Book Description

Woman Hater

Everyone in the office described the boss's mysterious older brother as wary of the female of the species--a real woman hater. He'd been burned in the past, and now was twice shy, to say the least. So when Nicole White had to travel with her ailing employer to his brother's home in Montana, she was prepared for the worst.

What she found was a man more roughly masculine than any she'd ever met.

But Winthrop Christopher's distrust of women ran straight to the bone. Nicki knew she should avoid him, but she couldn't hide from the feelings he stirred in her. Could she ever teach this woman hater to love again?

If Winter Comes

Charismatic Phoenix mayor Bryan Moreland had already won the devotion of his constituents and was well on his way to getting reporter Carla Maxwell's vote…until she found out that the hunky leader wasn't all he claimed to be. Rumor had it the popular politician was an embezzler. It was just a rumor, Carla told herself. As a reporter she'd have to get to the bottom of it; as a woman, she wanted nothing more than to lose herself in sexy Mayor Moreland's arms. Or was that exactly where he wanted her, for reasons other than love and seduction?

3 out of 5 stars It's ok for a rainy day.......2007-06-02

I've just finished reading the book, and I am wondering what made me spent so much money in it (I live in Argentina so I paid the price plus the delivery cost). It's romance, but sad one. The heroines seem to believe they deserve to be treated bad just because of a tiny mistake, and the heroes..... they are rough, and bad tempered and treat the heroines very badly. When I finish reading a romance book, I'm usually happy, but this books made me sad.
It's an ok reading for a rainy day.... if you want to feel sad afterwards.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite from Ms. Palmer!.......2007-05-24

Ms. Palmer is one of the best romance novelist. Her book is the first romance I've read and it sure is not the last! She brings up many great stroies that you will love to read. If you're looking for a fun, tender, loving, care, especially, the happy ever after ending! read Ms. Palmer's books.
I find it's so romantic when the male character who always seems rough around the edge become quite smitten once he meets the innocent young girl. However hard he tries to resist her in the begining will soon find it's impossible and has to surrender body, heart and soul.
All in all, it's a double thumb up. I practically will have to look for her books somemore to read.

Two Diana Palmer Classics, both reprints are solid stories well worth reading or re-reading. Both men may appear difficult or non-approachable initially but prove well-worth the effort in the end. Sure to please true DP fans.

These two stories are both good fast reading. They are reprints of the
earlier titles, but still worth reading again. If you collect DP you will
be glad to have these in hardback.

2 out of 5 stars Definitely Not Worth Buying or Reading!.......2005-04-27

This one is another one of the hugely over-rated books of DP's.... This book just wasn't developed well at all emotionally, & does it make any sense to anybody that a father'd lie about his own daughter & make her out to be a gold-digger in front of other people simply bcs. they R mad at each other at the moment? (The storyline is just simply quite unbelievable....)

5 out of 5 stars WAS EXCELLENT IN '97 - STILL GREAT!.......2003-05-06

Finally a lady I could really like.

Nicole White of the rich and famous Whites of Kentucky, has given up all the riches of her family and taken a job in Chicago. She has finally gotten qualified and hired as a secretary at the Christopher Corporation and works for Gerald Christopher.

Nicky, at 22, is quite happy with her job and agrees to go to Montana with her boss, Gerald, who is fighting a stomach ulser.

Ah, but now she learns that Winthrop Christopher is a woman hater because his fiancee caused a wreck and just about killed him and then walked out on him when she thought he would be an invalid.

Nicky has become acquainted with Sadie Todd and finds out that she lives near the Christopher ranch. Ah boy, there is a powerful attraction [and a lot of breast baring] between Winthrop and Nicole and jealosy rears its ugly head when Gerald and Nicky are talking about anyone taking her away from Gerald.
Winthrop gets scalded again. [grin]

And you know what hits the fan when Domonic White, 42 and his girl friend, Carol, 27 comes to the Christopher ranch for hunting.

Yeah! Nicky refuses to have an affair with Winthrop even though he admits to needing a woman but will not entertain any thoughts of marriage. What a bitter guy.

He refuses her love - she refuses an affair - they separate when Gerald goes back to Chicago - she refuses any phone calls from Montana and ends up visiting with her father and Carol.

What a Christmas present --

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- Definitely great and a keeper for my shelf.

3 out of 5 stars Good to add to your collection.......2001-04-07

When I found this book I was sooo happy because it was one for DP"s earlier books and I could not find it anywhere. It was an good read not to her usual standards however. The heroine works Christopher, brother of the hero, and accompanies him to his brothers home for a month of vacation-work. Since the hero believes that she is a rich woman he has no use for her, since he has been hurt in the past by who loved money more than him. Diana tries to squeeze in a secondary story with Christopher and his true love, but she only ends up making it seem forced and wrote it to fill in some blanks. The story with the heroine trying to heal her relationship with her father was better. This is in the same line as her later book "Blind Promises". If you find it do get it, nice item for your collection.

    Book Description

This Broadview edition pairs two of Frances Burney's linked comedies. They both present the character of Lady Smatter, a "femme savante" whose lineage may be traced back to Molière; they both centre on the misfortunes of the "elle" figure, the dispossessed heiress and wife who appears frequently in Burney's fiction; and they both criticize a culture of misogyny that breeds suspicion and resentment. The Witlings, lighter and more comic, derives from late seventeenth-century conventions; The Woman-Hater, more melodramatic, both expresses and warns against the excessive sensibility of romanticism. Together, these two plays constitute a miniature history of English drama from the Restoration to the French Revolution and beyond.

This edition contains a valuable selection of appendices, including: Burney's "Epilogue to Gerilda"; letters and diary entries; contemporary writings on comedy; and Burney's cast-list for The Woman-Hater.
