Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Provocative, appealing and controversial.......2006-08-02

Fomenko has succeeded to convincingly demonstrate the misconception about what "history" factually is... It is fiction and -like we can read and judge for ourselves- no science. It indeed is "make belief" only. I "discovered" Fomenko while studying the "old" history of Al Andaluz, Spain. Having found too many contradictions in available data, having seen too many forgeries as to pretend the importance of christianity for its decline, I ventured out to find Fomenko, who convinced me that we know little if anything for sure of the epoch before the XI-century. However, the integration of the Arabic-Islamic cultural history into the heavily distorted Western fails... There are some attempts to fit "the budding new religion" (Islam) into Fomenko's scheme, but they are too weak to be taken seriously and too often focussing on Turkey as the region where things started to influence the West, which is untrue at all.
Islam certainly was no "new religion" in the X-century. That the highly cultivated Al Andaluz ruler Mohammed-I could have been "mirrored" down in time into some myth about the "illiterate" founder of Islam itself is highly speculative. Nevertheless, Fomenko convinces me about the processes that were involved in forging a christian history. Intriguing and controversial as his books are, I recommend them as to rethink our current position in time and space and simply verify what was claimed. It is a "good" book, but not for bedtime reading... Mundus vult decipi, the world wants to be cheated. Fomenko's readers will understand why.

5 out of 5 stars pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.......2006-02-16

Traces of white wine were found in Tutankhamen's tomb however there were no record of white wine in Egypt until the 3rd century AD, 1600 years after the young pharaoh died according to the traditional chronology. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/mg18925395.400
It can be interpreted as a contribution towards New Chronology theory that pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for women going through the "change"!.......2004-06-29

This book is a lot like a "What to Expect When You're Expecting" for those of us going through menopause. It's so easy to read and to find whatever information you need about pretty much anything having to do with menopause and the time leading up to it (which I now know is called "perimenopause"). Every woman going through the change should get this book!

5 out of 5 stars A must for anyone going through perimenopause.......2004-05-13

After looking through many books on perimenopause, I found this to be one of the most comprehensive and the easiest to read. The book is very balanced and gave me a much better picture of the issues that we face as we go through perimenopause and the evidence for the different remedies available to help. The authors cover hormones, natural remedies, and other therapies in a way that I could clearly understand what we do and don't know about them and what the advantages and disadvantages of using the different approaches. I felt that the book was right on the mark in so many areas. It was really helpful because I was having problems with my periods and when I went to see my doctor, I already knew what to expect and what tests would be done and why. It helped greatly ease my mind because I felt so much better prepared. This is definately a book to keep on hand as a reference.

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2004-03-29

This book is exceptionally well written. The authors have taken complex topics and have explained them in down-to-earth terms. Any woman going through this adventure can find herself on these pages and understand what and why things are happening as they are.

5 out of 5 stars The Book for Ladies in Menopause.......2004-03-26

I highly recomend this book, Healthy Transitions, by Dr. Edmund S. Kim. I shared this book with my other church friends and advocate it to all women. I especially enjoyed the section on What's With My Moods? Ch. 4 in the book.

    Book Description

Julia Kristeva has sparked considerable debate among feminist, political and psychoanalytic thinkers, securing her status as one of the most formidable figures in twentieth-century critical theory. However, her precise relevance to the study of literature can be hard for new readers to fathom. This volume explores Kristeva's definitions of literature, her methods for analyzing it, and the theoretical ground on which those endeavors are based.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-02-04

Who would have thought that the girl from high school that used to fall asleep in Social Studies (Mr. Ahrens class) and sneezes 10 times in five seconds is now this big English Professor? Cool! Enjoy this thoughtful look at literature and society.

5 out of 5 stars excellent reading of a difficult thinker.......2005-04-29

This book is a superb introduction: it is clear, fair, informed, and judicious. Becker-Leckrone neither panders nor evades, and such equanimity is rare in literary theory, especially when dealing with and digesting a figure as complicated and, yes, outright obscure as Kristeva. BL's analyses are thoughtful and diligent. A triumph of delicate taste and careful reading. Anyone remotely interested in contemporary theory MUST buy this book.

    Book Description

Psychotherapist, mother, and author Christine Conners never doubts that the decision of a professional woman to stay home with her young children is the right one. In From High Heels to Bunny Slippers, she supports their decision to personally care for their children with compelling new research on childcare and its potential negative effects on young children, as well as her own firsthand experience as a co-founder of the NASA child development centers. Unlike previous books aimed at this growing readership, Conners recognizes and addresses mothers’ adjustment problems that, like any major life event, arise from the decision to quit your job and stay home. She offers tools and strategies that gently lead the professional woman from the challenge of her work world into the new challenges of parenting full-time. She sympathizes, as a stay-at-home mother herself, with the immediate frustrations of loss of personal identity, financial difficulties, depression, and marital discord. As a mental health professional, she offers her proven techniques for forming a strong new identity as a parent when you leave your career, for addressing financial woes through part-time work and money-saving strategies, for overcoming social isolation, depression, anger, and stress, and for finding personal fulfillment during this special time with your young children.

5 out of 5 stars Broken in Slippers.......2006-12-22

I had the rare opportunity to meet this author, and I had been delighted to read her book, but Christine Conners is so down to earth you can't help but feel you know her as you read this book. Like so many of my stay at home mother friends, we get a lot of slack by society about our choices to raise our childern ourselves. Christine covers all the stress factors involved in the most importnat job a woman can ever have. I have survived many " Picasso Parenting" moments and felt alone and trapped at times myself, this book really helped me adapt to my new career choice and feel more comfident at a mother. It is a must read for any woman who is even thinking about being a stay at home mom or even a mom who works part time. It is a book I often revisit when I need a mommy pick me up.

5 out of 5 stars Hillarious insight to being a full time mother.......2006-11-18

Most of my reading time was spent like a cheerleader..."You go girl", "That's right sister", "Now you've hit the nail on the head". I really appreciated the fact that the author is in the trenches now after a professional career. This gave her validation to her suggestions ranging on grocery shopping with kids in tow to finances on one income. All the stories gave me the understanding that I am not alone in this "job". Thanks for bringing some humor to my daily life that not many people seem to understand!

    5 out of 5 stars Difficult Transition.......2006-11-09

A great resource for stay at home mothers who are struggling with losing their identity. I stayed home for 12 years and can relate to every issue Christine addresses. I encourage mothers who are home with their children and those who are considering staying home to read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Happy in my bunny slippers.......2006-10-09

There are so many factors involved in being a mom and staying at home. Where do we turn for advice? I sure need it? Wow and here is this great book, From High Heels to Bunny Slippers. Where have you been? I'm over here hidden behind the steering wheel and overflowing grocery bags being an at-home mom, air traffic controller and part-time female goddess deluxe. Lucky for me there is a great book I have been reading that helps me deal with my stay-at-home momhood; From High Heels to Bunny Slippers, by Christine Conners, MA, Therapist and Counselor, ISBN: 1-933102-14-4.

And what is it like being home alone? There are the issues of scheduling, the kids, the pets, the animals, the house and all the social issues, and these are just the home issues, no longer the paid for job issues. I get overwhelmed by the daily minutiae that "must" be taken care of just to keep the ship steering clear in the channel every day.

This book is written in a fresh and vibrant voice. Mrs. Conners is in the trenches with us as we plough away each day. This book has helped me cope with some of the loneliness and repetition that rarely occurred when I used to work in an office, but now work alone in a home with kids as clients.

I wear my bunny slippers proudly. Granted they are stained with last nights dinner and the left one got left outside in the rain, but the conversations, advice and thoughtful tone of this book have helped me in so many ways.

This is a must buy and must read for anyone considering the joys and dramas of being a center stage at home parent. Thank you Mrs. Conner for your frank view into my world and for giving me a voice in the otherwise overwhelming din of my lovely, busy, noisy life.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2006-09-09

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read and it just reaffirmed many of my own thoughts and feelings about staying at home. It is nice to know that stay at home moms are not out there all alone.

Nowadays teenage girls--at least those depicted in books--seem to wade through rivers of pain to reach womanhood. Time and again we hear of girls tempering their voices and leaving behind skills and interests like cast-off baggage. And small wonder, when faced with serious issues such as sexual abuse, teen motherhood, drugs, lack of a spiritual toehold, and the hoary chestnut that guys don't like smart, outspoken, athletic girls. To counter such sapping influences, K. Wind Hughes, a onetime teen mother, and Linda Wolf started a weekly focus group for girls designed to hurdle ubiquitous mumbles of "I don't know" and draw out personality and desires. Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun mines this rich lode, pairing the girls with an extraordinary array of mentors who have struggled with some of the same challenges. Poet Maya Angelou, peace activist and Goddess worshiper Starhawk, songwriters the Indigo Girls, and psychologist Carol Gilligan are among those who point the way.

    Book Description

Making the transition into womanhood is a time of great potential, challenge, discovery, courage and confusion. Girls often face the journey alone, risking their sense of self and purpose along the way.

Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun provides validation, support and vision through powerful and compelling autobiographical stories gathered from more than forty teenage girls, over half of whom participated weekly in a two-year focus group. By sharing themselves intimately on topics ranging from bulimia, anorexia, body image, peer pressure and terminal illness, to empowered relationships with males, lesbianism, pregnancy, motherhood, drug exploration, sexuality, abuse and suicide, these young women explore the process of discovery, healing and developing self-esteem. Candid narratives are accompanied by interviews with accomplished women mentors.

In Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun, women and girls will recognize themselves and each other and the ageless and timeless struggle of all young women to evolve to be who and what they are.

Few books on the development of adolescent girls are compelling enough to actually be read by the girls themselves. Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun is the exception, with young women the primary audience. Professors and students of Women's Studies courses, educators, professional counselors and parents will also find here a wellspring of insight and understanding. Photographs by world-renowned photographer, Linda Wolf, elevate this book to one of absorbing beauty.

Women mentors in the book are:
    Bella Abzug
    Michele Akers
    Maya Angelou
    Byllye Avery
    Angela Davis
    Riane Eisler
    Carol Gilligan
    the Indigo Girls
    Jean Kilbourne
    Wilma Mankiller
    Anisa Romero
    Starhawk
    Lindsay Wagner
    Barbara Walker
    Marion Woodman

    K. Wind Hughes and Linda Wolf are co-founders and co-directors of the Daughters/Sisters Project based on Bainbridge Island in Washington State. The Project holds workshops, classes and ritual gatherings for girls and women and facilitates adolescent focus groups for both genders as well as intergenerational dialogs between teens and elders.

2 out of 5 stars way too mature for young girls!.......2004-08-16

I wanted to send a gift to a 12 yr. old girl to mark the beginning of menstruation and I choose this book after reading several reviews. I was horrified when her parents called to tell me about some of the testimonies from the later chapters. Everthing from rape, to 3-way sex, to teenage prostitution is discussed vividly. This book is intended for a much older audience, particularly survivirs of abuse.

    5 out of 5 stars Inspiring.......1999-08-09

I cannot begin to express my fondness for this book. It is truely excellent. I was given the book for my 16th birthday. It has opened my eyes to what I really am and has taught me to love myself for who I am. The Daughter/Sisters project, the inspiration begin the book, is an excellent program. Infact, the author of the book lives in my home town. I was able to meet her, and since knowing her, I have become best friends with her daughter, one of the young women to tell her story in the book. It is a pleasure to know the minds behind such a wonderful book. I highly recommend it for those of you in search of you identity.

5 out of 5 stars incredibly heart felt, unbelievably brave.......1999-06-15

"Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun" is the most enlightening book I have ever read into the hearts and souls of young girls and young women. It confirms every fear and every joy I ever had as a young girl. I only wish this book and the Focus Group inwhich it was born from were around when I was growing up. Even today--in my 30's--it spoke to me and made me feel I can make a difference in the upbringing of my young niece. I highly reccommend this book to everyone who ever wanted to make a difference in the lives of young women--and, also, young men.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome perspective on the lives of females..........1998-07-11

This book is a great representation of the problems and triumphs of females. I can't say that I identified with all the stories but I found them to be a learning experience. The authors of this book and many of the girls who told their stories are neighbors of mine, and it was a little strange to read about people I know like that. But over all it was excellent!

5 out of 5 stars A must have book for daughters; sons; mothers; and fathers.......1998-03-20

This book is a "lessons learned" compilation from young women and "well-known" women. It is a confirmation of experiences that all of us may or may not have had that shows that we are not alone out there. I wish that this book would have been out there for me when I was a teenager, so much that I ended up purchasing 5 extra copies, (one) to set aside for my 7 year old daughter. This is a book that "our" sons and fathers should read, to not only understand us better, but to better understand themselves. This book provides an empowerment for all to be open to reaching up and running with life. It is a salve in healing wounds and assisting us in our evolution as human and spiritual beings.

"Home is the heartland of strangeness," writes anthropologist and English professor Mary Catherine Bateson; there are always parts of others, even our closest intimates, that are utterly unknowable. Full Circles, Overlapping Lives explores such "strangeness" between individual lives by turning not only to her family history (she is the daughter of Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson) but to the stories of her own students.

Bateson teaches a class on "women's life histories" at Spelman College, an all-black women's college in Atlanta, and carefully assembles her students from traditional-age undergrads and older women from outside the school who can offer a different generational perspective. Together they investigate questions about their knowledge of the self and of others through reading multicultural histories of women and by writing their own stories. Bateson is at her best when she draws out her students, finding parallels in their stories with her own well-considered anthropological observations. She's less effective when she wanders off into generalizations about how to live that seem overly didactic and sometimes outdated--the suburbs, for instance, are no longer quite the all-white 1950s hideaway she imagines, where those who don't like the "smell of other people's cooking" escape. Readers who want new tools for thinking about learning, as well as those who loved Bateson's 1989 bestseller Composing a Life, will nevertheless find much to enjoy. --Maria Dolan

      Book Description

In Full Circles, Overlapping Lives, cultural anthropologist Mary Catherine Bateson gives us a new way of looking at ourselves, our families, our communities-indeed at the very concept of identity in a changing world. Writing with the clarity and gentleness that touched the many readers of her bestselling book Composing a Life, Bateson opens our eyes here to the meaning of life in a culture at the crossroads.

Bateson begins with a premise at once startling and deeply resonant: we live with strangers-and with strangeness-not only in the shifting worlds of our cities and neighborhoods, but within our families and ourselves. Yet as she explores her own life and the lives of her remarkable students, an even more profound insight emerges: strangeness and love are not contradictory. Listening across generations, weaving together the shining strands of family narratives, pondering the questions of fidelity and connection, exploration and illness, vision and improvisation, Bateson creates a prism through which we can all glimpse facets of our true selves.

At once intimate and far-reaching, haunting and reassuring, Full Circles, Overlapping Lives reflects the wisdom and the love of an extraordinary lifetime.

5 out of 5 stars dialogue across difference.......2000-05-19

Mary Catherine Bateson has written another account of her experiences as teacher and learner. Her earlier work with Johnnetta Cole led to a seminar at Spelman of intergenerational women. Although the age, background and socioeconomic status of the participants were vastly different, it comes as little surprise if you know Bateson, that the common themes of self-actualization, faith and truthfulness to self shone through. What is most remarkable is the trust Bateson establishes which enables both students and elders to share so much of their lives so candidly. Interspersed with reflections on their lives, are their thoughts on women from the course readings. If you can't get to George Mason and take a seminar with Bateson, this might just be the next best thing!

      5 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking.......2000-04-18

This book is an excellent read. Very accessible and full of insight. It is subtle in its observations and friendly in its tone. The people you meet and their stories are fascinating and the generational dialogue is worthwhile - anyone who seeks to understand how relationships and lives are changing will enjoy this. Bravo to Ms. Bateson!
