Product Description

The Power of TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic) offers a powerful alternative to the Karpman Drama Triangle, with its roles of Victim, Persecutor, and Rescuer, and provides the pathway for making the shift happen. This simple, friendly and engaging story conveys a meeting of three characters in a life-transforming conversation on a beach: the central character, David, a fellow named TED* (the embodiment of “The Empowerment Dynamic” who acts as Challenger to the Victim Orientation) and Sophia, who surfaces to serve as David’s Coach. The book is illustrated to present essential models to the reader in a simple and accessible way.

5 out of 5 stars A Gift To All Of Us.......2007-05-12

David Emerald has given all who are aiming to create something special in their lives a huge gift with this book. The principles he shares for how to create a great life are both clear and practical. It is not only pertinent to life but to leadership in organizations as well as coaches who support them. Thank you David!

5 out of 5 stars Creator vs Victim - what would you choose??.......2007-03-25

The Power of TED came through a great coach of mine by the name of Molly Gordon in an Authentic Wealth class I was taking. At her suggestion, I bought this book and realized right away that it was exactly what I needed in my life to clarify and support a way of thinking and acting that I had been working on for awhile. Let's just say that without the timing of the simple wisdom in this book, through an engaging story, I might be under the covers right now cowering and paralyzed in the midst of a particularly challenging time (filled with opportunities, as I see it now!) in my life. An attitude ajustment this book definitely is - if you take the challenge, find the mentors/coaches in your life (including yourself), and be creative with what your heart's desire is.

I am presently using the Power of TED as a resource for a yoga based stress relief series for women who have experienced domestic violence. The book will be a gift from me, and the author, David Emerald, - at our cost - at the end of this series. Viewing ones life through the filters of Creator, Challenger, and Coach, and taking conscious action from these places, is an important piece to having the life that you want!

Thank you David Emerald and Molly Gordon!

5 out of 5 stars Distinctions that liberate.......2006-08-02

"The Power of TED" is about the transformation of "victims" into "creators." The "victim orientation," as David Emerald points out, is a fundamental aspect of unreflective human experience, and it has probably been with us since we came down from the trees. If you have ever wondered, when confronting life's challenges and disappointments, "Why is THIS happening to me?" then you are already familiar with the victim orientation. The book starts with a scenario that raises this very question. And as you read on you will understand how it is that the way most of us think about our problems assures that our victimhood will be repeated, over and over again.

What David Emerald gives us is a new way of thinking about our lives and our relationships that can truly liberate us from victimhood and open up the possibility that we might be creators of, rather than victims of, our relationships or circumstances. I can testify to the power of "The Power of TED." Within three days of reading this book I was able to apply its distinctions and its insights to my own personal and business relationships, with benevolent and tangible results.

Though it is written as a fable, it has the feel of genuine self-disclosure by the author and thus has a "reality effect" that amplifies the credibility of the learnings it seeks to convey. The fable doesn't distract from the message it is designed to deliver, as some out there do. This isn't just a cute story with a few good insights and catch-phrases; it contains a highly practical and actionable means to improve all of your relationships, and to take greater control over the circumstances of your life.

Maybe you have already overcome your own "victimhood" and don't need to read this book for your own personal benefit. Even so, if you're in the business of helping others to lead creative and empowered lives, you will find the book full of useful distinctions, examples, insights, and great aphorisms. Of course, if you do find yourself feeling at times like a victim, or if some of your relationships are giving you high blood pressure or ulcers, then you should probably get a copy of this book and read it as soon as you can.

5 out of 5 stars Sacagawea for Our Souls.......2005-12-29

Two hundred years ago when Lewis and Clark explored the unknown lands of the Pacific Northwest on their voyage of discovery, they were ably (and essentially) guided by the wise yet unassuming Sacagawea. "The Corps of Discovery," as they called themselves, set out on their journey with grave misconceptions -- fearful of finding wooly mammoths, giants, and even the lost tribe of Israel -- but returned with the unprecedented knowledge that the "wilderness" was filled with natural wonders, unlimited potential and the key to the future of the nation.

So it is today, as David Emerald emerges from the Pacific Northwest as Sacagawea for our souls, gently and ably guiding us through the wilderness of our fear and hopelessness to discover the wonders, the potential, and the future that lie within each of us -- if only we have the wisdom and "eyesight" to see them and the roadmap to pursue them.

Proust once wrote that "the true voyage of discovery lies not in finding new landscapes, but in having new eyes." With all due respect to Lewis and Clark, David Emerald takes us beyond new landscapes and gives us new "eyes" and a new roadmap -- in the form of simple yet profound frameworks and insightful language, all wrapped up in an easy to follow parable -- with which each of us can embark on our own personal voyage of [self] discovery.

With this slim volume you will both travel light and travel wisely in your own life journey. Don't be surprised if you wind up carrying it along with you wherever you go and, years hence, find yourself turning again and again to its well-thumbed pages.

5 out of 5 stars Profound reframe and value.......2005-12-06

Isn't it so often the case that powerful and compelling ideas are somehow the simplist? The Power of Ted is the power of Tao. It identifies an empowerment dialectic that rings true and resonates with common sense and practicality. I not only find immediate usage with my individual clients, but find it valuably applicable to larger scale consulting engagements as well. I believe we will be hearing a lot more from Ted...
Thank you David!

5 out of 5 stars THE EMERALD TRIANGLE.......2006-05-28

It has happened again. Miles archer has managed to hook me with yet another one of his wonderful books in the first chapter. THE EMERALD TRIANGLE is the sequel to Mr. Archer's, "Too Many Spies spoil The Case". And just like its prequel, THE EMERALD TRIANGLE, is full of action, intrigue, suspense and humor.

Again Mr. Archer takes you on a tour of San Francisco that keeps you on the edge of your chair. A time in our history that some of us will remember, no matter where were at that time, or a time that those of us who don't remember, have heard about, and wish they would have witnessed. A time of many different ideals, and philosophies.

If you are at all interested in the history of the 70's, and what went on then, THE EMERALD TRIANGLE is the book you will want to read. Mr. Archer has taken this time in our history, particularly San Francisco history, and created a character, Doug McCool, to take you on an awesome tour that is not only mind boggling, but realistic. Doug's adventures are absolutely hypnotizing. As you turn the pages, not only will you remember things, if you happened to be alive at this time, but if you weren't you will learn some of the very interesting things that happened during this time. And you will be completely mesmerized by a fantastic story.

It is 1974, and the Zodiac killer is terrorizing the people of San Francisco. The police are no closer to figuring out just who this person is than they were when the first body appears. Patty Hearst has been kidnapped by the SLA and now has been accused of assisting in a bank robbery. Richard Nixon has resigned, and gas rationing is the pits. Jim Jones has his church, The Peoples Temple, set up in downtown San Francisco, and it looks like he is actually running the politicians of San Francisco, with both the mayor and the district attorney in his pocket. To top it all off, Doug McCook has become unemployed and has decided to start up his own investigation agency, hiring away the employees of the PI agency that he had previously been employed by, himself.

Steve Dodge, an old friend of Doug's has a big problem. A (sort of) girlfriend, Cindy Sinclair, left him and joined the People's Temple. When she left she took Steve's entire savings. Unfortunately Steve had amassed this fortune somewhat illegally, thus he can't even report the theft to the police. Besides this, Steven's means of making a living isn't exactly legal either. He and a group of friends grow, and sell the finest marijuana in the area. Since Steve needs the stolen money to finance his pot farm in Northern California, he has to get it back from Cindy, thus he asks Doug to help. He also asks Doug to help him set up security around his pot fields, as someone is coming in and harvesting it just before Steve and the others can get to it.

Since the new office has yet to open, and Doug has nothing else to do, why not? So off to the forests of Southern Humboldt he goes, and into the midst of murder, mayhem, mystery, and the history books.

Helping Steve proves more difficulty than even Doug thins will be. Getting the money back from Cindy proves to be impossible. She has donated the entire amount to the People's Church, and refuses to even ask for it back. And the security that Doug puts up around the pot fields yields more than anyone expects. Perhaps more than eve Doug can handle!

THE EMERALD TRIANGLE is every bit as wonderful as it's prequel, "Too Many Spies Spoil the Case". As with it's prequel, THE EMERALD TRIANGLE, is written with such passion that it drags the reader into the story. Each character is created in such a way that they become multi dimensional with characteristics that entice you to them. Whether it is an old drunk whom Doug just cannot save from himself, or a young black transvestite that risks his/her life to save Doug, you find you understand them. The characters are colorful, alive, and get under your skin. They also manage to get into your heart. You either love them, or you hate them, there is no in-between. But which ever you feel, there is no judging them, because you do understand them.

The story just flows. Even when the situations get a little complex, there is no confusion. You can just sit back and enjoy a wonderful story, that a case of characters, both real and fiction, that take you on an adventure that you will not forget. The hero of the story is one loveable, tough, irritating, and brave little guy who is trying to just live his life, and perhaps in doing so, have a little fun. Maybe a little unorthodox and a lot less restrained than the majority of us, but then again wasn't that what the 70's in San Francisco was all about?

For those of you who enjoy mystery, suspense, action, all mixed in with some humor and a lot of fascinating pop history, you will not want to miss one single word of THE EMERALD TRIANGLE. Miles Archer is a very, very talented writer, and he certainly knows how to draw the attention of the reader to his work. He is going to go far in the literary world, and believe me you want to be on that streetcar with him from the start. I know I will be, and I don't want to get off. All I want is more from this talented author.

I can't wait to see where Doug takes the readers next. I just know it will not only be interesting but also a lot of fun. Of course mixed with that will be danger and excitement. I can't wait for the next ride into the world that Mr. Archer takes Doug McCool, Private Investigator, into. I definitely will be on that streetcar for the ride, and I hope that you will be too.
