There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Provocative, appealing and controversial.......2006-08-02

Fomenko has succeeded to convincingly demonstrate the misconception about what "history" factually is... It is fiction and -like we can read and judge for ourselves- no science. It indeed is "make belief" only. I "discovered" Fomenko while studying the "old" history of Al Andaluz, Spain. Having found too many contradictions in available data, having seen too many forgeries as to pretend the importance of christianity for its decline, I ventured out to find Fomenko, who convinced me that we know little if anything for sure of the epoch before the XI-century. However, the integration of the Arabic-Islamic cultural history into the heavily distorted Western fails... There are some attempts to fit "the budding new religion" (Islam) into Fomenko's scheme, but they are too weak to be taken seriously and too often focussing on Turkey as the region where things started to influence the West, which is untrue at all.
Islam certainly was no "new religion" in the X-century. That the highly cultivated Al Andaluz ruler Mohammed-I could have been "mirrored" down in time into some myth about the "illiterate" founder of Islam itself is highly speculative. Nevertheless, Fomenko convinces me about the processes that were involved in forging a christian history. Intriguing and controversial as his books are, I recommend them as to rethink our current position in time and space and simply verify what was claimed. It is a "good" book, but not for bedtime reading... Mundus vult decipi, the world wants to be cheated. Fomenko's readers will understand why.

Traces of white wine were found in Tutankhamen's tomb however there were no record of white wine in Egypt until the 3rd century AD, 1600 years after the young pharaoh died according to the traditional chronology. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/mg18925395.400
It can be interpreted as a contribution towards New Chronology theory that pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.

Best Terry Brook's Trilogy.

Angel Fire East marks the close of Terry Brooks's Nest Freemark-John Ross saga, which began with 1997's Running with the Demon. After a long layover in Seattle for the middle book, Knight of the Word, the fantasy-meets-modernity action returns to Nest's native Hopewell, where once again Nest and John must face off against the Void, this time in the form of ancient demon Findo Gask, who favors a black-clad evil preacher getup for his menacing needs.

Brooks's well-realized and likable cast from the previous books is back, from Nest (now 29) to Ross (haggard as ever) to Pick (still just a few inches tall) and even grown-up versions of Nest's childhood friends from Running, including Bennett, now a junkie with child. Of course, Findo Gask has assembled a creepy little Legion of Doom to harry these nice folks: a giant albino demon; a formless, flesh-eating ur'droch; and a knife-wielding Orphan-Annie-gone-bad named Penny Dreadful. And Angel Fire's main plot thread is even compelling: John Ross has caught a shape-changing, wild-magic creature of enormous power, a gypsy morph, that he and Nest must discover how to turn to the Word before Gask and his crew can capture it for the Void.

But as with Knight of the Word, wooden pacing and unconvincing transitions keep this tale from rising to the level of Brooks's previous masterworks, such as the excellent Shannara and Landover series. If you've read the first two books, it's certainly worth seeing off your old friends in Angel Fire East. But if you're--heaven forbid--new to Terry Brooks, check out his earlier work, or even his very capable novelization of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. --Paul Hughes

Best Terry Brook's Trilogy........2007-06-09

I disagree with the Editorial Reviews. In my opinion this is the best Terry Brook's trilogy. I own and have read all of the Shannara books, and
this trilogy is superior. For me, all of the books in the trilogy were true "page-turners". I found it very difficult to put them down. I love to read just before bed, and many a night I would promise myself I could read only one chapter and then find an hour later I was still reading. I really cared for the characters - wishing I could spend time with them. The mood, the suspense, the settings - everything was perfect.

Characters a Bit Slow.......2007-06-03

Nest has magic in her. She's come to terms with that over her lifetime and now, in her late twenties, accepts it. She also accepts the fact that she is destined to lead a quiet life in the small town where her family has always lived. She will act as guardian over the nearby forest and try to keep her magic in check. This winter will be just one of many boring seasons by herself.

Then a nasty demon shows up at her door, asking about a man Nest knew years and years ago, a Knight of the Word named John Ross. The demon seems to think that John is headed for Nest's house, and he warns her that if she tries to help him or hide him, very bad things will happen.

Soon Nest's house is filled not only with John Ross and a strange magical and powerful creature called a gypsy morph in the form of a small boy, but also an old friend who has come upon hard times and her little girl.

The demon and his footsoldiers are all around them, though, making trouble and putting everyone in danger. Nest can't throw John and the boy out--if they can get the boy to communicate with them, they will have a powerful weapon in the ongoig fight against the demons of the Void. But time is running out for all of them.

I liked that even though this book was the third in a series, I felt like I could pretty well pick up on what was going on without having read the two previous books. I also liked that although this book was science fiction, it took place in a pretty normal town where nobody knew that magic existed.

The characters were really clueless. Nest should have had some idea of what was going on with Larry, and Gask should have been able to figure out what form the gypsy morph had taken. Everyone was a bit too slow to figure things out.

Once again we are in GOOD hands with this last installment of the Word/Void.......2007-05-01

It took me quite a long time to even get the courage to purchase Running With The Demon. I believe it had been out in paperback at least a year before I got around to it. I was a fan of Shannara--and that was ALL. I had already ignored his Landover series from day one (and still haven't read them--although one day I will) but this one seemed different. The idea of a contemporary fantasy story set in the REAL world was fascinating and the loosely based similarities to the Harry Potter series is about as far off the mark as comparing the Lord of the Rings to Star Wars.

I am quite impressed overall with the entire series, and with Angel Fire East in particular. The character of Findo Gask is at once one of Brooks' more demonic creations, but in a totally different manner than anthing set before. Sure he has given us some truly horrible creatures over the years, but Findo is much more evolved than the others...and consequently is much more intelligent and cunning, and therefore almost real in how he can make your skin crawl. I loved the pacing of the story and how it all unfolded so meticulously. It almost seems as though each and every person introduced is treated as though they were the main focus of the story, and that secondary characters simply did not exist.

I have also noticed that no matter how much I enjoyed or hated a novel, there are ALWAYS those who feel as opposite from the way I do as is possible, and therefore discount my opinion of the book I reviewed. I never feel the need to preach about how if I liked any particular book that the world HAS to like it as well...and so I won't here as well. What I WOULD like to say is this: chances are if you liked Running With The Demon and A Knight Of The Word, you will more than enjoy Angel Fire East. Personally I felt it was one of the more satisfying stories Terry Brooks has ever written. He is right now in the middle of bridging the storylines of the Word and Void to Shannara with Armageddon's Children and the upcoming Elves of Cintra. Once again, I cannot WAIT to buy and read them as well...and who knows, while waiting for the last book, I may finally pick up that first Landover book that came out so long ago and give it a go...

Great end to a great series........2006-12-01

Terry Brooks really stepped out of the fantasy box with this series. It certainly was not your typical elf-man-dwarf-dragon-etc. book. It was an original story out of an original mind. Before reading this book, you need to read Running With the Demon and Knight of the Word. It will be well worth your time.

Welcome to the Restoration: Decadence, romance, intrigue and deception .......2007-06-08

Is there a more fascinating time or place than the court of King Charles II? I cannot think of one, and Karleen Koen lends her pen to bring it alive in "Dark Angels".

Koen has a knack for hooking the reader early on with hints and promises, and interesting characters. She writes romantic heroes, heroines and villains extremely well, as readers of "Through a Glass Darkly" know. I flew through the pages and loved the characters, costumes and themes centering on the struggles between love and greed or jealousy, forgiveness and revenge, and strategic scheming and surprise. Koen transports you to the decadent Courts of the Sun King (Louis XIV of France & creator of Versailles) and Charles II of England, and drapes you in damask, jewels and lace, and on the next page sends you to seedy brothels and privy court chambers for some debauchery, drunkeness and gambling. Regicide, religious wars, royal gossip and exploits, romance and gold digging rule the day. It is delicious fun!

The real story of "Dark Angles" introduces us to Alice Verney who is first a young Maid of Honor to Princess Henrietta Anne of France (sister to Charles II of England) and then a not-so-young Maid of Honor to the shunned Queen Catherine in England. She's had her heart broken in love and loyalty through the betrayals of a friend and lover, and the murder of Madame, Princess Henrietta. Alice puts up a condescending, stand-offish front in an attempt to protect herself and others, and finds that such a barrier isolates us from those we love, rather than keep them close. She is sassy, spoiled, scheming and sophisticated, and yet disillusioned by life at court. We see an early glimpse of the life lessons that shaped the loving, accepting and wise grandmother we met in "Through a Glass Darkly".

Koen brings alive the sexual charge of the time through accurate presentations of its rogues from the well documented exploits of Kings Charles II of England and Louis XIV of France to the English Earl of Rochester and Sir John Sedely who drunkenly bumble and grope their way through the background of this book. It was a drunken, decadent time of debauchery and hedonism, and great fun to re-live through books such as this, "The King's Touch", "The Perfect Royal Mistress", "Duchess: A novel of Sarah Churchill" or even "Forever Amber" (I am not a huge fan, but many others are).

I gave this book a "4 star" rating because it is just simply an intriguing, fast, fun escape read, but it does have its flaws. The main draw back is that Koen seems confused as to whether she wanted to write a "whodunnit?", a romance or a fantastic period novel. She delivers pieces of all three, and that leaves fans with genre preferences feeling disappointed. The good news is that this novel seems ripe for a sequel (or two!) to fill the time between its end and the beginning of her stellar debut, Through A Glass Darkly. I love the promise of more to come... I only hope the wait is short!

Hugely dissappointing.........2007-05-25

I loved Koen's other works. However, this book fell flat. There was really no intense character development nor was I given alot of reasons to root for Alice. Barbara's end was obvious. In fact, the entire book was pretty obvious to an avid reader of historical fiction. I could've guessed the entire plot in the first 100 pages.

The only reason I gave this book 3 stars is because I thought the last 150 pages or so were exciting and fun to read. The first have is slow and boring and there are too many secondary characters that were really unecessary.

It is hard to believe that Dark Angels and Through a Glass Darkly were written by the same person. With the exception of some of the names of the charecters there were few similarities between the books. Through A Glass Darkly offers genuine emotion, clever dialogue and believable relationships, not to mention the sharply drawn portraits of Barbara, Roger, Diana, the Duchess and the rest. I will admit that Dark Angel's Alice was many-faceted, but everyone else in the book was one-dimensional. The story itself was fast-paced for the most part, but didn't really make me care about any of the protagonists. However, the biggest disappointment was that Dark Angels never fleshed out the intriging parts of the Duchess's story that had only been hinted at in Through A Glass Darkly; e.g. Alice and Richard's early relationship with Roger, the births and deaths of their children, Diana's marriage, Richard's military successes. Even Richard's proposal to Alice was different from the way it had been portrayed in TAGD. This book is supposed to be a "prequil" to Through a Glass Darkly but as far as I am concerned that prequil has yet to be written.

Needs a sequel of its own!.......2007-03-01

I'm going out of order, having read this between "Through a Glass Darkly" and "Now Face to Face" (which I'm in the midst of), but since they stand alone, it works.

It's a great book. The way Max Allan Collins managed to get the character's personalities just right is amazing. My only complaint is that Alec should have been a little more of a Smart Alec. But it's still a great book. You should definitely read if you watched the television series.

This is the best serial killer mystery novel, the most tense and suspenseful. I respect and have read David Wiltse, James Patterson, Marcel Montecino, D. Van Arnham, and the others, but nothing is better than this modestly published tv tie in paperback!!!!!!!!!

If you are a fan of Dark Angel, you will probably be very disappointed by the ending of this book. I was very upset that a major theme of the second season of the Dark Angel TV series was treated as an afterthought and casually disposed of. It also has a glaring astronomical mistake (which sadly I cant go into detail since it may be a spoiler and thus contrary to the review guidelines).

While it was nice to get the closure that one needs after being left hanging by the TV series which ended abruptly, I have to say that I really like the TV show better. Still, if you were a Dark Angel fan that felt frustrated with the way the show just ended, it does give a little bit of closure, although it does feel a little anti-climatic.

Sure it's not the show but Collins does a fine job of creating the feel of the series with this prequel. It gives alot of interesting backstory for all the characters in the show. If you like Dark ANgel you'll like these books

I love Karen Harper. She provides a great story and wonderful character interaction...she is also one of the few authors I can safely give to my mom to read. :) Although the amish stories have not been my favorite, I loved this one. It was fantastic and the storyline gets you from the first!!

This book is set in Amish country and features a young Amish woman and an outsider, Englisher research doctor. Amish children have been dying from a genetically related disease and even some adults have been sickly, carriers and even died. The doctor moved to the area to study the diseases, find the gene that causes them, and hopefully help with finding a cure.

Spooky things start happening. Threats to the doctor and his helpers, kidnappings, killings and mysterious disappearances.

The book contains much mystery and lesser amts of a love story, but it is powerful enough to make the reader feel the pull to finish the book and see what happens.

This is one of a three book series by this author.

I DID enjoy this book, and I really loved the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery mixed with a little romance.

One thing that really annoyed me, however, was that this book kept referring to one of the characters from the first two books in this series as "Brett" (should be Brooke). If you've read the first two books, you probably caught this right away, too. I certainly didn't forget the characters names. How did the author???

I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase if it was platinum. I think I read the entire thing in about three hours(That is not an indication of how small or simple the book is, simply how good it is). There are several stories in this collection that I will never forget. They are erudite, frightening and all together new. The author is a sample of a generation that has acquired anxieties that former generations couldn't begin to comprehend.; and he has benefited from it. Or, we have rather. If you want a book that will make you squirm and smile int he same instant this is it. This collection will scar the inside of your skull like a chemical burn on the roof of your mouth.

im not so hot on writing details but i thought it ADA was amazing
the collection of short stories definantly were out there enough to see as though they would be the near future in some cases, the nuclear weapons, mass drug uses, and the want to be so dramatically different from everyone else have been going on for a while but the way he alters these things makes them a great read

Literary Transgression At Its Most Brilliant.......2006-09-04

Jeremy Robert Johnson's writing has the unique and magical ability to conjure up characters so human that the reader can't help but empathize, and this is where Johnson's work breaks new ground in horror. From grotesque landscapes to the most horrifying worst-case scenarios, Johnson's prose casts the reader into the heart of the maelstrom with a ferocious sense of humor and a sinister intensity.

Angel Dust Apocalypse is an evocative nightmare of a page-turner that Chuck Palahniuk (the author of Fight Club) has rightly called, "dazzling." This collection represents a genuinely impressive debut from Johnson, who is quickly making a name for himself for his gift with words and his dark wit.

My favorite stories from the collection were "The Sharp Dressed Man At the End of the Line"- a tongue-in-cheek post-apocalyptic tale of a man who survives "the big one" in a suit made of cockraoches - and "Working At Home" - a parasite-infested thriller featuring a surgeon struggling to perform a time-critical operation on his most difficult patient: himself.

Its a good beach book or something of that nature. The writing is mediocre as are the stories. Its not aweful, but you won't be moved very much or wowed or what have you.

The first excellent short story writer of my generation.......2006-08-31

This book is a sustained psychoanalysis of the generation born between 1972 and 1980. He takes our anxieties, spins them into nightmares, force-feeds them back to us, and makes it look effortless. As such, he has drawn comparisons to Burroughs, but this can be misleading - the similarity is thematic and not stylistic. As odd as it may sound, Johnson's brevity and clarity reminds me of O. Henry. These are perfectly-edited little hand grenades.

My favorite in this collection is second story ("Dissasociative Skills"). If I'm not mistaken, Johnson is riffing on "Patriotism," Yukio Mishima's masterpiece short story about hara-kiri. If Mishima's story is a study in aesthetic nihilism and physical ecstasy, Johnson supplants it with AN-aesthetic nihilism and suburban torpor.

Of course, for me, the body-horror thing gets a bit overwhelming for me at times. This guy has a wonderful mind, and I'd love to see him write something other than "dark" fiction.

This is the last book VC herself completed before her death, and the best one, in my opinion. She gave it her all and the result is a book you'll want to read over and over again. It's also a book that, if you read it only once in your life, you'll never forget it. I felt actual pain reading this very sad book.

The story picks up where "Heaven" left off. Heaven has arrived at the Boston Airport and her mother's family is there to meet her and take her back to their mansion. There she encounters secrets and oddities; she'll be forced to grow up quickly in an all-girls' school and prove her worth; she'll also discover a mysterious cottage where a dreamy artist, Troy, brings out passion in her like she's never known before. Sadly, though, this will be a short, tragic love.

There are some shockers in this book and Heaven will be forced to make some tough choices: Does she cut off the Casteel clan for good or reunite her childhood family? Does she leave Winnerrow behind or go back to it? Does she want to know the truth or live in a fantasy world? What happens to the love of her life (Troy), and with Logan? Does she make peace with Luke, or remain bitter toward him?

I agree with the person who said this series should've ended here. The books that follow in this series are inconsistent in plots and details and confuse the reader. But read "Heaven" and "Dark Angel", and you won't be disappointed.

The book Dark Angel is the sequel to V.C. Andrews book Heaven. In Dark Angel a girl named Heaven leaves her home in a poor town in the mountains of West Virginia, the Willies, to live with her grandmother in Boston. In this book Heaven is now 17 and she wants to go to college. But inorder to do that she must get her rich grandmother to like her enough in order for her to get money to go. But her plane to get the cash starts to unravel when she finds her grandmother isn't excactly someone who cares for people too much.
Well I had to read a book written by a Virginia author and I chose this one because of the great reveiws it had gotten. Mainly girls will like this book because Heaven is in a stage in her life in which all girls will have to go through.
The books plot was mostly about Heaven trying to get money for college so she can go and be the first Casteel to get into college. The descriptions of each character gave you a very clear image of each the person. Their expressions, movements, and physical features gave each charcter their own personality. The theme of the story was a rages to riches kinda of thing. Where Heaven moves from a run down shack in the Willies to a masion in the rich part of Boston. The whole story is told in Heaven's words so its her on oppinion on her new life, not a narrator's which is good. I enjoyed the book alot, every time I read a page I just wanted to see what happens in the next one.

This is a good book........2005-11-18

This book is called Dark Angel by V.C Andrews. The plot of the story is a girl named Heaven whose father sold her for 500 dollars and then went to her rich grandparents. The main idea of this book is to love your family even if they do not seem to love you, because you might not see them again.

An example of this would be when Heavens little brother and sister don't remember her (they were sold to another family for 500 dollars by her pa.) Another is when Heaven was going to marry Troy and could not because she finds out Troy is really her uncle.

In this book it may seem that many bad things happen, but there are also some good things, such as when Heaven arrived at her grandparents' rich house. Also, when Heaven's grandpa fixed the cabin she was born and raised in.

I would recommend this book because it is filled with mystery and secrets. It also has a lot of drama.

This is my favorite VCA book ever. The romance between Troy and Heaven is just so passionate, and perfectly counters the one that she has with Logan which is just so sweet.

Why,oh, why didn't Heaven ever confront Luke with the truth? I would have loved to hear his reasonings on why he never told Heaven that he wasn't her father. If Heaven had any doubts about Tony's allegations, why didn't she just ask Luke?
