Since Robert's Rules of Order first was published in 1896, it's been the means to orderly, smooth, and fairly conducted meetings. This ninth edition of the famous manual of parliamentary procedure includes everything from the first edition, but all of the information is clarified, cross-referenced, and carefully indexed. "Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty," said General Henry M. Robert, and his gift of order is as indispensable now as it was a century ago.
Book Description
The only authorized parliamentary procedure guide, completely revised and updated by the authorized Robert's Rules Authorship Committee.
Originally published as a slim document in 1896, General Henry M. Robert's classic guide to smooth, orderly, and fairly conducted meetings has sold close to five million copies in nine editions. The only book containing the completely developed Robert's Rules of Order subject matter, this latest edition will continue the book's reputation as the gold standard of meeting procedure for parliamentarians and novice club presidents and members alike. Thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the past decade's technological advances and usage, this tenth edition contains new information on how to conduct meetings over the Internet, on phone and video conference calls, and with members in absentia. The best book from which to learn all about running and taking an effective part in meetings, General Robert's gift of order is as indispensable now as it was a century ago.

Don't hold a board meeting without it!.......2007-05-13
Very useful resource. The best way to ensure a sucessful meeting is to have this book within reach! Information contained therein turns gray areas encountered during meetings into black and white ones!
Robert's Rules of Order (Newly Revised, 10th Edition).......2007-05-07
An excellent and detailed guide. I only found one instance not covered by it: What does it take to rescind a previous motion requiring a two thirds vote to pass? The requirements in the book only speak about a motion being rescinded by a two thirds vote if it was not in the agenda of the meeting; but requiring only a majority vote if it was in the agenda of the meeting. Otherwise, this book covers everything and is an essential guide to parliamentary proceedings.
Opinion from New Zealand.......2007-04-05
Robert's Rules of Order 10th edition is now a valuable resource for our organisation. It would be good for any not-for-profit organisation. I got one of the earlier editions out from a library in Wellington, New Zealand; it was so authoritative that I then ordered four copies from Amazon. The 10th edition is greatly improved, both in terms of greater clarity and scope. It is the best authority I could find anywhere in the world. It is adapted from early English parliamentary rules.
Robert's Rules is wonderful if you need to instil order in an unruly organisation meeting. In my case, it enabled us to run a successful AGM, where before the AGMs had been very unpleasant for all involved. Robert's Rules is both concise and complete. The writer had good common sense and the rules are persuasive and easily adaptable to any given situation...
I would recommend this book to any organisation requiring strengthening in its meeting procedures!
Buy this one first........2007-02-24
This is THE book. Even if you use other guides to Robert's Rules, you have to have this book. Buy it first. If you can't follow it, then look at guides.
For parliamentarians.......2007-02-21
The latest Robert's is a must for parliamentarians. Thicker than the last edition, quite a list of changes.

Book Description
In the next few years, the world's senior generation will pass on some ten trillion dollars--more than the value of all the companies listed on today's stock exchange--to their heirs. Much of this unprecedented transfer of wealth will take the form of trusts. But the old Prudent Man Rule that trustees have followed for generations has been scrapped, and the new Prudent Investor Rule, which now applies in most states, drastically changes the way trusts must be operated. Trustees cannot hope to learn "on the job": today's investment principles and portfolio management techniques are too demanding. With Investing and Managing Trusts under the New Prudent Investor Rule, Train and Melfe show trustees how to manage trusts according to this important new Rule.
Many current and future trustees are unfamiliar with the far-reaching provisions of the new Prudent Investor Rule, which should soon govern trust investing in all fifty states. Investing and Managing Trusts under the New Prudent Investor Rule explains the investment and administrative obligations--as well as the new liberties--imposed by this stringent Rule.
John Train, an authority on building wealth, brings his deep knowledge and dry wit to this thorough guide, in collaboration with Thomas Melfe, eminent New York trusts and estates attorney. Train and Melfe also highlight the various forms of trusts and the major suitable and unsuitable types of investments, so that family trustees, as well as readers in the investment and trust business, law, and financial planning can understand the key strategic and managerial considerations.
This practical, straightforward guide--the first comprehensive discussion of the new Prudent Investor Rule for private trustees-comes complete with useful sample forms, management guidelines, checklists, and a glossary. It is an essential reference for all professional and family trustees as well as their legal and financial advisors.

Book Description
Complete strategy guide for prosecuting patents-and overcoming rejections.
Overcome adverse actions, objections, or final rejection of your patent application with this complete strategy guide.
Patent Prosecution: Law, Practice, and Procedure, is the new title of Patent Prosecution: Practice and Procedure Before the U.S. Patent Office. This new Fourth Edition is the same indispensable treatise written by nationally known and respected author, Irah H. Donner. The new title reflects the treatise's decade-long transition from a purely prosecution-oriented legal reference to a broader resource that is equally strong in its analysis of patent case law, in an era when even subtle distinctions by the courts can mean the difference between success and failure in a patent infringement challenge. The Fourth Edition of Mr. Donner's book provides both the guidance attorneys need to prosecute strong patents before the PTO and the analysis litigators will use to track and understand how the courts interpret patent claims at trial.
Patent Prosecution: Law, Practice, and Procedure, is the only source that gives you an element-by-element analysis of the substantive areas of patent law that form the basis of common rejections and objections you get from the U.S. Patent Office. The new Fourth Edition also provides guidance regarding a variety of substantive areas of patent law useful for litigators, such as patent claim interpretations, prosecution history estoppel issues, means-plus-function claim issues, and patent validity.
Applying years of research and practical experience, the author classifies a wide variety of Patent Office rejections and delivers proven response strategies to you, based on U.S. patent law and essential aspects of the prima facie case of unpatentability: utility, anticipation, obviousness, mathematical algorithms, business methods, priority, double patenting, enablement, best mode, and written description.
The Fourth Edition also includes a new chapter on attorney opinions, such as patentability, noninfringement, and invalidity.
The new edition of Patent Prosecution also addresses various significant changes in U.S. patent law as a result of recent decisions and statutory amendments, including:
Patent Office procedure that nonpublication request requires affirmative intent by the applicant that the application will not be the subject of a foreign application requiring 18-month publication Phillips v. AWH Corp., where the Federal Circuit will rehear en banc its earlier decision regarding the general rules for patent claim construction The Toro Company v. White Consolidated Industries, Inc., where the Federal Circuit held that the disclosure-dedication rule is a question of law to be determined by a court and not a jury, and that subjective intent by the patentee is irrelevant Campbell Plastics Engineering & Mfg., Inc. v. Brownlee, where the Federal Circuit held that Campbell Plastics failed to comply with the Federal Acquisition Regulations ("FARs") invention disclosure provisions under the Bayh-Dole Act, and therefore forfeited title to the invention Knorr-Bremse v. Dana Corp., where the Federal Circuit reversed, en banc, the long-standing precedent of drawing an adverse inference for failure to obtain or produce an exculpatory opinion of counsel Includes Case Digest in Softcover and on CD!
The accompanying Case Digest (in softcover volume and in Microsoft® Word 2000* format) gives you access to precedential language, organized by specific issue, in favor of patentability. The 2005 Case Digest contains excerpts from leading cases through December 31, 2004, including In re Klopfenstein, In re Wallach, In re Curtis, In re Beasley, SmithKline Beecham Corp. v. Apotex Corp., Knorr-Bremse v. Dana Corp., and Toro Co. v. White Consolidated Industries, Inc.

Great single source for U.S. patent prosecution.......2006-08-25
I graduated law school with honors in intellectual property. I have had the opportunity to read a number of textbooks on patents and patent law. These materials by Donner, the two volume set plus the softcover digest and CD, are the best single source of information on prosecuting a patent (trying to get a patent approved) in the U.S. that I've ever come across. I bought it hoping it would help in a particular prosecution I was involved in, and sure enough, Donner delivered. I think this set should be on the bookshelf of any patent agent or patent attorney.

Book Description
"One of the great political works of our time, . . . the twentieth-century successor to John Stuart Mill's essay, 'On Liberty.'"--Henry Hazlitt, Newsweek
"A reflective, often biting, commentary on the nature of our society and its dominant thought by one who is passionately opposed to the coercion of human beings by the arbitrary will of others, who puts liberty above welfare and is sanguine that greater welfare will thereby ensue."--Sidney Hook, New York Times Book Review
In this classic work Hayek restates the ideals of freedom that he believes have guided, and must continue to guide, the growth of Western civilization. Hayek's book, first published in 1960, urges us to clarify our beliefs in today's struggle of political ideologies.

Philosophy - Libertarian perspective .......2007-06-18
This review will be mostly technical in nature. Some good reviews already exist that discuss the overview of the material.
1. Part 1 The Value of Freedom, 8 chapters.
2. Part 2 Freedom and the Law, 8 chapters
3. Part 3 Freedom in the Welfare State, 8 chapters
4. Postscript: Why I am not a Conservative, 13 pages
5. End Notes = 100 pages
6. Analytical Table of Contents (valuable for reference), listing sub-topics by page number = 7 pages
7. Name Index = 10 pages
8. Subject Index = 16 pages.
My Remarks: this is philosophy of government, plus some historical development, plus economic theory-and-practice. It is a rather tough read, exact logic and completed thoughts until each point is carefully constucted and then commented on.
There are many quote-able passages, and the exhaustive referencing confirms the scholarly style.
The print is small: 42 lines per page, 17 characters per inch.
So, the 3-stars are given so as to ward-off readers that are looking for libertarian views of a popluar nature. Though the reading is somewhat hard, the individual cases discussed make this a perfect source for a dedicated libertarian to reference.
The greatest political philosophy book of the 20th century.......2007-05-27
This is the most consistent level headed book of political philosophy I have read. The first section in particular has a new fascinating idea on almost every page. Hayek was not a libertarian. His thought allowed a fair amount of elbow room for public policy as the third section will show. I also found his postscript "Why I'm not a conservative" very interesting.
Individual Freedom.......2007-05-24
Frederich August Hayek
"Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom."
"Freedom granted only when it is known beforehand that its effects will be beneficial is not freedom."
"If most people are not willing to see the difficulty, this is mainly because, consciously or unconsciously, they assume that it will be they who will settle these questions for the others, and because they are convinced of their own capacity to do this justly and equitably."
Excellent book service.......2007-02-20
The book came very quickly and was packaged well. Service excellent. Book was in excellent condition, even better than advertised. I appreciate the professional service.
Hayek--Orwell's Mentor.......2006-01-02
At the height of socialist popularism in England, cir. 1944, George Orwell, a leading proponent of socialism, believing in its promises as did many,if not most of Eurpose's leading intellectuals and politicians, wrote a review of Hayek's famous book, "The Road to Serfdom." Orwell wrote the review in the "Observer," London April 9,1944.
Hayek, mentions this fact as a footnote in chapter 17 of his classic book, "The Constitution of Liberty" published in 1960, as evidence of the disillusionment of socialist intellectuals, when they were confronted with the observation that individualism and socialism were mutually exclusive. Those same intellectuals had not accepted the proposition when advanced by Karl Mannheim in his book, "Man and Society in an Age of Reconstrucion" (1940). Mannheim had been a long opponent of socialism, but Orwell had only been converted after being exposed to "The Road to Serfdom." By 1960, when Orwell had become a world renowned author and staunch opponent of Big Brother doublespeak, Hayek recognized that the political proponents of socialsm which was dying as a political ideal, were now introducing the concept of the welfare state.
While virtually everyone alive today have been effected by Orwell's works and his prescient warnings about Big Brother, how many of us are aware of Hayek's infulence on him?
"The Constitution of Liberty" provides its readers with an enormous wealth of knowledge, of which this one footnote is only a small example. Each reader is bound to be effected in one way or another by the knowledge imparted to them, and this is one of the main lessons to be learned about "liberty" which requires the "rule of Law" to exist in today's society, but that Rule of Law must be understood. The failure of today's inteligencia is to fail to fully comprehend the meaning of liberty and its necessity in a world full of confusion from the confrontation of competing civilizations.
Unfortunately, Hayek is no longer alive to help guide us through the new millenium. Fortunately, he has left us a large volume of work, perhaps more relevant today than it was when written years ago. While "The Constitution of Liberty" is voluminous in itself, it should be kept as a reference book. Hayek's other works, "The Road to Serfdom" and his last published volume, "Fatal Conceit-the Evils of Socialism" published in 1980 is a magnificent continuation of Hayek's life long discertation on the evolution of mankind's growth from a tribal, familial society which did not require man to understand or protect Liberty, to a group of city-states that prospered because of the Liberties protected in Athens, but only moderately understood, so that such a great and wise philosopher as Aristotle would believe that freedom could only exist as far as a man could yell.
Hayek's understanding that Western Civilization has prospered from individualism, that it has grown and prospered from the freedom to travel, to trade, to exchnge property, material, real and intellectual. He explains why man must be humble, that humans progress from trial and error, not from conceited belief that one way or another way is correct. That to be free and liberated is to be free to make mistakes and government should exist to protect individuals'rights to make mistakes while they attempt to profit in their own ideals and beliefs.

Book Description
Rogues, published in France under the title Voyous, comprises two major lectures that Derrida delivered in 2002 investigating the foundations of the sovereignty of the nation-state. The term “État voyou” is the French equivalent of “rogue state,” and it is this outlaw designation of certain countries by the leading global powers that Derrida rigorously and exhaustively examines.
Derrida examines the history of the concept of sovereignty, engaging with the work of Bodin, Hobbes, Rousseau, Schmitt, and others. Against this background, he delineates his understanding of “democracy to come,” which he distinguishes clearly from any kind of regulating ideal or teleological horizon. The idea that democracy will always remain in the future is not a temporal notion. Rather, the phrase would name the coming of the unforeseeable other, the structure of an event beyond calculation and program. Derrida thus aligns this understanding of democracy with the logic he has worked out elsewhere. But it is not just political philosophy that is brought under deconstructive scrutiny here: Derrida provides unflinching and hard-hitting assessments of current political realities, and these essays are highly engaged with events of the post-9/11 world.

Book Description
Hearsay is a difficult rule of evidence to understand and apply in the practice of law. This treatise on hearsay will be invaluable for students, practitioners, and judges, or anyone involved with the law of evidence. The book begins by explaining the basic concept of hearsay using both time-tested and brand-new ways of seeing and understanding the subject. It then takes a foundational approach in explaining the exclusions and exceptions to the hearsay rule by presenting the foundational elements the law student must know, the foundational facts the lawyer wanting admission must show, and the facts the lawyer trying to block admission must defeat. Extensive "Use Notes" in each chapter explain how to use or manipulate these foundational elements. Additionally, the author explains important hearsay exceptions that are found in the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure and how to make them work. Discussions of how to use opinion evidence, judicial notice as a hearsay exception, and hearsay to get into the evidence of an incompetent witness are helpful for any interested reader. Hearsay also includes discussions of and commentary on ways in which the rules of hearsay can be manipulated to advance the advocate's goals and on the many ways various rules interrelate.
Customer Reviews:
THE BEST HEARSAY BOOK OUT THERE !!!!!.......2005-08-15
This book is the sleeper of the 2ndry sources on Evidence-hearsay, this is simply an excellent book on the topic - uses a standardized approach to every hearsay exception + policy. THe other kickin read on Evidence is the latest Gilberts, Professor Goodes Sum & Substance CD's + Professor Goodes "Court Room Evidence Handbook" - by Thompson-West - the most succinct & lucid mini-evidence treatise. Finally, the www.Cali.org lessons are an infinite resource of drill problems with solutions. Should also mention the ExamPro on evidence is pretty good - but Cali is better.
Good Content, Well-Organized.......2003-01-07
This is a good book. Use it as a supplement in your Evidence class and you'll know hearsay as well as anyone.
This man knows Hearsay!.......2002-10-09
I spent hours reading this book. It is very interesting. I am not a law student, a judge or an attorney. It is definately worth the reading.
Excellent Resource for Students.......2002-10-07
I used this book last year in my Evidence class and it was very useful in learning the hearsay exceptions. The book includes "foundational elements" for every exception, so it makes it very easy to analyze any hearsay issue.
The book also includes some unique approaches to hearsay---including how to use an expert witness to get into evidence a hearsay statement that is otherwise inadmissible; and how to use the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure to get into evidence hearsay statements that are otherwise inadmissible.
This book was a huge reason for my success in my Evidence class last year. I definitely recommend it to other students.
The Best Hearsay Book on the Market!.......2002-09-11
This book is an excellent resource. As a recent law school graduate, I have used this book for both school and work. It was a tremendous help in preparing for my Evidence exam in law school, and I have used it as a reference several times for my work in private practice.
I highly recommend this book to all law students, trial lawyers, and even judges.

Book Description
Community associations enforce rules and restrictions to ensure a high quality of life for residents and to preserve property values - not to harass residents. Rules are there to prevent homeowners from painting their houses pink or storing washing machines in their yards - but those same rules should not become overzealous or inflexible.
"Be Reasonable" shows you how to write and enforce rules that won't get your association in trouble and won't cause residents to hold recall elections.
"Be Reasonable" is a compendium of expert opinions from over 30 leading community association attorneys, managers and directors combined with information from CAI's award-winning magazine Common Ground. You'll learn effective strategies for drafting and enacting reasonable rules, identifying unreasonable rules and restrictions and working with owners. You'll also find out more about reasonable enforcement procedures -- from making exceptions to providing due process. Practical applications are illustrations through discussion of court cases and real-life controversies.
Some of the topics covered in "Be Reasonable" include:
* Writing Reasonable Rules
* Understanding Rules and Restrictions
* Reasonable Enforcement Strategies
* Mediating Disputes
* Levying Fines
* Controversial Rules and Restrictions
* Children
* Holiday Decorations
* Satellite Dishes
* Vehicles
* Eliminating Unreasonable Rules

Nothing more then common sense.......2006-03-15
The title of this book is misleading, as it does not offer much in terms of helpful advice rather a sampling of horror stories from various misguided community associations. The book is also disappointingly short, I almost felt like I was reading an edition of "Reader's Digest". The author compiled the book mostly though articles published by the CAI which are available to any member and it is pretty obvious that the author is more of a scholar then someone with hands on experience in dealing with the problems of troubled homeowner associations. This book is also more focused on homeowner associations, not condo associations so all the urban dwellers might need to look elsewhere.

I was veary dissapointed as were other board members. From ad on your web site we thought it would give us some help in enforcing the rules and regulations ands all the book does is tell you how to make the rules easier and nothing about how to enforce them. VERY DISSAPOINTED & do not believe I will believe your web site again.

Book Description
This is the first book to provide objective methods for establishing that a child has been brainwashed by one parent against another. It is based on a ten-year study of 700 cases in the authors' counseling and evaluative work with children of divorced couples.

Children Held Hostage.......2006-10-07
Children Held Hostage is the very best book for help in understanding and identifying PARENTAL ALIENATION. It should be in the hands of every Lawyer, Guardian ad Litem, Psychologist and any one working with children. It, also, is very beneficial for parents to read, who are suffering from this disorder. Parental Alienation is cruel and breaks the bond-of-love between a parent and child. Before allowing a Guardian ad Litem or others to intervene, he/she should read this book. I cannot praise it enough.

Hope for the hopeless.......2004-07-22
This is the most in depth book on the market for someone in a hostile custody battle involving parental alienation syndrome. The authors have addressed significant issues in great detail. They have provided useful tools to combat the issues at hand and given hope to those embroiled in the battle.
data filled book.......2004-03-05
One of the best studies of the damage of alienating parental behaviour in divorce does to children. This was a pre-cursor to Gardner's terminology of Parental Alienation Syndrome, but all that here discusses is here. This book will help many divorced
parents monitor their own behaviour, as well as help their children, with the knowledge of how the children are being impacted. Expensive, but very informative.
An eye-opening, surprising, frightening divorce possibility........1999-02-04
I was given this book to read after 3 months of weekly counseling with my husband. It was clear to our counselor that my stepdaughter was being programmed and brainwashed for the past 14 years by her mother and step-father of 14 years. (I've been in her life for the past 8 years).
What I read was very disturbing in that it hit home in so many places. The process and definitions were clear and easily identifiable.
The book helped me understand what's been going on and how it happened. In our case the history has been many many years and the programmers'/ brainwashers' support group includes the mother, stepfather, half and step-siblings and grand- parents (among others).
I suspect that this behavior is very common in divorce situations (with children) in varying degrees. This book should be given to all parents who separate/divorce in hopes that they do better by their children and work together to put their children first.
