"As I was packaging what remained of the dead baby, the man I would kill was burning pavement north toward Charlotte."
With this opening sentence, Kathy Reichs serves notice that her heroine, Temperance Brennan, is in for one of her scariest, most gruesome adventures yet. As fans of this popular series already know, Tempe is a forensic anthropologist: an expert in the human form (especially bones) who helps solve crimes. The abovementioned infant is only the first in a series of grisly remains, both human and animal, that Tempe must sort through and decode. Meanwhile, as several seemingly unrelated cases begin to intertwine, her sleuthing puts her in the crosshairs of a very nasty stalker who hides behind an e-mail alias.
Reichs knows how to keep the narrative ball rolling with a canny mix of plot developments, character delineation, and scientific detail, all relayed in Tempe's smart, breezy, sarcastic voice. In fact, Bare Bones has a few too many characters and plot lines for Reichs--or most readers--to keep perfect track of. But it's a fun ride anyway, enlivened by some steamy romantic scenes and some fascinating, appalling information about the illicit trade in endangered wildlife (did you know that bears' gall bladders fetch more money per ounce than cocaine?). Bare Bones is a crisp, enjoyable read that cements Kathy Reichs's standing as the best forensic-thriller writer at work today. --Nicholas H. Allison
Book Description
"Fans of TV's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation should be in heaven" (People) stepping into the world of forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan, star of Kathy Reichs' electrifyingly authentic bestsellers.
She works with the dead but she works for the living.
"Down time" is not a phrase in Tempe Brennan's vocabulary. A string of disturbing cases has put her vacation plans on hold; instead, she heads to the lab to analyze charred remains from a suspicious fire, and a mysterious black residue from a small plane crash. But most troubling of all are the bones....Tempe's daughter's new boyfriend invites them to a picnic -- a pig pickin' -- in the North Carolina countryside, where a cache of bones turns up. But are they animal or human? X-rays and DNA may link the crimes, but they can't reveal who is closing in on Tempe and her daughter -- and how far they will go to keep her from uncovering the truth.
Download Description
"It's a summer of sizzling heat in Charlotte where Dr. Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist for the North Carolina medical examiner, looks forward to her first vacation in years. A romantic vacation. She's almost out the door when the bones start appearing. A newborn's charred remains turn up in a woodstove. A small plane crashes in a North Carolina cornfield on a sunny afternoon. Both pilot and passenger are burned beyond recognition. And what is the mysterious black substance covering the bodies? Most puzzling of all are the bones discovered at a remote farm outside Charlotte. The remains seem to be of animal origin, but Tempe is shocked when she gets them to her lab. With help from a special detective friend, Tempe must investigate a poignant and terrifying case that comes at the worst possible moment. Daughter Katy has a new boyfriend who Tempe fears may have something to hide. And important personal decisions face Tempe. Is it time for emotional commitment? Will she have the chance to find out? Everything must wait on the bones. Why are the X rays and DNA so perplexing? Who is trying to keep Tempe from the answers? Someone is following her and Katy. That someone must be stopped before it's too late. "

Kept me awake.......2007-05-07
I couldn't put it down and go to sleep, just had to know what happened next.
Bare Bones review .......2007-01-17
Bare Bones By Kathy Reichs is the story of a forensic anthropologist named Tempe Brennan as she uncovers the Mysteries surrounding the murders of two federal agents, a baby, and many other people. Even though this book sounds exiting I found it to be very boring because of the way the author tells you about every person that Tempe runs into, whether important or not, describing everything about them from what Tempe notices about the bone structure to what they smell like. I also did not like this book because the entire ending is a flashback along with information she was filled in on afterwards. Even though this book has its down sides, it still has a good plot and has many turns in events that surprise the reader. In the book there is also a lot of action, even though most of the action is watered down by the constant rambling of the author. An example of this is when Tempe is in a car with a group of gangsters surrounding her and intimidating her. This makes for high action, but the author starts talking about the bone structure of the group of gangsters and about the group's height and age, which waters down the action of the moment. So overall I thought this book was a boring, but someone who likes books with lots of details would like it.
Too Much Information.......2007-01-16
Bare Bones, a non-fiction novel written by Kathy Reichs, describes the life of forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan. Brennan tries to solve cases involving a dead baby, a missing woman, a drug bust, and a group of uncovered mysterious animal and human bones. Every clue seems to lead to another as though they are all interconnected. The case begins with a plane crash that was said to have been a drug bust gone wrong. Doctor Brennan and her partner, Detective "Skinny" Slidell, are on the case trying to identify the passenger's bodies. In addition to the plane crash, the case of a baby that was burned to death by her former boyfriend has captured Brennan's attention. Along with all of her casework, Brennan is dealing with her daughter's new boyfriend and with her own personal relationship with Detective Andrew Ryan that is growing to be more than just a "business" relationship.
I had a hard time following the story line in this book because there is much information presented in this book that makes it difficult to understand. For example, the short and sarcastic conversations between Brennan and others were confusing because some of them were superfluous and technical. However, as the story progressed, the information began to tie together and when the story ended I had a clear idea of what was happening and I developed an appreciation for Reich's style. I would recommend this book for those who enjoy mysteries, like putting together pieces of a puzzle, and appreciate the surprises off personal relationships.
great book bad ending-Bare Bones.......2007-01-13
The book Bare Bones, written by Kathy Reichs introduces the reader to the world of forensic anthropology through her interesting main character, Temperance Brennan. In the book, Brennan has three cases to solve. As she gets more evidence and brings the clues together she starts to think that all the cases are connected in a very disturbing way. During the book, Brennan has conflicts with co-workers, and gets back into the dating game after a tough divorce. The book was very detailed and is interesting enough to keep the reader turning the page. The end of the book was very dissapointing, even though all the cases were figured out, it seemed as though Katy Reichs just finished the book without the great detail that she had put in the beginning of the book. Despite the quick ending, I thought the book was easy to read and was very interesting. If you are interested in science and lot's of adventure, then Bare Bones is the book for you.

This massive bone-rattling tome contains the original Kolchak scripts from the classic comics Kolchak Tales of the Night Stalker, as well as the graphic novels Get of Belial, Lambs to the Slaughter and Eve of Terror! All in their original and unadulterated form! See how insane these writer guys really are!
Customer Reviews:
Very good book, with one significant flaw.......2007-06-28
This book was very good, but the two part story was messed up. The story was supposed to be Proximity Prt. 1 and Proximity Prt. 2 but they were both part two.
Item! Worthy of your attention.......2007-04-17
This book is terrific! It is a collection of comic book scripts that not only provides an inside view of how comic books are put together, but also perfectly captures the dialogue and spirit of the 1974 TV series. A couple of the stories are based on semi-completed scripts from that show. The supporting cast of Vincenzo, Updyke, and Miss. Emily are here, and the Kolchak charm and charisma shine through. Forget the pathetic remake that the network executives tried to foist on us. Those of us who remember the 2 telemovies and the Darren McGavin series can enjoy new Kolchak stories in this book.

Book Description
The subtitle of Barebones Project Management is "what you can't not do," and if you're managing a project, that's a perfect description.
Customer Reviews:
Hard to Find More Value per Page.......2007-03-11
With many larger books, if you want to take away anything at all, you need to make a set of notes because the gems of the book are scattered across so many pages. Well this book comes as condensed notes - it's 52 pages not counting the introduction. If that's not condensed enough, there are brief summaries at the end of each of the seven chapters.
As the author mentions, this book is not for project managers leading major projects. This book is geared for people who need to do project management as part of their job, so they can get back to the rest of their job. It goes on to discuss the minimum one needs to do to increase the likelihood of success for the project. It includes areas from planning and managing the project to politics and staffing.
For those not familiar with the author, Bob Lewis is one of the most colorful technology writers around. His style is that of a casual conversation, with plenty of humor thrown in for good measure. As an example of the humor, from a couple of footnotes:
"Best" is defined as "makes the situation most convenient for the project manager."
"Worst" is defined as what always happens unless you take active steps to avoid it.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone involved with IT projects who cares to see them succeed.

An excellent, no-nonsense primer and introduction to sacred texts........2007-03-05
Christian author and speaker Jim George applies his extensive degree learning from Talbot Theological Seminary to The Bare Bones Bible Handbook: 10 Minutes to Understanding Each Books of the Bible, a plain-text, straightforward guide to what the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible have to say. Written for lay people, and designed so that the reader can absorb the essence of each book of the Bible in ten minutes at a time, The Bare Bones Bible Handbook is enthusiastically recommended as a quick-study aid especially for anyone new to bible studies. An excellent, no-nonsense primer and introduction to sacred texts.
Excellent Book.......2007-01-14
Concise and insightful. Around five page summary, comments, and highlights for each book of the Bible. Very useful as a study aid and arouses desire to read the Bible more. Adds substance and gives a good vantage point from which to re-read Bible having noted the outline, purpose and tone of each book/letter in advance. Proud to add to the collection!
4 stars.......2006-09-22
**** This is not a substitute for the Bible or even a Cliff Notes edition of it, but it is handy. Each one of the sixty-six books of Scripture is summarized in first a minimalistic fashion, then with a little more substance, and then how it applies to daily life is explained briefly. There are also relevant lists and facts included at the end of each chapter as well as a "where to find it" guide. This will help you clarify your focus while reading the Word. It is especially useful if you are engaged in a course such as the Bible in Ninety Days during which you run through the entire book at break-neck speed. This is your road map on the trip. ****

Excellent Resource.......2007-05-18
Unlike many training books The Bare Bones Camera Course for Film and Video does not attempt to suggest what camera you should buy, nor does it tell you how to shoot Aunt Alice's 80th birthday party. This book, in its 89 pages, is a beautiful example of a subject that has been pared down to the essential information needed to learn it----and the subject is how to operate your video camera to get the best images you can.
The book's table of contents lists eight sections:
· Basics (such as camera functions, lenses, depth of field)
· Composition
· Basic Sequence
· Screen Direction
· Camera Moves
· Montages
· Lighting
· Doing It (how to plan for a shoot)
Each section is covered concisely, and there are over 200 simple, but effective, black and white line art illustrations to accompany the topic being discussed. This book is perfect for the person who wants to concentrate on improving their video camera operating skills.
The best beginners book out there.......2006-05-11
This is one of the simplest, and best books I've ever seen for beginner filmmakers. It is able to very clearly explain complicated concepts, without writing any more than necessary. It's a very slender book, and a very quick read, and well worth your time.
The best basic camera and cinematography explanations I have found........2006-03-05
This book is the easiest book on the subject to understand. Allmost anyone could understand this book. It gives you the same information as some of those long 300 page books that try to sound scholarly but just end up sounding pretensious. This book is the complete basics, so for anyone who is looking for more in depth stuff this isnt the right book for you.
Short & Sweet.......2002-01-16
Tom Schroeppel is an experienced film editor. Originally written for film cameras, the 2002 edition has been updated to apply also to video cameras. It's amazing how, in this short book, he is able to explain in simple language and illustrations almost everything you need to know in order to make a film or video. If you read your video camera's manual and this one book you will have all the tools you need to make excellent videos. I bought this book in the USC bookstore - it's used in a film class.
Great book.......2000-11-26
I recently picked up this book at a college bookstore, and I read it in about two hours. This is a fabulous book to get all the basic information needed to start making movies. It's littered with helpful diagrams and good examples. Buy it now!

For King-Fans a must.......2000-10-28
This is maybe the most interesting book about Stephen King available. If you want to know something about him, you have to read it, because you won't learn more anywhere else. Not even in his own 'On Writing' by the way.
Maybe it would be interesting too to read more actual interviews, but these one help a lot. Okay, it's not always that interesting, like in the conversation about his radio station and sometimes weird, like in the one about 'Maximum Overdrive' if you have seen it. And of course a lot of things are repeated.
But it's really a must for King-fans.
Insights from the King.......2000-08-21
this was a wonderful collection of interviews of Stephen King. It would be interesting to see another collection done, with some of the more recent interviews and thoughts from him.
I dont now.......2000-04-14
I havent red this book but it souns cool
So Good I Bought The TP, TC, & Limited Numbered Copies.......2000-02-11
In this collection of essays, both new Stephen King fans, and SK'ers alike can enjoy a unique, indepth and personal view into the mind of the world's greatest horror writer. In Bare Bones King does just that -- he Bares his Bones, showing us the reader what really goes on inside his head. You are taken down into a dark cavern that few men have traveled into and survived. (Well, at least literarily -- not literally). As stated above, I was so impressed and intrigued by these works that I bought all three copies available: the 1st edition paperback, the first edition hardcover, and number 588 of 1152 limited handnumbered copies. Truly a "missing link" in any King collection. If nothing else, Bare Bones is a "must-read".
