Book Description
If One L is the book to read before law school, Relentless Pursuit is the book to read after-a real-life legal thriller that shows, from the inside, a prosecutor's quest to deliver justice to a family devastated by murder.
What happened to Diane Hawkins and her daughter Katrina-a brutal double murder in which the girl's heart was cut from her body-devastated a Washington, D.C., community and left its mark on everyone involved in the subsequent investigation. Especially moved was federal homicide prosecutor Kevin Flynn. He had handled any number of grisly murders, and was no stranger to the depravity of the human soul. Yet the way Hawkins's family and friends rallied together to help each other through the tragedy-and the generosity they ex-tended to Flynn, whose own father was dying of cancer at the time-turned this case into a personal mission. He was determined to use his position to effect real closure, to right a wrong-to bring justice on behalf of the victims and their families.
Relentless Pursuit is the story of that journey to justice, an intensely gripping beat-by-beat reconstruction of the events as they unfold-the murder, the arrest, the trial, the verdict-told with astonishing candor, and providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of a dedicated prosecutor. Above all, it's about healing and community, a story in which, in the end, the system works and-for once-justice prevails.
Customer Reviews:
Well-written and compelling book.......2007-04-24
Kevin Flynn is a homicide prosecutor in a city that has one of the highest homicide rates in the country, Washington, D.C. Being surrounded constantly with stories and photographs of death and murder, you would think he would have grown a thick skin, learned to objectify the cases and move through them in a detached manner.
But this case was different. The murders of 40-year-old Diane and 13-year-old Katrina Hawkins left a lasting impression on everyone associated with the case. Their murder investigation was one of the most brutal that police and prosecutors ever worked. Over a year after the crime occurred, during the trial, Detected Combee would still grow quiet when testifying about what he saw in the Hawkins house that day.
But this case is not about the terrible method these two victims were murdered. To quote from the book:
It's a story of extremes: the worst and the best the world can offer, humanity at its most brutal and most noble. It's the story of two families -- mine and another from a world that I thought I knew but didn't -- two families full of ordinary people who did their best under awful circumstances.
Relentless Pursuit does indeed follow the Hawkins case, from the initial night of the murders May 25, 1993 to the prosecution in August 15, 1994. But there is much more to the case than just the horror and the story of how they caught the man responsible.
This is also the story of the Hawkins and Flynn families, which became irrevocably linked together. The Hawkins family suffered one of the worst losses a family can, the loss of both a sister and strong influence in the family, and a child, who had just begun to show her gifts and talents to the world. But through it all, they clung to their faith in God, which also served to help their new-found family member, prosecutor Kevin Flynn.
The Flynn family though, was going through its own trials. Kevin's mother was suffering from depression and shortly after he began work on this monumnetal case, his father was stricken with cancer. Through the entire case, Kevin is required to balance his work and family life, including his wife and child, and try not to let anyone down. And part of that includes the Hawkins, who look to him as the only man that can bring them any measure of justice on Earth.
The book is told in a compelling style, taking us through the case, from the night the murders occurred through the entire case. There are procedural sections to the book, such as descriptions of how certain courtroom processes work, but that does not get in the way to the story, which is what the book is really all about.
Relentless Pursuit is not a book for those looking to learn about how the law really works, but you will learn a great deal about how the defense and prosecution work together and against one another, how much power a judge can wield, and some of the reasons why cases don't work out as cleanly as they do on television.
In the end, this book is just what the quotation above says, it is a story of two families. And it is an excellent book.
Excellent true crime!.......2007-04-11
Thoroughly enjoyed this book - an excellent true crime story carefully and thoughtfully told - the writer's courtroom skill - I call it Flynn's Finesse - not only makes this book a great read but provides the reader with valuable lessons for the day he or she finds himself or herself in the Courtroom as a part of a prosecution or defense team or as a member of the jury.
AWESOME.......2007-03-12
I ran out and bought this book on a Thursday night. I couldn't put it down, I had to read every chance I got. I finished it very late Saturday night. By the end I was ready to read his next book. This is an awesome true crime writer.
I Couldn't Put the Book Down.......2007-03-11
I bought this book after reading a glowing review in the Washington Post. I was hoping that it would be a good read and that maybe I would learn something about the prosecution of a murder case (I work as a public defender in the metro D.C. area). After reading just the first ten pages or so, I realized that I had stumbled upon a masterful work. Other reviewers have summarized the facts, so I won't dwell upon them, except to say that this was a horrible, brutal crime that is almost beyond human comprehension. The book really moves along so well that at times it is hard to remember that it a true story and not a work of fiction. One thing that clearly sets this book apart from other works is the author's insight into how a trial develops - and Flynn's description of his relationships with the defense attorney and the judge in this case apear remarkably candid and insightful. This is a book not just for lawyers, but for everyone who cares about the quality of justice in this country and I recommend it to all.
A Brilliant and Engrossing Book.......2007-03-10
Federal prosecutor Kevin Flynn has crafted a masterful work of literature, which gives a brilliant insider's account of the investigation and prosecution of a horrific murder in Washington, D.C. The book's gripping plot line concerns the gruesome killing and mutilation of Diane Hawkins and her 13 year old daughter, Katrina. Flynn takes the reader into the real world process by which crime is investigated and criminals brought to justice. The rich detail of the facts is counterbalanced by Flynn's humanity about the nature of crime and the solemn responsibility of those who enforce the criminal law. The book reads like a brilliant mystery novel and no one could finish it without thinking that the rough measure of justice brought about by the killer's trial was the result of one man's dedication to the cause of justice. This is a must read.

Book Description
Summoned to the Admiralty by Sir Edward Pellew, Captain Adam Bolitho is ordered to sail his 46-gun frigate Unrivalled into African waters to aid His Majesty's campaign against slave-runners. Preoccupied with avenging his uncle Richard's death while confronting an entrenched adversary and the aggressive opposition of the Algerian overlord, he fears he may be setting his crew on a course of doom.
Customer Reviews:
Douglas Reeman writes another masterful yarn.......2007-05-10
Douglas Reeman under the pen name Alexander Kent has been writing Bolitho novels since the 1970s. I remember reading Sloop of War and liking the speed of the sloop plus its 16 18 pounders and two forward 24 pounders making it an 18 gun ship. There is a Science fiction story where a human encounters a Computer civilization and the Computer demands millions of books to read and then the Human promises to fill the order and runs away. I have been trying to fill that order ever since by encouraging good writers like Alexander Kent. Adam Bolitho used to be called Adam Pascoe in the series at one time and was the Favorite relative of Richard Bolitho, described as being like a son to Richard. It is difficult to believe that the Admiral Richard Bolitho was written out of the series. Tackling the African slave trade difficulties as Captain of a Frigate makes the Captain Adam Bolitho character worth checking out in this Suspenseful novel
Another Bolitho.......2003-08-19
Since Peace has broken out following the final defeat of Napoleon, the British Navy is on short rations. Nevertheless, Capt. Adam Bolitho is somehow kept on to continue his seaborne adventures begun in the previous volume, #24 Second to None. Before confronting the Dey again, he is assigned to the anti-slave patrols off Africa, and also encounters serious trouble while sailing as a courier for the Admiralty.
This is the second novel in this Napleonic Wars series to focus exclusively on Adam Bolitho, Adm. Richard's nephew. Adam is not a genius of tactics or leadership like his mentor. Actually, although Richard is gone, Adam and the other characters spend quite a bit fondly moping about him while they go sailing back and forth. Author Kent waxes nostalgic and layers this novel with extended sentimentality about Richard, We Happy Few, Catherine, Herrick, etc. etc. Naval action is relatively perfunctory relative either to the early books or the sentimental involvements here of Adam with his crew of faithfuls, and with another beautiful but troubled damsel. In other words, this book is strictly for people who've read all the others and are willing to reminisce about their leading characters, many of whom make cameo appearances here.
The Royal Navy and a Quasi Peace.......2002-02-27
Alexander Kent is now depicting the Royal Navy without a defined enemy and the impact this is having on it. Without a belligerent France across the Channel, the strength of the navy is slashed to the bone and beyond.
Adam Bolitho is still in command of the frigate Unrivalled only now is dealing with ships packed to overflowing with Africans en-route to slavery and with North African pirates. Neither of these opponents are giving much concern to politicians and merchant bankers of Great Britain, except in so far as they are accumulating wealth from the transport and auction of slaves. The man in the street knows little about this and cares less.
It is this apathy of the public that the Royal Navy in general and Adam in particular must battle. It might be easy to die for your country when the enemy is French or Spanish, but when it is a slave runner, the concept becomes a little vague. Fighting in the Bay of Biscay is one thing, fighting in the Bight of Benin is something else entirely.
Kent creates the atmosphere of these times with great care. You are faced with seamen, tossed onto the beach without thought, after being through tremendous hardship and danger. You are also faced with the families that they had left behind and now must support in some form or fashion. Also, there is the aristocracy, both of society and the Royal Navy that must be maintained. These features never go away. One would think that the needs of the Naval aristocracy would decrease as the Navy shrinks - far from it!
Adam Bolitho is a complex man and as I learn more about him, I can see this. From a bastard orphan to a successful naval officer, we have seem him evolve. Yet he is still dogged by his origins - he has never forgotten the days as a youngster fending for himself as his mother became unable to care and support him.
This is a book without the flash and thunder of a fleet action. Now it is a series of actions between schooners and sloops and oared launches. Adam's ship is too big and powerful to be of decisive value except as a resevoir from which to draw men to man the smaller ships. It is this type of action that is honing the skills of the men of Unrivalled and preparing them for the ultimate combat with African pirates.
Throughout the book, we are reintroduced to charecters of the past, Thomas Herrick, Daniel Yovel, Graeme Bethune and others. We see an appearance by Richard's daughter Elizabeth as she starts to connect to Adam for after all, in spite of birth situation, he is her closest surviving relative and vice versa.
This book is a continuation of the Bolitho family saga. It continues to add to what we know of the family, even if it is only in small details, such as the name of Adam's mother. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and a fine addition to my library. I would recommend it to anyone who has read even a few of the preceeding books on the Bolitho family.
Relentless Pursuit.......2002-01-05
Too many story lines and the ships jumping from the Med to Engalnd to Africa to the Med with people jumping in and out and and a new woman thrown in. Can't anyone in this series fall in love over a period greater than one day? THe action is limited and the book doesn't stand alone. Unless you have rtead the first 24, don't start here
Bring Richard back, Mr. Kent!.......2001-12-24
This novel is tagged as a Richard Bolitho novel. It's not. Mr. Kent chose to kill Richard Bolitho off two novels ago and left us with his whining nephew, Adam, who annoyed me from the very beginning. I'd been reading of Richard's many and varied adventures for 25 years and Mr. Kent kills him off in one paragraph!? How did faithful, loyal Allday feel? Who knows? Mr. Kent chose to totally disregard his friendship with Richard. I was so disgusted I donated the book to my local library. Adam is a whiner. The women in Kent's latest novels have the men wrapped around their little fingers. Geez! Where's the fabulous comraderie of the earlier novels, the triumphant battles and the agony of defeat? Also, he killed off most of the wonderful characters I so enjoyed (thank goodness dear Allday was spared, the *only* character left I can empathize with). So no. I will not read another Adam novel.

Book Description
Al-Qa'ida war on America did not start on September 11th, 2001. Just ask the Diplomatic Security Service. It was on February 26, 1993, that the United States was first attacked on its own soil by foreign terrorists. A zealous band of holy warriors determined to punish the U.S for stationing troops in Saudi Arabia packed over a ton of home-made explosives into the back of a rented van. They drove their bomb across the Hudson from New Jersey, maneuvered it through the downtown traffic and parked it in the underground garage at the Vista Hotel, beneath the twin towers of the World Trade Center. They lit a long fuse, which allowed them time to get back to New Jersey to watch the results of the explosion on CNN. They hoped to topple one mammoth tower into the other and kill 250,000 people or more. They ended up killing six and wounding over 1,000.Most of the group was captured within a week, but the mastermind behind the attack, Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, had gone immediately to JFK airport to fly to Pakistan. Before leaving, he phoned the Associated Press and claimed responsibility for the bombing in the name of the Arab Liberation Army, though in fact he was one of Osama bin Laden's top military lieutenants firing the opening salvo of a total war against the United States.A succession of such brazen crimes has revealed complex connections among terrorist groups with an implacable hostility to Western civilization. Outrages such as the assassination of Jewish Defense League founder Meier Kahane, a huge plot in the Philippines to plant bombs on intercontinental airlines and to assassinate the Pope, the bombing of U.S. embassies, culminating in the African embassy bombings of 1998, the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, and the devastating attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, have made it clear that a worldwide network of terrorists led by Osama bin Laden is in a state of total war against the United States. On the front lines combating these terrorists in 150 countries around the world have been the 1200 agents of the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service. A little-known but highly effective branch of the government, the DSS is the one arm of federal law enforcement permanently stationed overseas in the roughest precincts of the world. These agents maintain close ties to local police commanders in many countries, and can entice informants with bounties of up to, after September 11, $25,000,000. After a relentless international search, it was DSS agents in Pakistan who captured Ramzi Yousef. DSS agents have been in the vanguard of the War on Terrorism since before it was declared. In Relentless Pursuit, Samuel M. Katz reviews the escalating series of terrorist attacks on the US of the last decade and more, in many foreign countries and finally in New York and Washington. In the process, he tells the gripping story of the DSS and its agents, protecting us and our representatives here and abroad. Katz's detailed, personal, on-the-ground anecdotes bring home the contexts and linkages of the War on Terrorism that has been fought on our behalf by the DSS since the 1980s. Relentless Pursuit is a stirring tribute to an unsung group of brave Americans. AUTHORBIO: Samuel M. Katz and has written more than twenty books and over 100 articles on Middle East security issues, international terrorism, police and military special operations. His articles have appeared in Playboy, Esquire, and Jane's Intelligence Review. He is editor-in-chief of Special Ops, a journal dedicated to profiles of military and law enforcement special operations units worldwide, and has created documentaries on this topic for the Discovery Channel, AE, and The Learning Channel. Samuel M. Katz also lectures law enforcement agencies around the country on counter-terrorism and the history of terrorism.
Customer Reviews:
MAKE UP YOUR OWN FACTS AUTHOR.......2006-02-09
Samuel M. Katz gets it wrong! Pakistani intelligence arrested Ramzi Yousef in Pakistan due to a Pakistani informer ( a new terrorist recruit) decided to cash in on the reward. THE FBI, THE CIA, AND THE DSS HAD LITTLE TO DO with his capture! Ramzi was wanted worldwide for everything from trying to assasinate pakistani leaders to the WTC bombing and after his arrest Pakistani intel turned Ramzi over to the DDS and they flew him back to the U.S. for prosecution.
This book contains lots of unattributable interviews and sources, no index, no bibliography and the back cover reveals nothing about the author's credentials. It is unlikely that U.S. or Pakistani intelligence granted any interviews with this author and retired officials would not reveal any info. due to the current nature of the subject matter today. So the contents of the book can't be trusted.
Relentless Pursuit: The DSS and the Manhunt for the All-Qaed.......2004-02-09
Extraordinary page-turner...I would like to register my demand that a sequel be written immediately about the Diplomatic Security Service! The people of DSS are clearly heroes who do not get the credit that they so richly deserve for their incredible valor and sacrifice.
A Classic True Account of America's Global Heroes.......2003-09-05
This is the first book to truly talk of the efforts of DSS, the State Department's little known yet all-important law enforcement entity. While other books about America's war against terrorism have focused on the shortcomings of the CIA and FBI in stopping al-Qaeda in its tracks, this book focuses on America's first true victory in this bloody struggle--the capture of World Trade Center bombing mastermind Ramzi Yousef--and how the handwriting for attacks such as 9/11 had been on the wall for years.
Other accounts might pick and steal from this book's true stories of the federal agents who serve this nation in some of the most distant global outposts in the world, but Katz's amazing book remains an original and an American classic.
The only book about DSS.......2003-04-20
The Diplomatic Security Service is most probably one of the newest federal law enforcement agencies in the United States.
So almost nobody know nothing about it.
But Mr. Katz do know these guys. Almost an insider look.
In a way the book is a companion to the documentary Badges without borders. Explain in great detail their work fighting terrorism and have a brief explanation about their role protecting U.S: diplomats all around the world and foreign ambassadors and representatives in U.S. soil. These are the guys behind Secretary of State Colin Powell.
The book is well written and in no way is boring. Pay the money without doubt.
An outstanding look at a First Rate Organization.......2003-04-03
This is an extraordinary book on a number of levels. As someone who has worked with DSS agents in the past, I had a good idea of what to expect when I picked it up, but I was still stunned and moved by the quality of Samuel Katz's writing. He has a real flair for personalizing the stories of these men and women who give up so much that we take for granted to serve their country and protect its citizens overseas.
Believe me, the special agents that Katz is profiling are even greater heroes than he describes. They're story deserves to be heard. Thanks to Mr. Katz, it should no longer be understandable for Americans to not recognize the role the DSS plays in protecting them. If you're reading this review, you must have some interest in the subject matter, so go ahead and buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

A fascinating insight into how Toyota conceived, developed and launched its own luxury car brand - Lexus. This remarkable success story will explain how the Japanese giant went from zero to 25hare of the luxury car market in the space of only ten years.
Customer Reviews:
Insightful !.......2005-02-24
This is a great manufacturing love story in which Toyota, an automaker clearly in love with its product, decides to go after the U.S. luxury car buyer, a suitor who has repeatedly ignored its advances. To get America's attention, Toyota must first re-invent itself. It must make itself more handsome (through better styling), improve its physique (be faster, stronger and need less maintenance) and prove its financial management skill (by selling great cars for less). Because time is fleeting and the buyer has many other suitors (Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Nissan, Volvo), Toyota must work fast before its intended lover makes an irrevocable decision and buys someone else's car. Like some other love stories, this is repetitive and suffers from some plain old sloppy editing. But it makes you want to test-drive a Lexus to see what causes such a sensation. We recommend this book to CEOs and sales and marketing executives who dream of producing revolutionary, successful products for the global marketplace. And who would mind getting a little consumer love?

Book Description
This book takes a fun-filled look at the foibles, follies, pratfalls, and unpredictable world of the duck hunter, from the time his alarm rings at 3:00 a.m. until he stumbles into freezing marsh water two hours later, swamping his waders but not dampening his enthusiasm for the sport. Why do duck hunters do it? Sit in driving rain for hours awaiting ducks that may never come? Shiver in freezing boats and blinds in the most inaccessible, not to mention inhospitable, environs imaginable?
Author-photographer Bill Buckley writes about these magic moments with humor and verve, but it is his brilliant color photographs that steal the show. The hapless hunter who watches helplessly as his partner's Suburban backs out of the driveway-and over the gun case that holds his favorite shotgun. Click! The faithful retriever that elegantly lifts its leg and makes a sop of the hunter's blind bag. Click! And the pained expressions on the faces of duck hunters caught in the act of "enjoying" their favorite sport. Click.
Waterfowlers who sometimes question their own sanity can now take heart. "It's all right," Buckley writes, "if you like standing in swamp muck for hours on end. It's okay if your family thinks you're weird. Who cares if your girlfriend diagnoses you as obsessive-compulsive or sadomasochistic?
The important thing is, you're not alone."

Boy, does this book bring back memories of all the happily miserable hours spent hunting. Now we need books about fishing, birding, gardening and similar miserable outdoor activities that bring back such happy memories.
A photographic taste of duck hunting .......2007-01-03
Great photos which capture the extemes waterfowl hunters live to persue their sport. I felt the cold, the dampness and excitement of the duck blind in Buckleys photographs. Great book!
It did the job!.......2006-03-01
My husband and a few of my guy friends are avid waterfowlers. These books (Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling and the Relentless Pursuit of Self-Abuse & Don't Shoot the Decoys: Original Stories of Waterfowling Obsession) were purchased as gifts, and so suited the purpose. Huge amounts of relaying aloud of their content was overheard by any and all in vicinity. An obvious indication to the entertaining aspect these books provided. Many a moment was there a reminiscent feel to the reading - of what is actually experienced in the field. Kudos to the authors!
A must have!.......2005-01-12
This book is a must have for any duck hunter! This book reassured my friends and I that we are not the only ones these things happen to!
Full color photographs illustrate of every stage of the hunt.......2003-03-09
Written and illustrated by waterfowler and photographer Bill Buckley, Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling And The Relentless Pursuit Of Self-Abuse is an adventurous and photographic celebration of the successes, trials, and battles against the elements that determined and dedicated waterfowl hunters endure in pursuit of their sport. Full color photographs illustrate of every stage of the hunt, and are enhanced with an informal and descriptive text of what it is like to be out in the wet and the cold in search of airborne game, making Misery Loves Company an enjoyable and mildly humorous giftbook.

Book Description
Everybody in America knows that Everett Pick has a problem, and they're damned well going to solve it for him. Falsely accused of child molestation, Ev flees across the US to escape sure conviction only to be pursued by militia extremists, the FBI, the sheriff, a psychopathic computer genius, New Age nuts, media leeches, his girlfriend and his ex-wife. "Everett Pick" is a comic tragedy set in the strangest place on earth-America in the early 1990s.

Poor Everett!.......2001-02-05
Being a book store manager (company not to be named), it is seldom in modern writing that I come across anything that I can fully and whole heartily suggest as GREAT reading. Mr. Fisher writes in a style, darkly humorous, reminicent of Kurt Vonnegut while having having the bursts of absolute laughter akin to David Sedaris.
I despise the term "page turner" but Relentless Pursuit is such a book. The characters are vividly portrayed, Vern in particular. Vern (the antagonist) is the total and utter repersentation of what mankind can become if unchecked, what is evil in all of us. Everett, or plain Ev, the Jesus-like figure of the book. Poor Ev weathers all, doubts, fears, yet triumphs in his ability to accept fate.
The Relentless Pursuit of Everett Pick is quite possibly one of the best books from a new author I have ever had the privilage to read.
Excellent Action in the Relentless Pursuit of Everitt Pick.......2000-08-17
Hard to put down, I found "The Relentless Pursuit of Everett Pick" to be thoroughly enjoyable - full of gritty characters, action, and misadventures. Everett Pick is a schoolteacher falsely accused of a crime he didn't commit. Faced with sure conviction, he's forced to flee across the American Midwest to the Badlands and the Black Hills, only to face troubles he never dreamed of.
Be warned: Everett Pick is not your standard hero! In fact, at first he seems a pitiful loser when he wakes up and discovers that his beautiful, but deadly girlfriend, Mary Fae, is attempting to kill him with a shovel because he's planning to leave her to return to his ex-wife, Juliet. Escaping with his life and not much else, the broke Everett drives 600 miles to his ex-wife's home in Black Hills dressed only in his underwear.
Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be better off in Juliet's hands. An advocate of a New Age Religion, Juliet worships the mystical "Ascended Beings" and becomes more and more out of touch with reality as the story unfolds. Her sole purpose is to attract followers to worship the Ascended, no matter what the costs to herself and those around her.
Ev Pick undertakes a series of misadventures from being shot in the leg and falling down a canyon while avoiding and interacting with various characters in the Black Hills town of Rapid City. Examples include the wife-beating militia leader, Vernon Sarvis and the town's preacher, Moses Brubaker, who seems to have committed all of the 7 Deadly Sins of life (especially Gluttony and Greed!)
Despite all his misfortunes, Ev displays courage and compassion while under siege from the militia members, the FBI, the sheriff, his ex-wife, and a murderous computer genius. You glimpse the tenderness that Everett can exhibit when he becomes attached to the doomed Lorena, the 18-year-old pregnant wife of the heartless Vern Sarvis.
An unlikely partnership forms between Everett and the local Sheriff, Lonny Gunderson, who comes a close second to Everett for surviving mishaps such as a treacherous deputy and militia members armed to the teeth. Together, Ev and Lonny discover a dark conspiracy unfolding in Black Hills that threatens the life of everyone living there... but will they be too late to uncover the truth?
While reading the book, I kept wanting to know what else could possibly happen to Everett and how or if he would survive his next mishap. I learned that despite all his faults, Everett Pick was a true hero in every sense, regardless of my original opinion. If you enjoy reading Stephen King, you'll love Steven Fisher's book.
I have only one warning... this book is filled with coarse language so I don't recommend it for young readers.

The Relentless Pursuit of Everett Pick By Steven Fisher
Ifyou want to know the meaning of the word "rocks" in today'svernacular, as in: "It rocks!", look in the dictionary under: Pick, Everett!
The novel is a howling, rollicking, roller-coaster ride that's filled with action, complexities (not TOO complex!), new religion, old antagonists, spousal abuse, Indian lore, and some of the most unforgettable characters you will ever meet in a book . . . and all of it is wrapped around the lovable, unflappable, unfortunate Everett Pick.
If I ever marry again, it will be to a man like Pick. He knows himself and his limits and he functions methodically without distraction while the whole world crumbles around him. He touches the lives of so many people, yet remains unchanged, undaunted . . . just Pick.
You'll meet Pick in the majestic mountains where Mt. Rushmore dominates the landscape, but it will not be a sight-seeing tour. Oh, no, this is pure humor/action fiction at its finest. Rushmore is just the backdrop for the collision between a high-powered militia organization, a New Age religious group, corporate America, a sociopathic computer genius, and old friends trying to simply make a life for themselves.
On this ride of all epic rides, Everett Pick brings along his ex-love (who whacks him over the head with a shovel at the opening of the book!)...his ex-wife, who starts her own New Age following by listening to the "Ascended Beings" in her head and erecting a towering telephone-pole "power antenna" to make contact with those beings...an old friend, who is a tired, beat-up sheriff trying to do his best to maintain law and order... a young woman who is beaten regularly and unmercifully by her car-salesman husband...and a magnificent stallion, a Dutch warmblood, who provides some of the very intense moments of the action with mystery and majesty.
There are many, many more colorful, unforgettable characters, but why don't you meet them on your own?
Don 't pass up the opportunity to read this book. You will come away with a very big smile on your face and a lovely warm feeling in your heart and a quick intake of breath at the ending. You will love it -- guaranteed.
