a family of whales off Washington State. Her contention that they use direct telepathic communication between themselves and can do so with humans also makes for fascinating reading.

Communicating With Orcas - The Whales Perspective.......2006-09-08
I found this book amazing. I'm from Michigan and we "Michiganders" tend to think about lakes not oceans. This book opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about the world. It also made me start to think about the oceans creatures in more than just a "far away" way. If you do believe in animal communiation you will find this book to be a wonderfully different type of perspective. If you think animal communication is a "bunch of nonsense" this book may seem really strange to you, but it also makes you start to think "What if the whales do think, What if other animals think, what would they think of us and our running, running rather than enjoying and loving life" I highly recommend this book to all!!
Can you believe?.......2006-08-06
This book contains some 25 chapters of a woman and a female Orca communicating telepathically. It changed my entire perspective on animal intelligence, and opened me to greater human possibilities that I had been denying but now know are possible.
So dont listen to the nay-sayers. Pick up this book and decide for yourself what you really think about this phenomenon.

It's a killer book.......2006-12-02
Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (11/06)
"Body Count" is a collection of short stories pertaining to murder. In each story, author Darrell Jones takes us into someone else's life. The outcome is always murder and in most cases it is really wrong, but not always. Some of the murder victims actually deserve to die, like in the case of a young girl that kills her abusive father. In that story, you root for the girl. Sometimes they get caught, but usually they don't. I really enjoyed Jones creative take on this subject. The humor is definitely dark, yet the stories are compelling.
Jones has a gift for taking the reader right into his story. I have not seen this happen with very many short stories that I have read. Usually, the story starts and stops before I am pulled into it. In this book, I was immediately drawn into the plot and was able to clearly see what was going on. I really enjoyed the stories and was amazed at the creative ideas that the author came up with for each plot. Each short story has its own flavor and theme. There are no repetitious sounding stories to bore you. Several of the stories are noted to have received distinctions or recognition in competitions. When you read them, you will understand why.
"Body Count" is only 143 pages. It is the perfect book for someone that doesn't have a lot of time to read but really needs an escape. Because the stories are short, you can finish one and pick the book up at any time in the future and not be lost. It is also a great book to travel with. I think that readers groups would also enjoy discussing these stories. There would definitely be some animated conversations about the creativity in each story. I couldn't help but appreciate the deviousness employed in some of the plots. From start to finish "Body Count" is a winner.

Darrell James consistently crosses the lines of madness and murderous intentions adding a dash of humor for a unique insight into human nature. This collection shows his range, he does not dissapoint. Watch for more work from James, I expect to see future works among the "Bestsellers" lists.
