Book Description
Meet Lisa, Guy, Keri, Graham, Helen, and Josh. With a tangle of secret lusts hovering amongst them, it only takes one betrayal to trigger a sudden collapse of social and sexual decorum. As these young Londoners fall in and out of bed with one another in a series of sexual adventures, misadventures, accidents, triumphs, and failures, casual indiscretions begin to have irreversible consequences. By turns funny and sad, embarrassing and moving, The Love Hexagon asks how deep loyalties within a group of friends run when eyes and hearts begin to stray.

Yawn.......2007-04-21
Six people in London (3 men, 3 women) are trying to find meaningful relationships. And that is, I'm afraid, about it.
The main thing to be said about this novel is that it was a huge disappointment after "Are You Experienced?" The characters are at once crudely drawn and unsympathetic. By about 50 pages in (perhaps not as long as that) was was neither convinced by them, nor could I have cared less what happened to them. The dialogues were tedious and the sex scenes unnecessary - if this book was meant to be a comedy, then it failed for me. Even the writing was careless - frequent (and again unnecessary) tense changes just adding to the irritation.
The best that can be said of it is that it did not detain me for too long. I hope this howler is an aberration and Sutcliffe's other works are better.

First book I've read by Sutcliffe, and despite the other reviews I liked it quite a bit..........2006-11-01
While the plot might be nothing new, I really thought the author revealed some good insights into the nature of relationships and people's unspoken motivations in them. In some ways, it reminded me of Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity," without the music references. Generally it was well-written, and I found it far more entertaining and believable than the couple of novels I've read by Mike Gayle and other lad lit authors.
Read it if only to say you've read it.......2004-12-07
I'm not familiar with the author's works or reputation (if any) but a line from the book's blurb caught my attention: "Sometimes, when Cupid gets you in his sights there's only one sensible thing to do: duck." And that is the best thing that I can say about this work.
I'm one person liable to read too much between the lines but, on this occasion, there's not much in-betweens to read into. How deep, after all, are the words "shag" and "f***," except if it reaches the esophagus and shattered my ordinary conception of "long"? I'm also appreciative of dark and/or decadent humor but while sex can really be either funereal or hilarious, I only saw them used in this work to show that it happened and to give the characters an opportunity to speak the words "shag" and "f***." Love, while used in the title, is terribly missing, except that the characters, who spoke like each other anyway, probably think that the last choice in the Love Hexagon is the One, by process of elimination.
Predictable, unoriginal, unbelievable.......2001-10-17
I picked up "Love Hexagon" after reading and enjoying "Are you Experienced" by William Sutcliffe. In one sentence, if I had not read any of Sutcliffe's other works, I would have put this book down after 15 pages. I felt no emotion for the characters and generally found this book to be unoriginal, extremly predictable, and unbelievable Let me explain.
1. This book is unoriginal because it focuses on 6 twentysomething friends who live and work in London. (Seems to be a popular theme these days).
2. The story line is beyond predictable. After the first couple of chapters any capable reader can guess who will end up with whom.
3. Finally this book is unbelievable. All six characters have the ability to discover exactly what they are feeling, why they are acting the way they are, what they should do and what the other person is thinking. There is no fumbling, and no guessing when it comes to figuring the situation out.
If you are going to read anything by Sutcliffe, go for "Are you Experienced" and leave "Love Hexagon" on the shelf.
Hilarious, and so true.......2001-06-03
An entertaining dissection of the workings of the soul of 3 British (very British) couples. I particularly enjoyed how the author shows the vanity of his characters who go at extraordinary lenght not to be "found out" -- not realizing that they didn't fool anybody in the first place. It takes depth to write about ordinary people. I found myself is those characters.
