Cisco Unity Deployment and Solutions Guide is THE book to figure out how to make Unity work and how to properly deploy it.
Very helpful!!
Making Unified Messaging Work.......2004-11-09
In the beginning there was the telephone. Then there e-mail, and not long after came sophisticated voice messaging systems that replaced the simple answering machines. Then all of this kind of communications becan to converge. The combined communications capability became called Unified Messaging. Cisco's Unity server is the state-of-the-art in unified messaging systems. And this book seems destined to be the Unity Bible.
This book covers unity. Part I, about a quarter of the book is on the concepts and architecture of the of the Unity system. A good bit of the material in this section covers features that are not discussed anywhere else.
Part II, about a third of the book is on Deployment. Unity is a very flexible system. That means that the installer has many options to consider, and the use of these options involves tradeoffs.
Part III is on the ongoing management and administration of a Unity system. What tools, for instance, are available to monitor the performance of the system and how to interpret the results that these tools give you.

Why are our mock exams so popular and effective? Because they contain the same kinds of thought-provoking questions you will find on the real exam! Approved for 12 hours of continuing medical education (CME) credit by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS).
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as their Physics review book.......2007-03-03
This book was very helpful and I did pass the ARDMS abdomen registry exam. However, the actual test questions were a lot different and included more than what is covered in this book. For example, the ARDMS test now includes images and questions showing small parts such as the Achilles and the wrist which are not reviewed in this book. Overall, I think it did help me. The publisher says their review books are "thought-provoking" and this is very true. The questions help you think things all the way through. Especially for those great questions we all love like "all these can cause carcinoma EXCEPT."
Abdominal Sonography Review.......2007-01-05
This is a very resourceful book for test preparation. However, there are a few errors in the answer, and sometimes the explanation is not really convincing.
Very helpful.......2006-07-14
This is a very hepful tool if you're preparing for the ARDMS test. Highly recommended.

Book Description
Electronic System Level (ESL) design has mainstreamed it is now an established approach at most of the worlds leading system-on-chip (SoC) design companies and is being used increasingly in system design. From its genesis as an algorithm modeling methodology with no links to implementation, ESL is evolving into a set of complementary methodologies that enable embedded system design, verification and debug through to the hardware and software implementation of custom SoC, system-on-FPGA, system-on-board, and entire multi-board systems.
This book arises from experience the authors have gained from years of work as industry practitioners in the Electronic System Level design area; they have seen "SLD" or "ESL" go through many stages and false starts, and have observed that the shift in design methodologies to ESL is finally occurring. This is partly because of ESL technologies themselves are stabilizing on a useful set of languages being standardized (SystemC is the most notable), and use models are being identified that are beginning to get real adoption.
ESL DESIGN & VERIFICATION offers a true prescriptive guide to ESL that reviews its past and outlines the best practices of today.

Customer Reviews:
Make a new stereotype?.......2004-08-20
The field of robotics has split into two camps. One is the "serious" high end domain of industrial labs and academia. The other is that of the solo tinkerer. It is to the latter (you?) that the author dedicates this book, about the subgenre of combat robotics.
Imahara brings together the necessary knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems needed to make such a device. Mundane but important talents like cutting metal safely. And the integration and testing of a complete system. Nothing theoretical here. He writes from wide, practical experience, and appeals to a hands-on ethos in you.
Probably by far the most gripping section is where he describes the different types of combat robots. Thawker, spinner, launcher, hammer, crusher... This field has matured enough to create these now classic stereotypes. Your objective is to build one of these, or, dare you imagine it, be responsible for creating an entirely new stereotype.
Outstanding robot construction book.......2004-05-22
The other reviewers have already written about how great the illustrations are in this book, about the author's ability to clearly explain some fairly difficult tasks, and about the author's Battlebots record. They're right on all counts, and this is an excellent book.
The book covers every step you need, from design to materials purchasing to making armor/speed tradeoffs. Here's the table of contents from my copy of the book:
Chapter 1: Getting Started.
Chapter 2: Designing the Robot.
Chapter 3: Tools of the Trade.
Chapter 4: Selecting Materials.
Chapter 5: Cutting Metal.
Chapter 6: Shaping and Finishing Metal.
Chapter 7: Drilling and Tapping Holes.

Best book on building robots.......2004-02-17
This book is one of the best I have bought so far. Those of you just getting started on building robot will be especially pleased about the countless tips on the correct way to use tools and construction techniques etc. The huge number of illustrations is a welcomed bonus.
The section on choosing a Remote Control is very informative.
If you are hoping for sections on electronics, programming or building your own parts for the electrical/electronic components you will be very dissapointed as all the parts used are off the shelf.
You might want to supplement this book with Amphibionics and Insectronics by Karl Williams which has good sections of programming and electronics.
No book is perfect but if you want to build a REAL fighting robot this is the best book around and I'm saying this after having bought most of the popular ones around.
Beautiful Illustrations.......2003-12-06
I knew of the author from watching BattleBots on TV (he built Deadblow http://www.battlebots.com/battlebots_detail.asp?ID=60) so I pre-ordered this before it even came out.
The thing that sets this one apart from some of the other books is the illustrations - they are absolutely beautiful, and really add to the clarity and readability of the book, although I wish they were in color.
Regardless, this is a brilliant book on robotics. I imagine this is a great place to start if you are just getting into robots, and if you are like me and know some basics after building a few kits, this is a great guide to doing it all from scratch. It provides a great deal of detail, and I'll bet that even veterans are sure to pick up a few tricks here and there.
Well written and easy to understand.......2003-12-06
Just getting started with robots, and this is my first book on building them. I chose this one because I eventually want to build a battlebot, although I plan to just start with a basic bot.
So far this is exactly what I wanted. It is very easy to understand, the directions are clear and easy to follow, and the drawings are absolutely killer.
Very well done, and highly recommended.

Book Description
Presenting a comprehensive overview of the design automation algorithms, tools, and methodologies used to design integrated circuits, the Electronic Design Automation for Integrated Circuits Handbook is available in two volumes. Individually, each volume provides a focused treatment of specialized aspects of design automation. Combined, they provide the most complete reference available in the field, providing unmatched coverage and convenience. The first volume covers system-level and microarchitectural design, logical verification, and testing. The second volume covers RTL to GDSII implementation, analog/mixed signal design (AMS), physical verification, and technology CAD (TCAD).
Customer Reviews:
Great overview.......2007-03-20
Great overview of the IC design process from start to finish. It's been a while since I was a grunt in the trenches working on chip designs - the two volumes allowed me to see what's state of the art all in one place.
well rounded coverage.......2007-03-17
This is one of the best coverage on EDA topics I have come across. For people without an EDA background, this book gives a very good understanding of the complexities of the technologies and clearly illustrates the various challenges involved in designing EDA applications.
There are two things that would help supplement the excellent coverage:
1. the "Overview" section could be expanded (maybe as a "Epilogue" section) to cover "key algorithms, key innovations required and potential challenges for future".
2. An example of a reasonably generic "chip" with a mock run of some tool flows as well as the cycle times (to be fair to all EDA vendors, it would have to cover atleast a few popular flows). The focus for this section would be to help EDA users, future software designers and the IT architecture/infrastructure designers to better leverage the information in future optimization efforts.
The State of the Art as it Exists Today (2006).......2006-05-19
I suppose that anyone even thinking about this book realizes that without ways to automate the design today's ever more sophisticated and ever larger chips simply wouldn't exist. There would be no way to manually keep track of the billions of connections required. There would be no laptops, cell phones, digital cameras or any of the other neat little electronic gadgets that we have today.
As is often the case with books that are describing the current state of the art, this book is a collaboration written by a wide range of people in the industry. These people come from a wide variety of organizations including academic, equipment suppliers, semiconductor companies and more. They are located all across the world. The editors are of course from California (where else?).
Volume One covers architecture, design, verification and testing. Volume Two covers RTL to GDS-II, analog and mixed-signal design, physical verification, and technology CAD.
These books represent the state of the art as it existed in 2005 and Early 2006. These are the techniques in use today and are the base for future developments.
Average customer rating:
- This is an outstanding textbook on capital budgeting.

Customer Reviews:
This is an outstanding textbook on capital budgeting........1999-10-31
Eugene Grant's textbook offers a sound, theoretically accurate, and mathematically rigorous treatment of the economic analysis of investment projects (capital budgeting). Though a bit more verbose than Harold Bierman Jr's classic work, Eugene Grant provides an abundant quantity of demanding end-of-chapter problems that will turn the diligent student into a capital budgeting expert.
The text and the style of writing is somehow difficult........1999-04-17
What I want to mention hear is not aboat the contents of the book. I found the text and the style of writing somehow difficult for someone who knows English as a second language. Although my English is good, I still had some problems. My friends who are not so strong in English had lots of problems and many of them failed to finish the book. All in all, compared to other books from the publisher, the text is difficult and has to be simplified. I hope for the next edition of the book, the publisher and writers would take it into acount.

A Superficial Text of Limited Usefulness.......2002-08-21
If you are looking for one book on how to successfully consult as an engineer, this is not it. Readable in a weekend, the text is too superficial.
It breezes over the nuts and bolts of consulting. Important tax law, such as IRS 'right-of-control' criteria for independency and methods of calculating/paying estimated taxes, are barely covered. Contract writing/review - a vital aspect of the consultation process, is hardly mentioned (although proposals, non-legally binding documents, are well covered). In general, the coverage of the legal and liability aspects of consulting is cursory.
Kaye makes good points, but many would be obvious to any professional experienced enough to consult. What professional doesn't know how to dress for an interview or that bringing physical samples of work to the sales meeting is a good idea?
When detail is provided, Kaye often favors an approach without substantiation. For example, on the all important topic of billing rates, calculation of rates based upon desired annual income is covered in detail, while methods of researching the rate which the market will bear are scarcely covered. Yet in real markets, the billable rate will be influenced (if not based entirely) upon the market rate. In fact, comparison of the market rate and the desired rate may lead the individual to choose *not* to consult. Analysis appropriate in a text about launching a practice.
In conclusion, although Kaye's book has an affirming message and a fine bibliography, it holds few revelations or useful tools and will rarely be use for later reference.
For those trying to decide whether to consult or interested in the "nuts & bolts" of consulting, I recommend Nolo's excellent, "Working for Yourself, Law & Taxes for Independent Contractors . . ." by Fishman. I am unable to recommend any books on marketing for consultants.
Excellantly Written.......2002-08-13
This book is easy to read. It covers all the bases and gives you a good idea as to how much you are really worth as a consultant. It's a "must have" as a reference book for anyone going out on their own.
Excellent resource for the technical consultant!!!.......1999-10-28
ANYONE considering technical consulting as a full or part-time profession MUST READ THIS BOOK! It cover all aspects of consulting (including a personal reality checklist) in an easy-to-read manner and will be a permanent reference in my library.
Invaluable information, filled with countless wise tips!.......1999-04-26
As an e-commerce consultant I was pleasantly surprised to see that someone had written about exactly the kinds of experiences I've had with clients over the years. This is the first consulting book I've come across that covers all the issues in a straightforward way. It's full of great tips based on real life experience. Other consulting books tend to have a lot of fluff and padding, but this one gets right to the juicy issues in a concise manner. I makes for enjoyable reading, at times it is hard to put down. This is an essential book for anyone doing consulting or contract-based work.

Wait for the NEXT Edition........2000-11-10
"Handbook of Reliability Engineering and Management", Second Edition, Edited by W. Grant Ireson, Clyde F. Coombs, Jr. and Richard Y. Moss, McGraw Hill, 1996.
This is the second edition of the Handbook, which first appeared in 1988. There are individual contributing authors for each of the 27 chapters; the resultant is already out of date. The current "Limbo" status of military documents, such as Military Standard 105 and Military Handbook 217F, makes this present edition of the Handbook out of date in 2000. Will Military Handbook 217F ever be revised to provide up-to-date models for the failure rates of modern electronic components?
This Handbook would benefit from better editing. For example, as a Handbook, it is expected that the index in the back of the physical book would contain page references to pertinent reliability terms and techniques. Today's technology emphasizes Environmental Stress Screening, ESS. The term, ESS, has been around for at least 15 years (or so: I recall doing an IEEE paper on ESS in 1988). It is expected that ESS and related terms such as HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) and HASS, would be readily found in the Handbook's index. They are not.
Same thing holds true for Software Reliability, where the chapter's author uses the cute term, "SMERFS Model" (p. 22.15), but this term will not be found in the index. (SMERFS = Statistical Modeling and estimation of reliability functions for software.) By the way, from a technical point of view, this chapter's half page on the various models for software reliability is very skimpy. For example, Dr. Michael Elbert has written an entire IEEE paper on the selection of the proper model for software reliability. It would be expected that a Handbook would be more complete than just a small portion of a page. In Chapter 22, on Software Reliability, the author references a paper on the Rayleigh curve by "Gaffney" (p. 22.13). The reference at the back of Chapter 22 gives the reference's name as "John Gafney". This is a discrepancy that should have been caught by the editors. I suspect that the correct spelling is "Gaffney", but both can not be correct.
There are other editorial lapses: on page 16.24, Bellcore failure rates are compared to MIL-HDBK-217, and it is state that Bellcore "... provides generally better failure rates than does MIL-HDBK-217F, which is supposedly based on field experience in communications equipment." The way this sentence is presented implies that MIL-HDBK-217F is based upon experience in communications equipment, when, as most reliability practitioners know, MIL-HDBK-217F failure rates are based on environments from Ground, Fixed, to Ground, Benign, to Naval Sheltered and Airborne, etc, and on equipment from radios to radars to sonars, air data computers and fire control units. This inconsistency in the use of the language ought to have been caught by the editors.
On page 16.6, there is a nice comparison of FITs to failures per million hours to %failure per 1000 hours. The Editors should make the reader aware that a billion in American usage (1 with nine zeroes after it) is not the same as European usage. Chapter 6, on FMEAs is totally into the Risk Priority Number method where "gray beards" sit around and use the "Delphi" approach to ascertain the probability of an event, the severity of that failure and whether or not the failure can be detected. This is a very subjective method, and, in my humble opinion, RPN is being superceded by more objective, quantitative methods (see IEC 61508).
In summary, prudent purchasers should await the next edition of this Handbook, if that edition considers all the changes taking place in the availability of military standards and the new leadership role of international standards in the reliability arena. For example, IEC 300, on "Dependability" is not even mentioned.
John Peter Rooney, ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer #2425.
