Book Description
In a shadow world of secrets, lies, and hidden agendas, Detective Sergeant Rebecca Frye and her lover, Dr. Catherine Rawlings, join forces once again in the elusive search for justice.
Rebecca is aided in her struggle to uncover a pornography ring and expose its connections to a traitor within the police department by a rag-tag team of dedicated cops and civilians: JT Sloan, a cybersleuth committed to avenging her lover's devastating injury, who walks the fine line between justice and revenge; Dellon Mitchell, a young police officer who discovers an unforeseen talent for undercover work; and Sandy, a prostitute who develops an unexpected passion for cops. Ultimately, this secret investigation may risk not just their careers, but may cost one their life.
A police procedural with a strong ensemble cast of lovers, partners, and friends that emphasizes the changing and challenging relationships between the characters as much as the action/intrigue. This series satisfies lovers of both nonstop action as well as heart-stopping romance.
Customer Reviews:
Justice in the Shadows.......2006-12-20
I enjoy reading all of Radclyffe's books. Excellent story and strong characters.
Love this whole series!.......2006-08-21
Another hit by Radclyffe. This series needs to be made into a movie. I would certainly be in line to see it!
Justice Series Prevails.......2006-07-31
Det. Sgt. Frye and Dr. Rawling are joined by cyber gurus Sloan & Jason/Jasmin plus their significant others Michael & Sarah from the Trust Series. Officer Dell Mitchell joins the team.
Will they find the porn ring? Who killed Frye's partner, Jeff.
You know this is gonna be hot just from the cast of characters. This just sizzles.
Another Excellent Entry in the Justice Series.......2006-04-25
This outing in the series is less about Detective Sergeant Rebecca Frye and Dr. Catherine Rawlings and more about the minor characters who were introduced in previous outings. In this book, Rebecca is still trying to find the person who ordered the killing of her partner, Jeff Cruz, and another cop, who may be the same bad guy who ordered the hit on her friend JT Sloan (the hitman mistook Sloan's lover Michael for Sloan and nearly killed the wrong woman and Sloan wants revenge), and who may be the head of a porn ring plagueing Philadelphia. She has an unofficial official team working away from police headquarters trying to track down the perps. And a strange team it is - but they all work well together and make headway.
There is less intensity in the romance department - although Radclyffe does not ignore the romance - it doesn't take center stage as it did in the first book of the series. This book is more of police procedural - good old fashioned mystery - and an excellent one at that.
There are enough twists and turns in this book to satisfy any mystery fan, and the author, like any good mystery writer, doesn't keep the clues from the reader. But, in the end, the villain that Rebecca's team is searching for eludes them still.
This is an excellent entry in an equally excellent series by an excellent writer (can you tell I'm a big fan of this series?).
Review of "Justice in the Shadows" by Cheri Rosenberg.......2005-05-27
"Justice in the Shadows," by award winning author Radclyffe, is the fourth action-packed mystery in the Justice series following the engrossing prequels, "A Matter of Trust," "Shield of Justice," and "In Pursuit of Justice." To her credit and her fans delight, Radclyffe has successfully produced another wonderful addition to her impressive writing résumé. She is the author of twenty (and counting) published novels. Her writing is posted on-line, included in anthologies, and is available in other venues. Not surprisingly, "Justice in the Shadows" is a 2005 Golden Crown Literary Society award finalist.
In the latest Justice book, two cops have been assassinated, a young girl is dead, and an innocent woman lies in a coma, all the result of a child pornography ring. Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) Detective Sergeant Rebecca Frye wants to find out who is behind the murders of her partner Jeff Cruz, Officer Jimmy Hogan, a young prostitute, and the attempted murder of J.T. Sloan...that is until Clark Avery, the Justice Department Investigator, pulls the plug on the investigation. Something reeks of an inside job and Rebecca Frye will not rest until justice is done; she does not intend to add the unsolved case to the dead pile. Captain Henry gives the okay for Frye to head her own secret task force to see what she can uncover.
Rebecca puts together a team of unlikely candidates including her new partner, Detective William Watts, internet sleuth J.T. Sloan, and Sloan's business associate Jason McBride. Other members of her team include rookie cop, Dellon Mitchell; young prostitute and certified informant, Sandy; and Rebecca's lover, PPD psychiatrist Dr. Catherine Rawlings. With a great cast of characters, the reader can't help but root for each one. Sloan's lover, Michael Lassiter, lies in a coma after she becomes a mistaken target meant for Sloan...who will go to any lengths to avenge her attackers.
Radclyffe is a master at combining intense police drama and mystery along with an in-depth look at three loving and fulfilling lesbian relationships. She keeps the reader interested, excited, and guessing; it's hard to put the book down. As always, Radclyffe's work has compelling narrative, enough conflict and drama to sustain the story, unforgettable characters, natural sounding and credible dialogue. In addition, her writing is a perfect example of how sex does not get in the way of the plot; the sex scenes move the plot along and add depth to her characters. The author shows us the tough exterior of Rebecca when she is commanding her team, then contrasts that with her tender side when she makes love to her soul mate, Catherine. The same can be said about the budding relationship between Mitchell and Sandy. Mitchell is a hotheaded young cop, while Sandy is a street wise, smart mouthed kid. The growth of these two characters is particularly captivating.
As in all good series, several major story lines are resolved, while a few loose threads remain to keep us on edge for the next book in this series. I'm looking forward to the continuing adventures when "Justice Served" comes out June 2005. I recommend Radclyffe's "Justice in the Shadows" to anyone who enjoys intense crime stories with lots of intrigue, and with hot sex thrown in for good measure. If you like this kind of drama, don't miss "Justice in the Shadows"...a five star novel.

This is a superb book.......2007-02-01
The narrative style of this book, along with the balance of stories, research and analysis, makes for easy, informative and compelling reading. The book addresses a long ignored part of the impact of the death penalty: the families of those charged, convicted and executed. For anyone interested in the death penalty, restorative justice or simply in the lives of many of the worst off in our society, this book offers unique and essential information and insight about the effects executions have on those involved.

Book Description
Anne Griffiths originally went to Botswana to establish a university course in family law. But independent fieldwork in Botswana convinced her of the central role of the traditional customary legal system that stands alongside the colonial common law of courts and magistrates she was examining in her course. In the first comparative work on these two systems, Griffiths shows how the structure of both legal institutions is based on power and gender relations that heavily favor males.
Griffiths's analysis is based on careful observation of how people actually experience the law as well as the more standard tools of statutes and cases familiar to Western legal scholars. She explains how women's access to law is determined by social relations over which they have little control. In this powerful feminist critique of law and anthropology, Griffiths shows how law and custom are inseparable for Kwena women. Both colonial common law and customary law pose comparable and constant challenges to Kwena women's attempts to improve their positions in society.

Book Description
The first novel in the new line of fiction, Great Stories from Great Lawyers, Told through the eyes of a fictional Miami criminal court judge. The courtroom scenes crackle with the ring of truth. Written by a leading Miami defense lawyer, this page-turner draws on his many years of working inside the criminal justice system.
Customer Reviews:
A Worthy Selection by the ABA Criminal Justice Section.......2005-08-25
Although I get the impression that the ABA choose this book for the general reader in order to cast some illumination on the criminal justice system, as a practicing prosecutor who enjoys this genre but finds little time to read it, I enjoyed this story very much and recommend it to the guild of prosecutors, especially assistant district attorneys. It is more in the style of Turow rather than Grisham, it is relatively short for the busy reader, and it treats the drug trial accurately, for I myself have tried drug possession cases and have dealt with the issue of knowing possession before a jury. I am going to recommend it to all my fellow prosecutors in my office.
Legal treat.......2004-12-05
The Shadow of Justice is a tantalizing beginning for a new author. One can hardly wait to turn the pages to find out what happens next to Judge Clark and his cohorts in the Miami legal scene. The interspersing of cultural nuances that are so mandatory to the flavor of the city only whet one's appetite for the story to follow. Full of surprises, this book had me interested from the beginning to the end. Can't wait for the next book.
Uncertainty and ambiguity, clearly evoked.......2004-11-16
A terrific novel. The main characters - the Miami trial judge who writes the first person narrative, a criminal defense lawyer whose moral ambiguity conflicts with his lawyerly competence and obligations, and a police officer (who, though dead as the novel begins, is brought to life through the recollections of the judge and attorney) - are as well crafted as the apparently simple plot, which leads to a complex moral dilemma and an unexpected, but understandable outcome. Equally well depicted are the tension between what law requires and justice demands, the scruffy not-quite-dignity of Miami's trial courts, and the course of a brief, "routine" drug possession trial, the intersection where the book's characters and themes collide. The book's lawyer-author clears away the resulting wreckage with skill and insight, while leading the reader to ponder what he would have done, had he been in the place of each of the three main characters as they chose the paths that the book has them follow.
A Rare Treat.......2004-10-29
Hirsch has written a wonderful legal thriller. In The Shadow of Justice, a Miami judge must confront the incomprehensible, violent crime of one dear friend and the awful corruption of another. The intelligent narrative works as an exceptionally fast-paced suspense novel and an excellent primer on criminal law. It's not often one gets an inside look into the seamy side of Miami from such a literate storyteller, one who quotes Tennyson and Proverbs with equal finesse. A terrific read!

A returning student's review.......2002-12-10
This book was extremely enlightening and engrossing. It reveals many startling details about an assassination that in the public's mind is an open and shut case. This book will make you re-examine what you think you know about the murder of Robert F. Kennedy. It is a fascinating and disturbing look into the mishandling of the investigation as well as the trial of Sirhan Sirhan.
Surely Surly Sirhan.......2001-09-08
Klaber stands alone in his remarkable attention to detail and his insightful intuition as he dissects Sirhan, the assassination and all the people and events surrounding it. Investigative journalism at its finest; with no sides taken, no leaf unturned/unflipped/unanalyzed and certainly no minds unchallenged.
Klaber's wired-in work makes all the others' works putter off into nattering nabobs of nonsensical noise as he delicately delves into this June 4, 1968 seminal tragedy. Klaber kooks the krime and katers to only the most diskriminating kats.
What's Klaber writing about now?
A Must Read.......2000-05-05
I literally tore through this book. I couldn't put it down. Fascinating and frustrating with regards to the failure of the justice system.
READ THIS BOOK. YOU'LL LOVE IT!.......1999-04-21
I thought this book was a great read. Not only was the book educational, it was also a very entertaining read. I dont think I have ever read such an entertaining non-fiction book in my life. The book realy tells it how it is. It lets you know the facts about how crooked our justice system is, and how powerful our government is. I would like to say "Thank you" to Mr. Klaber for writing such an enlightening book. I would now, after reading this book, rate Klaber up there with the other great writers of our time. This book is a must read, five star acomplishment, and possibly one of the best books I have ever read.
