5 out of 5 stars Action and more Action.......2006-11-28

The novel begins with a quick start and just gets faster and faster all the way to the end. Mr. Morrell certainly knows how to begin the action and continue. Also plenty of religion and knowledge of its orders envolved. I always feel that in all fiction there is a lot of fact and again I find it true with this writing. I highly recommend this one as I have the other four of his I have read. Do yourself a favor read it and enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars A Correction to Another Review.......2006-06-09

I just wanted to offer a minor correction to Mr Minde's review. He mentions "The League of Night & Fog" as an earlier novel than "Fraternity...;" "League" was the third novel of the trilogy, "Fraternity" was the second. In fact, Drew (the main character in "Fraternity") teams up with Saul (the surviving main character from "Brotherhood of the Rose") in "League." A minor point, I know, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

3 out of 5 stars Misled by title and disappointed.......2006-04-24

The title of this book can led many readers to confusion in a way

I thought that this book, using fictional elements would extend to describe how the Fraternity of the Stone operates in the shadows, who are their associates, how they conduct their covert operations in order to protect and maintain the influence of the Church worldwide. I expected to learn something new about those things which seem hidden and for this reason, very attractive

But the fact is that what I have found was your average action thriller, poorly written which had a great beginning but began to falter after a few chapters due to the lack of background research of the author, who only seems to know the methods employed by the security teams and intelligence agencies to train their agents in the use of weapons, hand to hand combat and property assault

After reading Morrell for the third time it seems to me that he likes to highlight the action scenes in his books based on what I have mentioned above, which is great if the author is skilled managing suspense, something he is not very proficient at.

I think that Mr Morrell is a long way yet to attain the level of Frederick Forsyth or Robert Ludlum creating this kind of mystery/action thrillers, and this book is convincing evidence

5 out of 5 stars A great read.......2005-10-31

The Fraternity of the Stone is fast paced and exciting. There is never a dull moment. If you like action books, this is the book for you. I have only two criticisms. First, the book seems to misunderstand the heart of Christianity and Catholicism in ways that make the novel less realistic. For example, many of the characters, including priests and monks, keep talking about "saving themselves." This is far too Pelagian, even for Catholics.
Second, the novel reads a little bit too much like a good action film. It is not quite as sophisticated or literary as a novel can be.

Overall, despite these minor criticisms, it is an excellent book. It is my first Morrell novel and has got me very excited about reading his other novels. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT.......2005-08-10

Why David Morrell is not a more recognizable name in this world, is beyond me. This is the man who wrote Rambo!! Morrell was there way before Lehane, Cohen and all these other popular mystery writers. If you want an original story, go back through the years and pick up ANY of Morrells books!!!
