An aspiring Journalism student beginning his junior year at Wellington, Cory Brockway arrives in the small Western college town two weeks early. He finds himself deeply intrigued with a local legend that appears to have been distorted by virtue of outlanish assumptions and eccentric misinformation. One thing is certain, though: the nearly ghost town - Silver Spring - is haunted. Cory is witness to the bizarre ghostly aura guarding its mystifying secrets, and is soon lured into a collision course with the past. An unexplainable supremacy compels him to seek out the truth. With the help of his new best friend, Buck Paxton, he discovers some staggering evidence that could destroy the reputation of a prominent figure, and could ruin his own academic success as well.

Across the Dead Line embraces the parallel existence of two lives separated by nearly seven decades: Cory Brockway, the 1967 college student, obsessed with composing as accurate account of what really happened; long-deceased Clancy Crane, the only Silver Spring resident to remain there after its infernal demise in 1899, the only witness to a mass murder that evolved the legend.

Cory and Buck jeopardise their own safety to uncover the vaguely recorded and unrecorded history, bit by mysterious bit. What they discover produces a tangled mind game, and results could prove deadly.
