Customer Reviews:
This book is a MUST for anyone pursuing peace in their life........2007-03-06
I have to say that besides the Bible, this book changed my life. This book defines in a way that is easy to understand and grasp how much Jesus loves us and the truth about who we are to Him.
This book helps you to understand the lie that satan wants us to believe. That our self esteem equals our performance and other people's opinion. Understanding this lie really changed my life.
In addition, the book gives you prayers to memorize in times of the enemy challenging your thinking and behavior. How to not fear rejection, how to overcome the fear of not meeting people's approval. I recommend this book to anyone who is ready to get this burden off their back. The burden of having everyone else's expectations rule your life. Get your freedom back by really understanding, in depth, how much God loves you and get back the peace in your life that you've been missing. I love this book!!!!! A++++++++++++
This book changed my life.......2007-01-23
This is a very inspiring book. Some of us are in bad relationships and we need to know that we do have value and can improve our life simply by understanding that we have value already. This book shows you how to understand that and apply it to your life.
Excellent book for spiritual growth.......2007-01-10
My husband and I are reading it together. I is helping us see the roots of our disagreements. It is helping us be more kind and understanding with one another.
Really Good!.......2007-01-03
This book really makes you take a second look at yourself. Parts of it are almost too in-depth for me, but I still would recommend the book. It would be a great book to study. Lots of knowledge to be gained!
An excellent resource.......2006-08-30
I read this book some years ago. I had been a Christian 6 years at that time, but its contents were earth-shattering. It woke me up to some of the basic truths of the application of Jesus Christ and His word in my life. It opened my eyes to lies I had believed that had literally tormented me for some years. It helped lay a very strong foundation of self-worth and of freedom, and as I now serve God in full time ministry I still draw on the truths that were so powerfully imprinted on my soul through reading the book. Like Billy Graham, I believe every Christian should read this book.

Book Description
With few exceptions-such as corn and pumpkins-everything edible that's grown in a traditional garden can be raised in a container. And with only one exception-watering-container gardening is a whole lot easier. Beginning with the down-to-earth basics of soil, sun and water, fertilizer, seeds and propagation, The Bountiful Container is an extraordinarily complete, plant-by-plant guide.
Written by two seasoned container gardeners and writers, The Bountiful Container covers Vegetables-not just tomatoes (17 varieties) and peppers (19 varieties), butharicots verts, fava beans, Thumbelina carrots, Chioggia beets, and sugarsnap peas. Herbs, from basil to thyme, and including bay leaves, fennel, and saffron crocus. Edible Flowers, such as begonias, calendula, pansies, violets, and roses. And perhaps most surprising, Fruits, including apples, peaches, Meyer lemons, blueberries, currants, and figs-yes, even in the colder parts of the country. (Another benefit of container gardening: You can bring the less hardy perennials in over the winter.) There are theme gardens (an Italian cook's garden, a Four Seasons garden), lists of sources, and dozens of sidebars on everything from how to be a human honeybee to seeds that are All America Selections.

McGee & Stuckey's Bountiful Container: Create Container Gardens of Vegetables, Herbs, Fruits and Edible Flowers.......2007-06-01
Will enjoy planting plants in containers of vegetables to eat.
Save your money; the best book around for beginners........2007-05-09
This is hands down the best book on container gardening out there. With the exception of the edible flowers section (unless you're into that sort of thing), it's full of excellent information, from back to front. If you're new to container gardening like I was, I'd suggest that you start here with this book. It's readable, organized exceptionally and just generally well-written and thorough.
Full of Joy and Information.......2007-04-12
I love this book and I will be pulling it out often this growing season. It's packed with very specific information on how to grow every imaginable edible plant --from flowers through vegetables and fruit trees--in containers. You will learn when to plant, which varities do best in containers, whether to start with seed or transplants, how to combine plants in a container for beauty and/or successive harvesting, what size container to use, how often to fertilize and with what, when to harvest...the list goes on and on. The writing itself is delightful, from the descriptions and planting instructions for theme gardens (Victorian Splendor, Tea Time, Childrens' Garden just to name a few) to the history of many of the plants and unusual recipes using the bounty of your containers (Begonia Sorbet, Strawberries with Scented
Geraniums and Creme Fraiche, Stuffed Squash Blossoms with Fresh Tomato Sauce)! The Bountiful Container is a joy to read and really makes you want to get out into your garden and start planting. It's both a feel good book and a very informative book--IMO a rare combination in a reference book. I can't say enough, I'm so glad I bought this book.
Second rate container book.......2007-04-03
I heard this book was great. No. I learned nothing new. I'll have to go to library and see what is really helpful.
Awesome!.......2007-03-31
I am so glad I bought this book. I never knew you could grow so much in containers. Their ideas for unique theme container gardens are fabulous. Those ladies cover every plant that is edible that can grown in a container. I highly recommend it and it is helping me not only with my container garden but my regular garden too!

A classic tome of gastronomic science and lore,
On Food and Cooking delivers an erudite discussion of table ingredients and their interactions with our bodies. Following the historical, literary, scientific and practical treatment of foodstuffs from dairy to meat to vegetables, McGee explains the nature of digestion and hunger before tackling basic ingredient components, cooking methods and utensils. He explains what happens when food spoils, why eggs are so nutritious and how alcohol makes us drunk. As fascinating as it is comprehensive, this is as practical, interesting and necessary for the cook as for the scholar.
Book Description
Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking is a kitchen classic. Hailed by Time magazine as "a minor masterpiece" when it first appeared in 1984, On Food and Cooking is the bible to which food lovers and professional chefs worldwide turn for an understanding of where our foods come from, what exactly they're made of, and how cooking transforms them into something new and delicious.
Now, for its twentieth anniversary, Harold McGee has prepared a new, fully revised and updated edition of On Food and Cooking. He has rewritten the text almost completely, expanded it by two-thirds, and commissioned more than 100 new illustrations. As compulsively readable and engaging as ever, the new On Food and Cooking provides countless eye-opening insights into food, its preparation, and its enjoyment.
On Food and Cooking pioneered the translation of technical food science into cook-friendly kitchen science and helped give birth to the inventive culinary movement known as "molecular gastronomy." Though other books have now been written about kitchen science, On Food and Cooking remains unmatched in the accuracy, clarity, and thoroughness of its explanations, and the intriguing way in which it blends science with the historical evolution of foods and cooking techniques.
Among the major themes addressed throughout this new edition are:
On Food and Cooking is an invaluable and monumental compendium of basic information about ingredients, cooking methods, and the pleasures of eating. It will delight and fascinate anyone who has ever cooked, savored, or wondered about food.
Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-06-27
This book is such a pleasure- full of information and presented in an engaging, user-friendly format. My husband and I are really enjoying it!
Science, Technology, Food -- Cooked up for our Enlightenment.......2007-06-24
This is a wonderful book. McGee writes with clarity and passion, and brings to life all the "hidden" science behind food, nutrition, and cooking. Have you ever wondered what's happening when your barista creates a froth on your cappacino? Or why do eggs turn white when you apply heat? What's different between the process of creating white and red wines?
Anyone who loves cooking or food will get hours of enjoyable reading with this book -- and you'd be surprised how useful (and entertaining) this info is at dinner parties!
Note - this isn't a cookbook, nor is it a dry scientific text. But after spending time with it you'll never look (with enjoyment) at food the same way!
Straight to my classics list.......2007-05-23
I love to cook and have done for many years. This book taught me so many things that I'd never thought to ask, but have found invaluable in my cooking.
You really don't know what you don't know until you start reading McGee.
I highly recommend this book as informative, interesting and very readable.
Both fascinating and useful.......2007-05-08
I will keep this short and sweet as others have written excellent reviews.
Cooking is a new obsession for me. My goal is to be an excellent improviser: I want to be able to go through my pantry and fridge and make something creative and delicious, without resorting to recipes. I also want to be able to read a recipe and understand WHY it specifies certain ingredients and certain treatments.
This book is the best foundation for achieving these goals that I've yet seen. If you don't understand the science behind the food and the heat you add to or take away from it, your ability to improvise is limited.
This book is on my nightstand as much as it is in my kitchen. It's not just a reference manual, it's an enjoyable, fascinating, and intelligent read. Well worth the price.
Not enough stars to rate this book's importance to the kitchen nerd.......2007-04-24
The geekish approach to cooking was inspired by Julia Child and her colleagues at l'Ecole des Trois Gourmandes, and is carried proudly today by Alton Brown, Cooks Illustrated magazine, and any number of other people who prefer an analytical approach to their cooking than the doctrinaire methods of the days of teenage wage-slave commis and decades-long apprenticeships. While one cannot underestimate the importance of ramen noodles and Chinese take-out, the geek kitchen has come a long way since the 1980s, and this book is a big chunk of the reason why.
Harold McGee's original On Food and Cooking, published in 1984 and reprinted for years after, was required reading for anyone who wants to know what's going on in their food. In one massive volume, the reader followed many an ingredient from farm to supermarket, and then learned what happened when it came time to cook it. The second edition does not disappoint in that regard, updating much of the material to modern standards, adding things that were far less interesting than they were in 1984, and removing things that were obsolete. The book contains much historical material as well, including information on domestication of food plants, the history of such delicacies as chocolate and beer, and the world-changing effects of the development of things like sugar and coffee as commodities.
The heart of the book, though, is the extensive discussion on the properties and effects of different foods and substances -- the development of cooking to reduce toxicity of wild plants such as beans or manioc, for example, or the chemical intricacies of melting chocolate, kneading dough, or gelatinizing starch. Much attention is paid to doughs, sauces, and even whole chapters on milk and eggs, foundations of much of Western cookery. Many quick-and-dirty chemistry lessons give overviews of how cooks manage basic substances such as proteins, fats, starches, and pigments (such as the notoriously pH-sensitive anthocyanin family). At all times the physics of food preparation loom large in the book, culminating in an entire chapter on cooking methods.
I can't say one way or the other whether this book will appeal to you. There's a large contingent of people who prefer to get the benefits of geek cuisine without having to go in depth with the science behind it, and that's fine, though maybe a wasted opportunity (at least you know what you do will work, though). This book is for someone who wants to go a little more in depth and find out what's really going on when Shirley Corriher puts a vitamin C tablet in her sourdough or the ATK crew adds something odd like gelatin to a meatloaf. If you want to make your food's acquaintance on a deep level, you need this book. It was in 1984 and is now one of the most significant food books of its time.

Overwhelming Information.......2007-05-28
I read this book from the very beginning and made notations where I needed to improve my habits around my alpacas. They now are more relaxed around me and other people. This book is also very heart warming too. Great pictures to help you to understand what it is that these animals require. I am using this book as a reference also.
An awesome book!.......2006-03-09
I started out knowing very little about Camelids but have expanded my knowledge through this book! Marty is an excellent writer and has made my thirst for knowledge even greater. I hope to have a couple of llamas within 2 years or so due to her insight! A must-read for anyone interested in llamas or alpacas.
Superb and to the point!!!.......2006-02-28
I'd been searching for information concerning the simple facts of alpaca rearing. A wonderful suggestion came to me from the owner of the Alpaca Digest, Peggy. I can't thank her enough for all her help and the wonderful suggestion to purchase this book! It truly is full of wonderful information which is going to prove totally useful in our future endeavor of raising alpacas. Thanks so much to Marty - whom I hope to meet one day soon! Good job!
the camelid companion.......2005-10-08
Very informative book on handling camelids although more related to Llamas than Alpacas.
The ULTIMATE training guide for camelids!.......2005-08-28
Having read every book I can get my hands on related to camelids (llamas and alpacas), I have found this book to be the 'end all' in my search for the ideal training program. The secret is that the animals don't need to be trained...the trainers do! This book clearly explains and demonstrates the skills required by the handler (aka 'human') that will transform your experience with your animals a hundred fold. Based upon the Tteam concepts developed by Linda Tellington, Marty McGee Bennett has fine-tuned those concepts as they related to camelids. If all camelid owners were exposed to these teachings, all of the llamas and alpacas would unite and hum "ALLELUIA!"

Customer Reviews:
Reviewing Banks & Banks Mutlicultural 2007 Textbook.......2007-06-27
I was very impress with the material covered in this book. The authors did a thorough job from the historical perspectives of mutlicultural in this country. From the historical to current events that affect multiculture and especially multicultural education. I like the way the incorporated GT students as well as Special Ed students in this book. For these students are also found in the minority cultures and as they pointed out the are so overly represented in the Special Ed programs and not as much in the GT programs. As educators we have more work to do to make sure all students receive an equitable and quality education.
Good Perspective.......2006-04-29
We used this book in our doctoral level Urban Education class this semester. Very informative.
Really difficult to read, but it was a requirement!.......2003-07-05
Such a difficult book to read. It felt as if the authors had 2 chapters of concrete evidence and then took these 2 chapters and tried to expand them to fill an entire book. I felt as if I was having deja-vu throughout my entire reading of it. Some topics that I thought had been clarified again kept popping up and restasted the same idea in a couple pages worth.
The author's need to take a course in which they don't use 6 different words to say the same thing. I read about a paragraph of information and the author's didn't clarify the idea, they kept giving me the run-around. For example: " This race can be an exciting, joyful, enthusiastic, jolly, joyous, blithful, peppy, perky, blessful, and gleeful bunch. " These author's really let you know that they used a Thesaurus, but after a couple hundred pages of reading sentences or paragraphs full of synonyms it really gets annoying.
Excellent tool for a touchy topic.......2000-05-28
I've used this book teaching 10 classes in Multicultural Education for California State University at Hayward. It covers some "hot spots" like gender, special education, race, and social class. I've never had a student who expressed dislike for the book. It provokes dissent, emotions, and great discussions but maintains a well researched and professional style. I would recommend it to any professor of multicultural education and I eagerly await the 4th edition, coming this July!

Good Set.......2007-06-01
Remember Thru The Bible Radio? J Vernon McGee was one of my first teachers on radio after I first became a Christian. His clear, concise teaching was a great help to me in learning. He has a love for the written word of God, and a love for Jesus Christ. I don't think anyone can go wrong with J Vernon McGee's work. Even if you don't agree with everything he says, he is still worth listening to.
Knowledgeable Bible teachers, who love the Word as it is written literally are in short supply today. There are some, but most are Laodecean fluff, in my opinion. Men of McGee's ilk got down to the unvarnished truth and we need more like him!
Sharing the word.......2005-09-26
My husband uses J. Vernon McGee's commentaries to aid him in understanding each book of the bible. He teaches our adult sunday school class. His understanding of each verse aids in our understanding....In the beginning we were getting each book at our local christian book store. We wanted the complete set of each book. It was much to expensive to buy them that way.
We are happy with our purchase. It will aid us in sharing God's word with others. Thanks! Barbara J. Little
Wonderful addition to your library.......2005-08-04
Even though I tend to stick with authors who only support the KJV, this author is very good. I don't agree with everything he says, but overall I enjoy reading the commentaries, they have been very helpful. I bought the N.T. for me and the entire set for a friend of mine. We both are very happy with them. I recommend these to anyone who truly wants to search the scriptures and learn God's word
J. Vernon McGee reveals and exalts the Lord Jesus Christ.......2003-07-14
J. Vernon McGee is the only radio Bible teacher that I know of who consistantly pointed his listeners/students to the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ no matter which page of Scripture he was teaching from. The Lord Jesus Christ is always brought to the front and center of his teaching.
He was definitely gifted by God to teach from the Bible. He taught me how to interpret Scripture correctly by comparing Scripture with Scripture. The Spirit of God worked through J. Vernon McGee to lead me to saving faith in God our Saviour, and to turn me from the religion of Lutheranism (i.e., law and "gospel") that kept me from receiving God's GIFT of grace by faith alone, in Christ alone completely. Amen!
Dr. McGee had a saying that went something like this: "Put the cookies on the bottom shelf so that the kiddies can reach them." That was his approach to teaching the Word of God. He taught in a way that was able to be understood by every day, common people. Adults, as well as children, can become strong in their knowledge of the Word of God through the systematic teaching of Dr. McGee.
The only thing that I disagree with him on is when he would stray from the Authorized King James Version in favor of the "better"/corrupt manuscripts. Overall, his teaching is mostly taught from the Authorized Version.
When either listening or reading his program/commentary it is as if you are one-on-one with him. You will also discover that he has great sense of humor.
I have the five volume set and recommend that if you are looking for good solid Bible teaching, this is a good eternal investment.
Excellent; Easy to Understand; Exciting Journey thru Bible.......2002-04-12
I have owned and read Dr. McGee's 5 volume set of commentaries for over 15 years now and highly recommend them. Dr. McGee has a way of taking complex teachings of Scripture and simplifying them so that they are easy to grasp. He takes the "cookies and puts them on the bottom shelf so that the kiddies can get to them" as opposed to some Bible teachers who complicate the Bible's teachings with high sounding talk. One way that Dr. McGee clarifies issues is by using homely illustrations to explain his point. He never loses sight of God's redemptive theme which runs from Genesis to Revelation. He also points out how OT and NT books complement/explain, etc. each other: i.e., Genesis and Matthew; Leviticus and Hebrews; Joshua and Ephesians; Revelation and Daniel, etc. These commentaries are well the worth the dollar and time investment.

Book Description
From the cover of Essence to the stage at the Apollo, from reruns of her hit show The Parkers to her reality program Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance, Mo'Nique exults in the joys of being a large woman. Here, she explores the great love of her life—food. But this isn't food South Beach diet style. This is food with flavor, from chocolate and cream to sugar and butter and everything in between.
In Skinny Cooks Can't Be Trusted, Mo'Nique's fondest food memories (like her mama's stuffed fish that blew up in the oven but made it to the table anyway) are accompanied by cooking tips (when in doubt, taste it to make sure), food strategies (gather everything in one place so you don't tire yourself out runnin' around the kitchen), and "what to wear if you're gonna go there" (because if done right, good food can lead to good lovin'!).
Customer Reviews:
Love Mo'Nique..........2007-06-06
...love the book, and love the recipes.
But beware of the portion sizes! The spaghetti casserole recipe (which is delicious, btw) calls for 2 pounds of spaghetti and, according to the recipe, serves FOUR! Ya gotta have a BIG appetite to eat that much spaghetti!

I saw this book on VH1!.......2007-04-30
It was the Charm School episode when the girls had to cook a meal for Mo'nique and Smiley made grilled cheese sandwiches.
Moniques-Skinny Cooks Cant Be Trusted.......2007-04-03
This is a Great Cook Book filed with great little stories about Moniques friends and family and how the recipes came to be!
Good Home Cookin'.......2007-03-09
I love the recipes. I also enjoyed reading the book, which was more than just recipes. It gave you a comedic snapshot of Monique's life and family.

The i-Net+ exam was developed for the millions of job seekers who want to stand up tall and shout, "Hey! You! Companies! I know something about the Internet, so hire me for oodles of money!" And after you read the new Sybex i-Net+ Study Guide and pass the exam--because you will pass if you read this book thoroughly--you too will be able to join in the joy and revelry that comes with being one of those mysterious wizards who Understands The Net.
Okay... maybe it's not that great. (For one thing, the secret handshake we Internet wizards have gives you all sorts of nasty cramps.) But it is a laudable and well-written overview of the basic issues involved in working with the Web, which is exactly what the i-Net+ is testing for--and whether you're a long-term Net junkie checking your knowledge before the exam, or just a novice looking to position yourself for better and bigger things, this book will serve you very well.
Given the breadth of the topics that need to be covered, the guide is succinct but thorough. The writing is a cut above the usual mass of study guides, frequently taking oft-obtuse concepts like routing, copyright protection, and DHCP and putting them in simple terms that the layperson can understand. That said, the book is extremely text-heavy and uses illustrations sparsely, generally relying on long paragraphs to get the point across. If you're more visual than verbal, this probably isn't the book for you. The illustrations, primarily used to demonstrate routing and security concepts, are mostly top-notch and clarify the objectives nicely. Only one or two clunkers mar the excellent visuals.
But what about the content? The topics map closely to the i-Net+ objectives and range from the basics of internetworking and simple protocol explanations all the way up to mid-range explanations of basic Internet design concepts, i-Net troubleshooting, and security. The chapters on networking basics and site functionality are outstanding for striking that tenuous balance between too complex for the beginner and too simple to pass the test.
However, a couple of notable topics are skipped over too quickly: the programming language section passed by far too fast, with major up-and-coming topics like Active Server Pages getting a one-paragraph brushoff, and the potentially exam-critical fact that VBScript only works in Internet Explorer browsers gets only a parenthetical warning buried deeply in the text. Likewise, the explanation of HTML basics is far too brief and could have used better organization (say, a chart of the critical tags) to get beginners up to speed on simple HTML coding. In an inverse problem, the chapter on client configuration seems a trifle overworked.
There are 20 questions at the end of every chapter, with answers given immediately afterward (a change I applaud Sybex for making, since flipping all the way to the end of the book was très annoying). The questions are multiple-choice and tend to err on the shallow side, but by and large they give you decent preparation. There is an introductory assessment test and a final exam test, but for some reason Sybex chose not to let you know what a passing grade on these exams would be. (Try 75%, the passing grade on the actual i-Net+.) Tests on disk and a set of electronic flashcards provide more testing practice, although after taking all of them it's still unclear whether the i-Net+ expects you to install all patches immediately or wait until the last minute.
Despite a few minor drawbacks, this is still an excellent one-stop guide for the certification junkie. --William Steinmetz

Customer Reviews:
Two typos before the first chapter.......2006-11-30
I found two major typos before I even began the first chapter. I hope this is not indicative of the quality of the entire product, since I will be testing in just a few weeks.
Even before reading the first chapter I found errors in the assessment test. Question 14 has the answer printed under the question instead of at the end of the test like the rest of the questions. The second error is in the answers for question 27. The answer is listed as one letter but the explanation says a different answer is the best.
I have used other Sybex guides in the past with good results.
i-Net+ review.......2005-08-04
it's a good book to learn for the examen.
i have my examen tomorrow and i think i have no problem to pass it.
some things in the book aren't up to date, but it's difficult to be up to date with a book like this...
but i think it's enough to learn for the examen...
kind regards
IgNo
Excellent Resource.......2004-04-23
I read several reviews about this book prior to purchasing it and some gave it mediocre scores. My perception is that it excelled in preparing me for the exam which I passed with ease. Another excellent resource is www.mcmcse.com
Pay more to get less.......2004-03-13
I passed my certification exam about an hour ago with a score of 768/900 (655 required to pass). I'm not an IT professional; I was mostly interested in learning more about the Internet and showing it on a resume. Passing this test for me was more attributable to the study guide available at the link mentioned in glitteringolga's review (thank you very much for that by the way) and to looking up topics on my own.
This book is just not worth your time. The organization is poor, the writing is disjointed and confusing (check out the horrible descriptions of X.25 and Frame Relay for concrete examples), the errors are numerous and most definitely NOT adequately addressed in the errata on Sybex's website, and priorities of what to give the most space to are totally askew. You will be given multiple graphics and very long, step by step processes about how to click on the "File" button on Netscape Navigator, while more esoteric topics are given express treatment, and in most cases do not contain concrete examples or detailed explanations.
The review questions both in the book and on the CD are not helpful. They also are poorly worded (one question referred to adding a cache to my network as if it were a singular piece of hardware) and do not approximate much of what I saw on the exam today. If you want to take a practice exam, try the one on MCMCSE's website (same site that has the study guide). It's for the older exam version, but after taking it I would have to say it was more useful than the questions from this book and CD.
Throughout the book I noticed oodles of basic punctuation and spelling errors that a high school freshman would have been able to pick out. I guess it's not so surprising that nobody proofread the text when even the content wasn't checked for errors.
If you want to prepare for the i-Net+ exam, I would recommend using the study guide at MCMCSE, taking their practice test, and searching the web for anything listed in Comptia's exam objectives that needs clarification. I really can't recommend this book to anyone, even people who really prefer to have a textbook for reference. I am one of those people, and I was really disappointed.
4 stars for understanding Internet stuff; 2 for exam related.......2004-03-06
I wrote and past the i-Net+ (1K0-002) today (Mar-5-2004). This book contributed 40% of the content.
The content of this book is excellent for understanding Internet-related information. However, from the standpoint of the i-Net+ exam the book missed the mark.
The book helped with understanding some of the concepts. The practice questions were way way too easy.
The exam was hard... damn hard. I passed with a 83% mark.
